Joletta F. Nebel, 52, English teacher, counselor, enjoyed movies, caring for her pets

Joletta Fahnestock Nebel, 52, of Camp Hill, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016, from the effects of breast cancer.

She was born May 14, 1964, in Ephrata, to Joanne Eberly (wife of Bill) LeFever of Ephrata, and the late Victor Fahnestock.

Joletta graduated from Ephrata High School Class of 1982, and received her undergraduate degree in 1986 at Shippensburg University. She received a master’s degree in humanities at Shippensburg University and also earned her master’s degree in counseling from Millersville University. She worked at Cumberland Valley High School for 16 years as an English teacher and nine years as a counselor with CAIU at St. Joseph Catholic School in Mechanicsburg. Joletta enjoyed cooking, reading, movies, and the arts. She loved traveling and spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed caring for her pets.

She is survived by her husband of 30 years: Charles R. “Chuck” Nebel Jr. of Camp Hill; two sisters: Jonelle Fahnestock of Columbus, Ohio; and Jadene (and husband Dale) Henly of Lebanon; and nephews: Matt and Kurt Henly, both of Lebanon. Joletta will be dearly missed by her countless friends.

Services were held May 31 at Middle Creek Church of the Brethren, Lititz. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 400 E. Simpson St., Mechanicsburg. There will be a visitation on Wednesday at the church from 5 p.m. until the time of the services.

Donald Eitnier, 84, ‘Harry the Mailman,’ EHS grad, Korea vet, WGAL cameraman, ND fan

Donald Eitnier, 84, of Bird-in-Hand, passed from this life at 8:55 a.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2016, at the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, Scranton, after an extended illness.

Don was one of five children born to the late Ottomer and Edith (Hartranft) Eitnier. He was born in Lancaster, on Aug. 24, 1931.

After the early death of his mother, he attended Hershey Industrial School from age seven until 1946. He was a graduate of Ephrata High School Class of 1949. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served until 1953 as a radarman aboard the aircraft carrier USS Phillippine Sea CV-47.

He was a Korean War Veteran. After returning from the Navy he worked as a clothing salesman in Ephrata and later as a cameraman for WGAL. He entered into the postal service in 1956 as a letter carrier until retiring in 1986. During his postal career he served as president of the NALC Union for several years, and later as an EI facilitator for the employees his last two years of his postal career. His letter carrier career gained him the love, respect, and admiration of an immeasurable number of children, their families, and even dogs along his mail route. He was known as “Harry the Mailman” and “Donald Duck” to many of them.

He was a 65-year member of the Lancaster NALC Branch No. 273 Postal Union, a 32-degree member of the Lamberton Lodge No. 476, Lancaster, and a life member of the Millersville VFW, and the Blinded Veterans Association. He loved seeing family and friends, car ventures with his wife Judi, reading, horses, Notre Dame Football, and cookies.

He is survived by his loving wife: Judith of nearly 32 years, of Bird-in-Hand; sons: Kurt N. Eitnier (Patti Bachman) of Lancaster; Kent N. Eitnier of Plainfield; Keven N. Eitnier (Anne Renaut) of Jacksonville, N.C.; his extended family: a son: J. Andrew Jobst (Bridget Sheron) of Ypsilanti, Mich.; daughters: Rosemary K. Puzey (Russ) of Fairmount, Ill.; Amanda B. Repp (Doug) of Casey, Iill.; sisters: Shirley Keiffer (Jay) of Akron; Ginny Lou Leicy (Glen) of Lancaster; Jean Marie Abram (Jim) of Ephrata; 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his dog: Magic.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; Ottomer, Edith, and Virginia Eitnier; a sister: Faye Pickell; and a brother: Larry B. Eitnier.

Family and friends are invited to attend a military graveside service at Fort Indiantown Gap on Friday, June 3, at 2 p.m. A procession to the cemetery will leave the Stradling Funeral Home, 30 N. Ninth Street, Akron, promptly, at 12:30 p.m.

Margaret M. Showalter, 85, Denver secretary, civic volunteer, Denver Fair advocate

Margaret M. “Peggy” Showalter, 85, of Reinholds, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at Ephrata Manor.

She was born in Lower Heidelburg Township to the late Walter and Catharine (Long) Helm, and was the wife of E. Luke Showalter, with whom she shared more than 60 years of marriage.

