Richard A. Hamilton, 94, WWII vet, active at Westminster Presbyterian Church, G.E. engineer

Richard A. Hamilton, 94, of Akron, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at Keystone Villa in Ephrata.

He was born in Pyongyang, Korea, to his missionary parents, the late Floyd and Ruth (Bonebreak) Hamilton; and was the husband of Marjorie (Dodds) Hamilton, with whom he shared 72 years of marriage.

He was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Lancaster. He enjoyed golfing, skiing, and working on his home in the Poconos. Richard was a U.S. Navy Veteran, having served during World War II. He was a 1941 graduate of Westmount Academy, and a 1948 graduate of West Virginia University, having earned BSEE and BS degrees. He worked as an electrical engineer for General Electric, and was a consulting engineer for the Electro Pyrolysis Company.

In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by two daughters: Alison, wife of Albert Carzola; and Christine, wife of Robert Lutz; two sons: Stephen Hamilton, husband of Janet; and Thomas Hamilton, husband of Cheryl; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, Jan. 6, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2151 Oregon Pike, Lancaster. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., with Dr. John S. Light officiating. Interment will take place in the Westminster Presbyterian Church Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard.

Edith Y. Weinhold, 95, Denver, longest St. Paul’s member, RCA worker, made great pies, Phils Fan

Edith Y. Weinhold, 95, of Denver, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017 at her home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde E. Weinhold in 1998. Born in Fivepointville, she was the daughter of the late Allan and Frances (Lorah) Youndt.

She was a homemaker and the oldest and longest member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. Early in her life, she worked at Armstrong and RCA.

Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her circle of friends and family. She was a loving wife who took care of her husband during his battle with Alzheimer’s. She was a wonderful cook and made many pies for family, church functions, and for the Fivepointville Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a Phillies fan.

Surviving are three children: Curtis, married to Penny (Lutz) Weinhold, Coudersport; Karen, married to Kenneth Smith, Leesport; Terry, married to Betty (Braley) Weinhold, Shillington; three grandsons: Keith, married to Rosanel Weinhold; B. Eric Weinhold, fiancé of Tamra Milner; and Mark A. Weinhold; three step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Mae Henly, Honey Brook; Fern Oberholtzer, Wellsboro; and Grace Hirneisen, Sinking Spring.

She was preceded in death by nine brothers: Luke, Clarence, Robert, Lester, Ray, Rev. Mark, Jim, Bill, and Richard.

Services were Jan. 2 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Bowmansville with Rev. Dr. Robert B. Peiffer and Rev. Robert Witmyer officiating. Interment was in Bowmansville Union Cemetery.

Brenda L. Franklin, 55, formerly of Ephrata, was medic in National Guard 103rd Battalion

Brenda L. Franklin, 55, formerly of Ephrata, passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 24, 2017 at her home in Lancaster.

She was the daughter of the late Richard Franklin and Shirley Mellinger.

She was a medic in the National Guard 103rd Battalion.

In addition to her parents, Brenda is survived by her son: Charles Adams of Lancaster; and her siblings: Ben Franklin of Ephrata; Lisa Clark of New York; Mike Franklin of Ephrata; Bard Sauder of Ephrata; Dave Franklin of Ephrata; and Carol Franklin of Lancaster.

A celebration of life was held at Crossroads Mennonite Church, Lancaster, on Dec. 30.

Mary H. Esch, 90, had Green Dragon lemonade stand, enjoyed baking, vitamin sales

Mary H. Esch, 90, of Ephrata, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017, at her residence.

She was born in Ephrata to the late Noah N., who was the founder of Green Dragon and Martha G. (Horst) Burkholder; and was the wife of the late Paul J. Esch, Sr. who passed away in 2006.

Mary was a member of New Life Fellowship, Ephrata. During her working years, she worked at East End Steak Shop, Goodwill Industries, and she had a lemonade stand at Green Dragon. She enjoyed vitamin sales, knitting, crocheting, quilting, coloring, baking, especially donuts, cakes and cookies. Mary also enjoyed going to Landis Homes Adult Day services the last few years.

