Major Joseph Anthony Accardo Jr., U.S. Air Force (Ret.) 58, of Ephrata, passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully, in his sleep Thursday, Dec. 24, 2015.

Joe was raised by Joseph Accardo Sr., and the late Antoinette (Rangatore) Accardo in Niagara Falls, N.Y.; and grew up among a large and caring family.

He is survived by his brother: Frank Accardo, husband to Donna Accardo, Chatsworth, Calif.; and is preceded in death by his brother, Jon Accardo.

Joe was an F-15 fighter pilot, and it was his skill and faith in God that carried him through 20 years of service.

Joe was married to Suzanne (Gettle) Accardo, and they had 32 years of unparalleled love that they were able to share with one another and their children.

Together, they raised two boys, who in turn will carry the love their father showed their mother into their marriages: Joseph A. Accardo III, husband of Laurelin Accardo, of Denver; and Christopher W. Accardo, fiancé of Devan Johnson, of Ithaca, N.Y.

Many knew Joe through his work with Sandvik, and he was also known for his passion and skill as a pilot, golfer, boater, and orator; but he is most remembered for the love and happiness he shared with his family.

A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, Dec. 29, at Foxchase Golf Club, Stevens, from 6 to 9 p.m.. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by a brief service at 7 p.m., officiated by Pastor Brad Haws. Refreshments will be served following the service.