Peggy graduated from Robesonia High School and then went on to McCann’s School of Business. She formerly worked for Farr’s Nursery and then was the secretary for Denver Borough for 28 years. She enjoyed volunteering and received numerous awards for her work through various civic organizations.

In addition to her job, she was a homemaker and raised three children. She loved spending time with family and friends, and enjoyed baking, canning, crocheting, and gardening.

In addition to her husband, Peggy is survived by three children: Kirk Showalter of Reinholds, Neal Showalter of Reinholds, and Jill Showalter of Reamstown; a brother: Gerald, husband of Sue Helm, of Stouchsburg; and a sister: Delores, wife of Harold Stieff, of Robesonia; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters: Shirley Wartzenluft and Ruth Shepler.

A viewing will be held Thursday, June 2, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut St., Denver. An additional viewing will be held Friday, June 3, from 9 to 10 a.m., at the Mellinger’s Lutheran Church, 80 Gockley Road, Stevens. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m., with Rev. Timothy L. Craven officiating. Interment will take place in the Pleasant View Cemetery.

Harlan M. Martin, 78, farmer, member of Lime Rock Mennonite Church, father of nine

Harlan M. Martin, 78 of Lititz, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at home, after a lengthy illness.

He was born in West Earl Township to the late H. Landis and Anna (Martin) Martin. He is survived by his wife, Emma (Nolt) Martin.

Harlan was a member of the Lime Rock Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference. He was a farmer for 52 years. He also had worked at a local feed mill.

Surviving are nine children: Wilma J., married to Lamar G. Lehman, of Bernville; Leland N., married to Ann M. Zimmerman, of Lititz; Sharon E., married to J. Wilmer Horst, of Landisburg; Norene N., married to Nelson R. Burkholder, of Peach Bottom: Fern J., married to Ronald L. Zimmerman, of Ephrata; Venetia N., married to Earl E. Horst, of Newmanstown; Doris A., married to Glen H. Weaver, of Newmanstown; Delores N., married to N. Arlyn Hurst, of Lititz; Leonard N. married to Marian L. Frey, of Lititz; 61 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 10 siblings: Vera, wife of John Nolt, Lititz; Edna, wife of Amos Martin, Stevens; Earl, husband of Barbara (Weaver) Martin, Lebanon; Wilmer, husband of Elaine (Rohrer) Martin, Lititz; Mariam Martin, Denver; Raymond, husband of Mabel (Rutt) Martin, Lititz; Laverne, wife of John Fox, Denver; Norma Martin, Willow Street; Anna Mae, wife of Elvin Hoover, Reinholds; Erla, wife of Merle Martin, Lititz; and a sister-in-law: Eve Jane (Stauffer) Martin, Newmanstown.

He was preceded in death by three grandchildren; and two brothers: John Elam Martin and Elvin M. Martin.

Services were held June 3 at Lime Rock Mennonite Church, Lititz, with Bishop Melvin Martin, and ministers Ray Martin, Elam Ray Martin, and Henry Horning officiating. Interment was in the adjoining church cemetery. Kindly omit flowers.

Nancy Ann King, 50, State Farm Insurance administrative assistant for Chris Skundrich

Nancy Ann King, 50, of Bowmansville, died unexpectedly on Friday, May 27, 2016, at Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital.

Born in Richmond, Va., she was the daughter of Donald and Mary (Litzinger) Michaels. She was married 28 years this past Oct. 3 to Theodore Robert “Rob” King.

She was employed as a State Farm Insurance administrative assistant for Chris Skundrich, Ephrata. She was a member of St. John’s Center United Church of Christ. She enjoyed many things including her children’s sporting events, photography, traveling, but most of all being with her family.

Surviving in addition to her husband are four children: Amber R. of West Chester; Cecelia R. of Arlington, Va.; T. Robbie and Calvin M., both of Bowmansville; and a brother: Clete, spouse of Shelly Michaels.

Services were held June 4 at St. John’s Center UCC, East Earl, with Bradley Haws officiating.

Diana L. Kaumeheiwa, 64, Ephrata Midget Football booster club founding member, avid cross-stitcher

Diana L. Kaumeheiwa, 64, formerly of Ephrata, passed away surrounded by family and loved ones on May 29, 2016, at her residence in Waianae, Hawaii.

She was born to the late Walter and Josephine Smith on Feb. 26, 1952 in Elm.