She is survived by her four children: Paul Esch, Jr. of Villa Rica, Ga.; Grace, wife of Ned L. Martin of Ephrata; Silas, husband of Suthida D. Esch of Kissimmee, Fla.; and Martha, wife of Dennis Strawbridge of Leola; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a sister: Lena Nolt of Ephrata.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter: Ruth Ann Bauman; and a son: John Esch.

Services were held Dec. 29 at New Life Fellowship, Ephrata, with Pastor Kevin Horning officiating. Interment took place in the Fairview Cemetery.

Kathy E. Schlegel, 71, Cocalico grad, worked at Loomis Co., AWC president, cherished family

Kathy E. Schlegel, 71, of Lebanon, formerly of Reinholds, died Jan. 1, 2018, at Hershey Medical Center.

Born in West Reading, a daughter of Leonore L. (Kegerise) Fitterling, New Holland, and the late Richard S. Fitterling, she was married to Gary L. Schlegel for 50 years.

A 1964 Cocalico High School graduate, she received her associate accounting degree from Goldey-Beacom College and worked as treasurer/office administrator with The Loomis Company, Wyomissing, for 33 years. Kathy was a member and deacon of Quentin United Church of Christ, past president of Adamstown Woman’s Club, enjoyed golf, gardening, sewing and cherished her family.

Also surviving is her son: Steven Schlegel, Palmyra; grandchildren: Aidan, Riley, and Callie; and her brother: Chris I., married to Linda Fitterling, Stevens.

A memorial celebration of Kathy’s life will be held Wednesday, Jan. 10, at 7 p.m., from Quentin U.C.C., 11 E. Main St., Quentin, with The Rev. Julia Beall officiating. A visitation will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the church. Inurnment will be private.

R. Romayne Carpenter, 83, Hemmerich, Wendy’s worker, active at her church, gospel concert groupie

R. Romayne Carpenter, 83, Zerbe Sisters Nursing Center, Narvon, formerly of Reamstown and Ephrata, died Jan. 1, 2018, in Ephrata Community Hospital.

Born in Reamstown, she was the daughter of the late Harold E. and Florence (Marks) Witmer. Her first husband, Leon R. Buffenmyer, died April 13, 1987; and second husband, Dale E. Carpenter, died July 2, 2010.

Romayne worked at Wendy’s, Ephrata, and Hemmerich Industries, Denver. She was a member of Reamstown Church of God, where she served as a greeter, and on the prayer chain. She enjoyed reading, visiting, shopping, traveling, doll collecting, and was a gospel concert groupie.

Surviving are her children: Karan M. (Dwight N.) Klassen, Denver; Robert Lee (Harriet Payne) Buffenmyer, Lititz; and Rodney L. Buffenmyer, Ephrata; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A son, Ray E. Buffenmyer; and brother, Richard Fry, predeceased her.

Funeral services were held Jan. 6 at Reamstown Church of God, Stevens, with The Rev. Joel R. Hainley officiating. Private burial was in Salem Union Cemetery, Reamstown.

Esther M. Martin, 80, EHS grad, active at Weaverland Mennonite, enjoyed monologuing

Esther M. Martin, 80, of New Holland, formerly of Honey Brook, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, Jan. 1, 2018, at Garden Spot Village.

Born in Ephrata, she was a daughter of the late Aaron and Emma (Martin) Sensenig. She was married 60 years on Feb. 23 to Wilmer E. Martin.

Esther was a 1955 Ephrata High School graduate and a member of Weaverland Mennonite Church where she served many years as a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the Ladies Sunday School class and the Church Sewing Circle. She also enjoyed presenting monologues, reading, and doing crossword puzzles.

Surviving in addition to her husband are four children: Nelson R., married to Carol (Leaman) Martin of Honey Brook; Michael J., married to Cheryl (Gingrich) Martin of New Holland; Lyndell J., married to Donald R. Good of Ephrata; and Steven D. and Anna Mary (Esh) Martin of New Holland; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother: Earl M., married to Dorothy (Burkholder) Sensenig of Akron; and a sister: Anna Mary, wife of the late Christian Sauder of Landis Homes, Lititz.

Funeral services were held Jan. 5 at Weaverland Anabaptist Faith Community, 210 East Earl with Brian Martin, Nevin Hurst, and C. Kenneth Martin officiating. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery.

Ronald R. Long, 64, attended Ephrata Reformed Presbyterian, W. W. Moyer worker

Ronald R. Long, 64, of Ephrata, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017, at home.

Ronald was born in Talmage to Oliver A. Long and Bettie (Leisey) Long on Sept. 2, 1953.

He went to school at Ephrata High School. Ron worked as a warehouseman for W. W. Moyer for 24 years. He was a regular attendee of Ephrata Reformed Presbyterian Church.

Preceding Ronald in death, in addition to his parents, are two brothers: Terry L. Long and Larry D. Long.

Surviving Ronald are two brothers: Barry Long, husband of Rita (Ludwig) Long of Ephrata; and Donald L. Long, husband of Michele (Livingood) Long of Ephrata. Also surviving are a number of nephews and nieces.

Services were held Jan. 4 at Paul L. Gravenor Home for Funerals, Ephrata. Interment followed at Memory Gardens, East Cocalico Township.

Alta S. Brubaker, 91, of Mohnton, died Dec. 31 at her home after a brief illness. Born in East Earl Township, she was a homemaker and a member of the Bowmansville Mennonite Church, Groffdale Conference. A son, Raymond, married to Emma (Martin) Brubaker, lives in Denver. Sons, Melvin, Brubaker, and Warren, married to Mary (Shirk) Brubaker, live in East Earl. A sister, Sarah, married to Elam Nolt, and brother, Allen, married to Ada (Martin) Zimmerman, also reside in East Earl.

Marvin J. Buchmoyer, 81, of East Petersburg, passed away Jan. 5 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was a technical representative for the Xerox Corporation for 37 years before his retirement. Marvin was a member of Reformation Lutheran Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, having served during the Korean Conflict. A member of the Landisville Lions Club, he enjoyed spending time with his family. His daughter, Brenda Goldsborough, lives in Ephrata.

M. Alice Diller, 98, of Lancaster passed away peacefully on Jan. 1. Alice graduated from the Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing in 1941. She pursued her nursing career at LGH working on the med-surg and maternity wards retiring in 1991. She was the best mincemeat and graham cracker pie baker there ever was. She was a member of Church of the Apostles UCC for over 70 years. A son, Robert (Suzanne) Diller, lives in Mount Joy. Her son, David Diller, lives in Ephrata.

Dwain L. Faucett, 78, of Lancaster, passed away Jan. 1 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. Dwain retired from RCA after 40 years of service. He had an infectious sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. Even in his last days, he continued to joke with his doctors and nurses at hospice. Dwain enjoyed golfing and gardening, sharing his vegetables with many. A stepson, William P. Norton, husband of Beth, lives in Ephrata.

Rollie Roy Gordon II, 39, of Wernersville, passed away Dec. 29 at Reading Hospital Medical Center. Rollie enjoyed hunting and fishing. He worked doing landscaping and hardscaping for Sal’s Landscaping of Reinholds. His mother and step-father, Deb and Rodger Seiler, reside in Denver.

Robert L. “Bob” Houck, 74, of Manheim, and formerly of Blue Ball, died peacefully Dec. 30 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. He retired from Alcoa Incorporated, Lebanon. Bob served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was of the Christian faith and a lifetime member of the Manheim Historical Society and the Elstonville Sportsmen’s Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodcarving, playing pinochle, and attending public auctions. A brother, Terry Houck, lives in Ephrata.

Esther F. Klopp, 67, of Brownstown, companion of Rich Wink, passed away Jan. 5 at home. Arrangements by Roseboro Stradling Funeral & Cremation Services, Denver.

Doris J. Kolp-Ensminger, 79, went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 30 at Hospice Center in Mount Joy. She retired from Wintron in Runville and was of the Lutheran faith. She loved yard sales, casinos, four wheeling, lottery tickets, and the beach, but most of all spending time with her loving family and friends. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be greatly missed. Her daughter, Terri J. Wissler, wife of Howard, lives in Ephrata. A son, Keith L. Kolp, husband of Julie, lives in Ephrata.