She was one of the original founding members of the Ephrata Midget Football booster club. She spent countless hours asking for gifts and donations from community businesses to raffle at fundraising events for the program.

She enjoyed cross-stitching blankets and pillows for newborns of friends and family. Many of those gifts are still cherished by the children who received them. Diana worked for many years for sewing factories in the local area. Diana enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends. She baked and cooked every dish with love in her hands so that every day could be enjoyed.

Diana loved her family deeply. Her whole world revolved around her children and grandchildren. She would be excited at Christmas time and made sure everyone received a gift. She rarely forgot to send a card or gift on birthdays

She will be forever loved by her husband: Kalani Kaumeheiwa; her daughter: Cherie L. Rivera (Jose Rivera Sr.); her sons: Duane K. Shelton, Kamaka Kaumeheiwa, and Kalei Kaumeheiwa; grandchildren: Tylere Alvarado, Jose Rivera Jr., Manuel Rivera, and Phoenix Shelton; and sisters: Betty Barry and Eileen Landis.

Family will be receiving guests at Paul L. Gravenor Home for Funerals in Ephrata, on Saturday, June 11, from 10 to 11 a.m. Services will commence at 11 a.m. and interment will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery after the service. The family will host a gathering of food and refreshments at the home of her daughter, Cherie Rivera.

Shelby Jean Eppinette, 72, worked at Pancake Farm, animal lover, enjoyed spending time at the shore

Shelby Jean Eppinette, 72, of Myerstown, passed Monday, May 30, 2016, at home.

Shelby was a lifelong resident of the area and resided for some years in Louisiana. She was born in Ephrata to the late Donald and Emily (Moore) Feltenberger. She was the long-time companion of Harold R. Leed.

Together they enjoyed horseback riding, watching NASCAR, and attending races. Shelby loved the Delaware shore areas of Bethany and Rehoboth. She and Harold cared affectionately for “Shelby’s Zoo” of many cats, dogs, and a parrot named Junior. Shelby was an enthusiastic animal lover and activist and a member of the Mountain Trail Riders Club.

Shelby formerly worked as a machine operator for the Ephrata Shoe Co., at the WIC office in Ephrata, and later at the Pancake Farm, as well as for other employers in her long, hard-working history.

Shelby is survived by her son: Joe Moore, husband of Lisa-Kay (Emfinger), of Louisiana; and her daughter: Lori Lorah-Sauder (Lambert), wife of David Sauder, of Denver. She adored her three grandchildren: Austen and Alexandra Lambert, and Justin Spillers. She is survived by two sisters: LeReta (Feltenberger), wife of Charles Senft; Janice, wife of Ronnie Martin; and a brother: Donald Feltenberger Jr., husband of Sharon. She is also Grandma to Harold’s immediate family: his daughter: Nicole Kalbach; grandchildren: Tiffany Laster (Kalbach) and Cory Kalbach (deceased); as well as three great-grandchildren, all of Texas.

She was preceded in death by her devoted sister: Coletta, wife of Jerry Eppinette. Shelby is now gloriously joined with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; her sister Coletta; her mother: Emily; her favorite aunt: Dot; and the many family members she has missed over the years.

A life celebration was held June 6 at Ephrata Church of the Brethren, followed by a gathering at her daughter’s home in Denver.

Sharlene Y. Dippner, 59, died June 5, 2016, in Ephrata Community Hospital.

Born in Lancaster, she was a daughter of the late Earl E. and Cora E. (Berger) Dippner.

Sharlene was a Lampeter-Strasburg High School graduate and a member of Muddy Creek Lutheran Church, Denver. She worked for CBI Inc., loved her cats, puzzles, games and TV.

Surviving is a brother: Leroy D. Berger, Stevens.

A viewing will be held Thursday, June 9, from 9 to 10 a.m. from Good Funeral Home, Reamstown. The service is at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Nancy L. Schwabe-Fry officiating. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. in Conestoga Memorial Park, 95 Second Lock Road, Lancaster; meet at cemetery entrance before 1 p.m.

Virginia R. Bingner, 90, practical nurse, homemaker, mother of three

Virginia R. Bingner, 90, formerly of Denver, passed away Friday, June 3, 2016, at Ephrata Manor.

She was born in Lewisburg, Ky., to the late John Robert and Cillar Jane (Moore) Rice, and was the wife of the late Eugene G. Bingner, who died in 2003.