Jay P. “Pete” Lockard Sr., 88, of Elizabethtown, died unexpectedly at his residence on Jan. 1. Jay retired as a self-employed computer consultant. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Neffsville where he served as church treasurer and usher. He was a member of the Boys Scouts of America for over 60 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War having served with the Battery C 899th AAA AW Battalion, 28th Infantry Division. A son, Jay P. Jr., husband of Linda Dowlin Lockard, resides in Ephrata.

Denise M. McKillips, 66, of Gap, passed away at the Ephrata Hospital on Jan. 5. She had worked for Lukens Steel Company of Coatesville and was a Longaberger Basket consultant. She enjoyed trips to the family home in Slate Run, spending time at the shore, watching birds, and was an avid Yahtzee player. Most of all she loved spending time with her granddaughter. Her daughter, Kelly Anne, wife of Alan Armstrong, and granddaughter, Skyler Joy Armstrong, reside in Ephrata.

Gary W. Schwetz, 61, formerly of New Holland, died Jan. 5 at Maple Farm Nursing Center in Akron. Gary was last employed as a director of programs for The Delaware Center for Horticulture (DCH) in Wilmington, Del. He was a member of Evangelical United Methodist Church, New Holland. Gary had a passion for the outdoors, especially horticulture, and an encyclopedic knowledge of plants, which he successfully leveraged in his work at The DCH.

Arlene K. Snader, 81, of Lititz, died peacefully Jan. 5. Arlene was a charter member of Grace Church, Lititz, and many Sunday mornings you could find her sitting in the cafe enjoying visiting with friends. She was an avid reader, enjoyed having her family around her and sitting by a campfire. She retired from Case New Holland. A daughter, Janice Moyer, lives in Ephrata. A sister, Elva Martin, resides in Denver.

Nancy E. Stoltzfus, 78, of New Holland, peacefully went to be with Jesus Jan. 2 at Fairmount Homes, Ephrata. Born in Stevens, Nancy was a member of Ridgeview Mennonite Church where she taught Sunday school and was director of Christian education. Nancy also worked for many years as a travel agent and tour escort. She and her husband visited 26 countries and all 50 states. One of her favorite travel memories was a trip to South Island, New Zealand.

Phyllis J. Trimby, 87, of Mount Joy, formerly of New Holland, died Jan. 1 at Juniper Village in Mount Joy. Born in Terre Hill, Phyllis worked from 1972 to 1992 at Sperry New Holland, now CNH. She attended St. Stephen Reformed Church in New Holland, and enjoyed reading, cooking and baking.

Tyler Heagy, 15, Ephrata, loved video games, the beach, and the Green Bay Packers

Tyler Heagy, 15, of Ephrata, passed away on Monday, Jan. 1, 2018, at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital.

He was born in York to Gary Heagy and Michelle Graybill.

Tyler loved video games, wrestling, the beach, and the Green Bay Packers.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother: Cody Graybill; maternal grandparents: Lester and Debbie Howe; paternal grandfather: Vernon Heagy; a great-grandmother: Joyce Wolf; and a great-grandfather: Chester Ensinger.

Services were held Jan. 6 at Stradling Funeral Home, Ephrata. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Lester S. Martin, 79, Ephrata, had eight siblings

Lester S. Martin, 79, of Ephrata, passed away on Monday, Jan. 1, 2018, at Gardens at Stevens Nursing Home.

He was born in Earl Township to the late Phares W. and Margie Amelia (Stahl) Martin, and was the husband of Gladys (Stauffer) Martin.

In addition to his wife, Lester is survived by six siblings: Erma S. Martin, Arlene S. Martin, Arthur S.Martin, Ernest S. Martin, Rachel S. Smoker, Mae S. Martin; and several nieces and nephews, including Lamar Martin.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Nevin and Roy Martin; and in-laws: Harvey F. and Maggie R. Stauffer.

Funeral services were held Jan. 5 at the Stradling Funeral Home, 30 Akron. Interment will be private for the family in the Stauffer’s Mennonite Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers.