Virginia was a 1949 graduate of Orangeburg High School in Orangeburg, Ky. She was a homemaker and formerly worked as a practical nurse for 20 years.

Virginia is survived by a son: Sheridan R. Bingner of Lancaster; two daughters: Roxanne B. Swartz of Orwell, Ohio; and Dixie L. Kiehl of Denver; two grandchildren: Crystal Glassburner and Kyle Kiehl; and a great-grandchild: Sullivan Glassburner.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter: Tanya Swartz; and she was the last of nine siblings.

Services and interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Mary J. Anderson, 94, WWII vet, Penn Manor school nurse, enjoyed going to the beach

Mary J. Anderson, 94, of Ephrata, formerly of Lancaster, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at Ephrata Community Hospital.

She was born in Somerville, Mass., the daughter of the late Bernard A. and Lucy T. (Terrell) Maguire. Her husband, Robert C. Anderson, died in 1973.

Mary served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during World War II. She worked as a school nurse for the Penn Manor School District. She enjoyed playing cards, trips to the beach, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are her daughter-in-law: Lucinda L. Anderson; grandchildren: Brian, married to Valya Anderson; Heather, married to Paul Marx; Michael Anderson; and Michelle Anderson; great-grandchildren: Ethan, Abby, Galya, and Dasha; and nephews: John, married to Joanne Hurley; and Donald married to Ann Hurley.

Mary was preceded in death by her sons: R. David Anderson and Michael B. Anderson.

Services and burial will be private in Conestoga Memorial Park.

Wayne G. Martin, 92, ran Martin’s Meats and Groceries, Store at Your Door, furniture crafter

Wayne G. Martin, 92, of Fairmount Homes, Ephrata, went to meet his Lord May 31, 2016.

He was formerly of East Earl, and he was the much-loved husband of Mary Irene (Sensenig) Martin, to whom he was married for 70 years. He was born in the Bowmansville area, and was the son of the late Peter S. and Lizzie (Gehman) Martin.

He will be missed by his wife and children: Ruth Ann and her husband David Longacre of Orrstown; Jane and her husband Clifford Hoover of Westbrook, Maine; Rhoda and her husband Herbert Mast of Morgantown: Janet and her husband David Mast of Elverson: Wayne and his wife Linda (Wise) Martin of East Earl; Richard and his wife Patti (Zeimer) Martin of Denver. He was a loving grandfather to 18 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

Wayne was preceded in death by a grandson: Rodney Mast; and six siblings: Clyde, Edwin, Joseph, and Charles Martin; Ruth Sensenig; and Anna and Irene Martin.

Wayne, along with his wife, Mary, ran Martin’s Meats and Groceries in Churchtown. He was the owner of Store at Your Door, a grocery delivery service in the Churchtown/Morgantown area. Wayne enjoyed woodworking, spent years in cabinetry work, and his home is filled with fine furniture he crafted. He was a volunteer at Ephrata Hospital and at the New Holland Re-Uzit Shop. Wayne was a member of Weaverland Mennonite Church.

Services were held June 5 at Weaverland Mennonite Church, East Earl.

Howard C. Walker, 86, Korea vet, owner of first V & S Sandwich shop, avid fisherman

Howard C. Walker, 86, of Akron, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at the Pottstown Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Reading to the late Howard and Martha (Krall) Walker.

Howard owned and operated the first V & S Sandwich shop in downtown Ephrata. He then worked as a butcher for Bob’s Market for many years. After retirement, he worked part time at the Ephrata Wawa. Howard was an avid fisherman, hunter and bowler, who loved the beach at Ocean City, Md. Howard served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the VFW Post No. 38 in Reading.

Howard is survived by two sons: Randy, husband of Lisa Walker, of Ephrata; Brad Anthony, husband of Lucinda Walker, of Ephrata; a daughter: Cindy, wife of Linford Zimmerman, of Ephrata; four grandchildren: Chelsea, Ryan, and Andrea Zimmerman; and Calvin Walker.

A graveside service was held June 6 at Pleasant View Cemetery, Sinking Spring, with Pastor Rob Eshelman officiating. Military honors were accorded by the Honor Guard.

Eileen Burkey, Charles Laundry retiree, cat lover, enjoyed going to Green Dragon

Eileen Burkey, of Denver, passed away at her residence on Monday, June 6, 2016.

Born in Landisville, she was the daughter of the late Paul F. and Miriam Summy Drescher. She was married to the late Harry Burkey.

Eileen had worked for 30 years at Charles Laundry until her retirement in 2010. She had also cleaned at many nursing home facilities in years past.

She loved going to yard sales, going out to eat, word search puzzles, watching movies, reading her paper daily, and going to Green Dragon and Central Market. She loved her cats: Olivia, her best friend for the past 17 years; fat cat, Tabby; and her grand-dog, Stella. She was very giving to the Lancaster ORCA and Humane League. Her greatest accomplishment was her family and she enjoyed spending time with them.

Eileen is survived by her sons: David, married to Kelly Burkey, of Enola; and James, married to Esther Burkey, with whom she lived in Denver; her six grandchildren: David, Kyle, Brian, Jim, Michelle, and Kevin Jr.; two great-grandchildren: Ethan and Kevin III; her brother: Harold, married to Judy Drescher, of New Holland; and her sisters: Gladys Casakoff of Kew Gardens, N.Y.; and Ruth Grant of Lititz.

She was preceded in death by her son: Kevin; her granddaughter: Christine Garman; her great-grand-daughter: Hannah Garman; and her brother: Kenneth Drescher.

Joseph R. Paparo Jr., 89, WWII vet, RCA retiree, enjoyed traveling, gardening, and bowling

Joseph R. “Joe” Paparo Jr., 89, of Ephrata Manor Retirement Community, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at Lancaster General Hospital.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Joseph Sr. and Josephine Spadafore Paparo. Formerly of Lancaster, Joe shared 61 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Anna LaRosa Paparo.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a tool-and-die maker and machinist for 36 years at RCA in Lancaster. Joe was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lancaster and the Lancaster VFW. As a result of Joe’s passion for studying maps and planning road trips, he and Anna put thousands of miles on their car traveling all over the country and making frequent trips to the beach, which was his favorite place to visit.

Joe enjoyed gardening and spent many hours each summer growing vegetables of all kinds. An avid bowler, he was in numerous bowling leagues and in recent years had weekly dates at Rocky Springs with his daughter, Deb. He looked forward to hearing about his son’s family in Texas and talking with them on the phone. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he will be greatly missed by his family, who were his pride and joy in life.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Anna, is a son: Anthony, husband of Sharon Paparo, of Wimberly, Texas; a daughter: Deborah Paparo of Lancaster; three grandchildren: Alicia, John, and Elizabeth; and a sister: Maryann Snyder of Millersville.

He is preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

Services were held June 13 at Buch-Heisey Funeral Home, Lititz. Interment was in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery, Lancaster.

Harold D. Kopp, 59, of Denver, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2016, at Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital.

He was born in Ephrata to Donald E. and Patricia A. (Hamaker) Kopp, and was the husband of Geraldine L. (VanGorden) Kopp.

Harold was a graduate of Ephrata High School, Class of 1975. He worked as a self-employed mason, and enjoyed antiquing, collecting antique mason jars and bottles, and fishing.

In addition to his parents, Harold is survived by three children: Jeremy, husband of Jen Bomberger; Jessie Kopp; and Nicole, wife of Mark Temons; a step-son: Ryan, husband of Laura O’Dell; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three brothers: Brian, husband of Pamela Kopp; Ken, husband of Gretchen Kopp; and James Kopp.

He was preceded in death by a sister: Sherri A. Kopp.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Pauline Nissly Emsing, 97, of York, formerly of Denver, passed away Monday, June 6, 2016, at Senior Care on Market Street, formerly Autumn House East, in York.

She was born in Denver to the late Ralph and Edna (Meckley) Nissly, and was the wife of Donald Emsing, who died in 2003.

Pauline was a graduate of Denver High School. In the earlier years, Pauline worked as a packer for F & M Hat Co., of Denver, and was also a homemaker. She was a member of the Faith United Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denver. She enjoyed playing cards, knitting, and was an avid Phillies fan.

Pauline is survived by a son: James, husband of Joan (Binner) Emsing, of York; two granddaughters: Shari Smith of West Chester, and Julie Mann of Steelstown; and two great-granddaughters: Katelyn and Brittany Smith.

She was preceded in death by a sister: Louise Nissly.

Services were held June 10 at Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, Denver, with Pastor Joseph Veres officiating. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery.