Virginia L. Good, 91, homemaker, Morgantown UMC member, enjoyed singing, quilting

Virginia L. Good, 91, of Ephrata, formerly of Elverson, passed away on Monday, Jan. 1, 2018 at Ephrata Manor, following an illness.

She was born on May 6, 1926 in Akron, Ohio. Virginia was the daughter of the late Ralph H. and Rintha A. (Hale) Smith. She was the wife of the late Raymond G. Good, who died on Aug. 2, 2011.

Virginia was a homemaker to her beloved family. She was a member of the former Morgantown United Methodist Church. She enjoyed singing and quilting.

She was preceded in death by two sisters: Shirley M. Frey and Opal J. Smith.

Virginia is survived by two sons: Dale E. Good of Gilbert, Ariz.; and Kenneth R. Good of Pottstown; and two daughters: Karen S. Fellenbaum of Honey Brook; and Gale A. Thompson of Amado, Ariz. There are eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 10, at 11 a.m. from The Labs Funeral Home, 141 Pequea Ave., Honey Brook, with Pastor Coleen Painter officiating. Interment will follow at the Caernarvon Cemetery. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service.

Joshua Wayne Browell, 29, EHS grad, played paintball at national level, had a creative mind

Joshua Wayne Browell, 29, of Ephrata, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017 after struggling with addiction the past several years.

He was born in Lancaster to Joseph D. and Barbara L. (Brouse) Browell of Ephrata.

Josh had a very creative mind and his love for animals was evident. In his teenage years he participated in the Ephrata Soccer travel team. He was a 2007 graduate of Ephrata High school/Washington Educational center. He had a passion for paintball and traveled locally and nationally with the Velocity and Wanna Play teams.

We all rejoice in the promise of seeing him again.

In addition to his parents, Josh is survived by a sister: Chelsey K., wife of Wendel Martin of East Earl; paternal grandmother: Rose G., wife of the late Joseph Browell Sr. of Narvon; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Richard H. Sr. and Kathleen Brouse.

Services were held Jan. 7 at First United Methodist Church, Ephrata. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Rhoda N. Zimmerman,  52, of East Earl, passed away at home on Jan. 4, 2018, following a lengthy illness.

She was the wife of Roland D. Zimmerman for 24 years; and the mother of Ryan R. Zimmerman. She was the daughter of the late Lester Jr. and the late Alma (Nolt) Sensenig. Rhoda was raised by the late Miles and Irene Sensenig.

Rhoda was a homemaker and sang with the Roland Zimmerman Family music ministry.

Rhoda is survived by three brothers and three sisters: Lester of Lewisburg; Esther Myrick of Seminole, Ala.; Julia Gehman of Myerstown; Martin of Beulaville, N.C.; Alma of Denver; and Luke of New Holland. She is also survived by Eunice Peters of Manheim, daughter of Miles and Irene.

A graveside service was held Jan. 6 at Martindale Mennonite Church, Ephrata.

Fay D. (Lied) Ruppert, 78, Mary Kay consultant, enjoyed calls with friends, cherished family

Fay D. Ruppert, 78, Ephrata, died unexpectedly Jan. 8, 2018, in Ephrata Community Hospital.

A daughter of the late Russell Lied and Amanda C. (Burkholder) Lied Hartenstine, she was married to Jay P. Ruppert for 60 years.

A member of Grace Point Church of the Nazarene, she cherished her family and loved phone calls with friends. Fay was a longtime Mary Kay beauty consultant and enjoyed car shows and Cape May trips.

Surviving in addition to her husband are children: Rodney R. (Judith L.) Ruppert, Lancaster; and Gail A. (Michael G.) Goodman, Ephrata; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother: Richard R. (Audrey) Lied, Denver.

A memorial celebration of life will be held Thursday, January 18, at 7 p.m. from Good Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, Reamstown, with Pastor Ken Higginbothom officiating.

Mabel Jones Zechman, 89, former resident, Dutchmaid, Terry Mfg. worker, Calvary Church member

Mabel Jones Zechman, 89, of Lancaster, formerly of Ephrata, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, at Manor Care.

She was born in Martic Forge to the late Jacob and Clara (Groff) Aukamp; and was the wife of the late Clifford D. Jones, who passed away in 1987; and the late Harry Zechman, who passed away 2008.

She was a member of Calvary Church, Lancaster. Mabel was a garment worker for various manufacturers including Dutchmaid in Ephrata and Terry Mfg. in Akron.

Mabel is survived by two daughters: Jean Ziegler of Lancaster; Shirley, wife of Frank Kosakoski of Lancaster; two grandsons: Michael, husband of Holly (Berry) Ziegler of Manheim; Derek Parent of Palmetto, Fla.; a great-granddaughter: Quinn Ziegler; two brothers: Charles Aukamp of Quarryville, Paul Aukamp of Lampeter; three sisters: Florence Hess of Washington Boro, Ruth Aukamp of Columbia, and Rose Scheid of Lancaster.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son: Casey L. Jones; and four siblings: Elsie, Josephine, Clara, and Ernest Aukamp.

A memorial service was held Jan. 13 at the Pheasant Ridge Community Center, Lancaster. Interment will be private in the Memory Gardens Memorial Cemetery.

Scott E. Auker, 53, of Lititz, passed away Jan. 9 at UPMC Pinnacle Lancaster. Scott loved all aspects of auto racing and enjoyed going fishing. He was a member of Lititz Mennonite Church. His stepmother, Anita Clippinger-Auker, resides in of Ephrata.

Edwin Earl Crockett, 82, of Elkton, Md., passed away Jan. 13. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard. He retired from Chrysler Corporation, Newark, Del., as an inspector. An avid horseman and cattleman, he loved maintaining his cattle ranch in Tennessee. A pilot, he enjoyed flying his plane, horseback riding, and boating. He was a real cowboy. A daughter, Diane V. Berardi (Robert), lives in Denver. A son, Joseph A. Crockett (Nicole), resides in Ephrata.

Philip “Phil” F. Fisher, 84, of Lancaster, passed away Jan. 14 at UPMC Pinnacle Lancaster. Phil retired in 1986 from Alcoa, Lancaster after 35 years of service. He was a proud U.S. Army and U.S. Navy veteran and was a member of VFW-Post 1690, Lancaster. A son, Jeffrey Philip Fisher, married to Melissa, resides in Denver.

Doris J. Hahn, 82, formerly of Manheim Township, passed away at Luther Acres, Lititz, on Jan. 11. A homemaker, Doris had a quick wit and a sharp tongue. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards games, and quilt and country theme shopping. Doris went to the grocery store almost every day. She enjoyed summer trips to Ocean City, Md. Her son, Steven Hahn, lives in Ephrata. A stepdaughter, Joan Weaver, resides in Denver.

Elizabeth B. Hostetler, 95, of Fairmount Homes, formerly Bird-in-Hand, passed away Jan. 8. A homemaker, Mrs. Hostetler was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. She is survived by a nephew: David F., married to Linda Beiler, Gordonville.

Ralph O. Lutz, 94, of Manheim, passed away Jan. 14 at Pleasant View Retirement Community. Ralph proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. He retired from Binkley & Ober stone quarry after 40 years of service in sales. He enjoyed spending time with his family at their cabin in Snyder County. Ralph is survived by a son: R. Richard Lutz, of Denver.

Craig A. Mickel, 67, of Lancaster, went to be with our Lord Dec. 22. He was a mechanic at Armstrong World Industries for close to 30 years. Mick loved to ride his Harley with his wife and many treasured friends. Spending time with his grandchildren was very important to Craig. A sister, Deborah Fuss, lives in Ephrata.

Erma S. Nolt, 48, of Leola passed away Jan. 15 at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital. She was a homemaker and Mennonite in faith. A sister, Mary Ella, wife of Lawrence Sensenig, and brother, Ammon Weaver, and John, husband of Norma Nolt Weaver, all live in Ephrata. A brother, Mark, husband of Mary Ann Zimmerman Weaver, lives in East Earl

Robert Pattison Simon Jr., 98, formerly of New Holland, died Jan. 7 at Maple Farm Nursing Center, Akron. He started his teaching career at the New Holland High School in 1941-44 and again from 1946-51. He was the principal of the Terre Hill High School from 1951-56. He was an Eagle Scout and as an adult served as the Scoutmaster of Troop 48 (New Holland) from 1947-52. During the Second World War, he served his country from 1944-46 in the U.S. Navy as radar instructor for fighter pilots.