Francine M. Dounelis, 71, optician, active at Evangel Assembly of God, Bible study leader

Francine M. Dounelis, 71, Ephrata, died June 9, 2016, in Lancaster General Hospital.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., a daughter of the late Frank and Marie (Ragusa) Pepe, she was the wife of Philip H. Dounelis for 52 years.

An active member of Evangel Assembly of God, Ephrata, she was the church hospitality and food coordinator, and sang in the choir. Francine loved cooking, crocheting and cherished her family.

Formerly of Long Island, she was a 1961 Hicksville High School graduate, ran ministries, and Bible study from her home, and worked as an optician with Davis Optical.

Also surviving are sons: Philip H. (Gina LaBarca) Dounelis Jr., Scottsdale, Ariz.; Christopher P. Dounelis, Deer Park, N.Y.; and Niko J. (Erin Staples) Dounelis, Coram, N.Y.; and grandchildren: Christian, Hannah, Jonathan, Caden, and Colten.

Siblings Marian Weyde and Richard Pepe predeceased her.

Viewings will be Friday, June 17, from 6 to 8 p.m., and Saturday, June 18, from 1 to 2 p.m., with Pastor Kevin Sylvester officiating at the funeral starting at 2 p.m.; all from Good Funeral Home, Reamstown. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery Annex, Denver.

Rev. Adam B. Esbenshade, 95, dairy farmer, minister at New Life Fellowship, loved antique cars

Rev. Adam B. Esbenshade, 95, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, June 6, 2016, at Fairmount Retirement Homes, Ephrata, where he has been a resident since 2010.

Born April 30, 1921, in New Holland, he was the son of the late Ferree F. and Lizzie (Weaver) Esbenshade. On Nov. 15, 1940, Adam married his surviving wife, Alta Burkhart Esbenshade, with whom he was blessed to share 75 years of marriage.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one brother: Ferree Esbenshade Jr.; his children: Geraldine, wife of Ivan Martin, Sarasota, Fla.; Wilmer, husband of Janice (Sauder), New Holland; and Linda, wife of D. Ray Geissinger, Mifflintown; grandchildren: Rodney Martin (Angie), Lititz; Wendell Esbenshade (Lorelei); Wade Esbenshade (Jenn), both of New Holland; Denise Oberholtzer (Tom), Penn Laird, Va.; Dan Geissinger (Joni), Mifflintown; Judy Mummau (Chris), East Waterford; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Adam was preceded in death by two sisters: Grace Reiff and Edith Sensenig.

Adam began his ministry in Atmore, Ala., serving with the We Care Prison Ministry. Later he served under Eastern Mennonite Missions in Belize. He attended Kitchener Bible Institute, Kitchener, Ont.; and served as a church planter and pastor in the Lancaster Mennonite Conference at the Bible Fellowship Center, New Haven, Conn.; Lebanon Christian Fellowship, Lebanon; and New Life Fellowship, Ephrata. In addition, he was interim pastor at Ashton Mennonite Church, Sarasota, Fla.; and Delaware Mennonite Church, Thompsontown; and assistant pastor at Cedar Lane Chapel, East Earl.

He was a member of New Life Fellowship, Ephrata; The Retired Minister’s Association; the Antique Classic Car Club; and a charter member of the Buccaneer Hunting Camp.

Before going into full-time ministry, Adam was a dairy farmer at New Holland. He also was a salesman at L.J. Denlinger, Paradise; and factory representative for Heritage Custom Kitchens, New Holland. Adam’s enjoyment came from golfing, hunting, fishing, antique cars, and volunteering at the Re-Uzit Shop of New Holland. But, his greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family.

Services were held June 13 at New Life Fellowship, Ephrata, with Pastors Kevin Horning and Rodney Martin officiating. Burial will be private.

Elva L. Brubaker, 97, of Akron, formerly of Denver, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital.

She was born in Denver to the late Raymond K. and Alice (Mellinger) Leed, and was the wife of the late Russell Brubaker, who died in 1993.

She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Denver, and in her working years Elva worked as a shoemaker for AN Wolf Shoes.

Elva is survived by several nieces, nephews, great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five siblings: Leroy Leed, Irene Rutt, Warren Leed, Beulah Burkholder, and Donald Leed.

Services were held June 9 at Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, Denver, with Chaplain Karen Sweimler officiating. Interment took place in the Fairview Cemetery, Annex.