Fred D. Vinson Sr., 98, longtime resident of Luther Acres, Lititz, passed away Jan. 6. Fred proudly served in the US Army during World War II. He worked at Armstrong World Industries as a millwright, retiring in 1982 after 34 years of service. He was a longtime member of Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rothsville. Fred loved his family and especially enjoyed the camping trips he went on with them. A daughter, Marie Ellen Hurst (Nevin), lives in Terre Hill. A son, Donald E. Vinson (Janice), resides in Akron.

Reuben B. Weaver, 95, self-employed carpenter, member of Bowmansville Mennonite

Reuben B. Weaver, 95, of East Earl, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018 at his home.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie M. (Shirk) Weaver in 2007. Born in Lancaster County, he was the son of the late Noah and Onea (Bare) Weaver.

Reuben was a self-employed carpenter during his working years and a member of Bowmansville Mennonite Church, Groffdale Conference.

Surviving are three children: Benjamin, married to Ruth Ann Weaver, East Earl; Esther, married to Ervin Martin, East Earl; Enos, married to Dorothy Weaver, Lewistown; a son-in-law: Ivan Brubaker, East Earl; 23 grandchildren; 80 great-grandchildren; and three siblings: Jason Weaver, Fleetwood; Eugene Weaver, Orrstown; Selestia Weaver, Elkton, Ky.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter: Mary Brubaker; his twin brother: Rufus; and 11 other siblings: Harvey, Raymond, Milton, Myrtle Weaver, Lydia Heil, Mabel Hoover, Alma Sauder, Nancy Shirk, Esther Brubaker, and Margaret Weaver.

Services were Jan. 15 at Bowmansville Mennonite Church, with Bishop Elam Zimmerman officiating. Interment was in the adjoining church cemetery. Kindly omit flowers.

Mildred Grace Zimmerman, 68, homemaker, loving mother, enjoyed traveling, needlework

Mildred Grace Zimmerman, 68, of Annville, and formerly of Ephrata, passed away Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018 at Countryside Christian Community, Annville, after a brief illness.

She was the loving wife of the late John N. Zimmerman Sr., who passed away Feb. 12, 2004.

Milly is survived by her mother: Clara M. Walter; one son: Jeffrey L. Zimmerman; two granddaughters: Morgan and Katie; four siblings: Jane, wife of Robert Atkins; Ronald Wilkerson; Marjorie, wife of Kenneth George; and Kenneth Wilkerson, husband of Maxine; sister-in-law: Tsuyako Wilkerson; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Milly was preceded in death by a son: John N. Zimmerman Jr.; grandson: Ethan John Zimmerman; and her father: Clyde L. Wilkerson.

Milly was a homemaker and loving mother. She worshipped in the Christian faith and had a grateful heart. Milly liked to travel and especially enjoyed Williamsburg, Va., Ocean City Md., and Hawaii. She also did needlework, and loved animals, especially her pet cat.

Friends will be received at Gravenor Home for Funerals, 100 W. Main St., Ephrata, on Thursday, Jan. 18, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. and interment will follow at Memory Gardens, East Cocalico Township.

Nan V. Weidman, 96, business owner, Hamilton Watch worker, seamstress, enjoyed rail travel

Nan V. Weidman, 96, of Lancaster, formerly of Ephrata, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at the Mennonite Home.

She was born in Eastman, Ga., to the late John and Pearl Lee (Reynolds) Vaughn and was the wife of Penn Weidman, with whom she shared 37 years of marriage. They were the former owners of E.I. Weidman Construction in Brownstown.

Nan assembled watches at Hamilton Watch in Lancaster. She was also a seamstress. She enjoyed cooking and loved traveling the rails. She also enjoyed fashion and had done some modeling.

In addition to her husband, Nan is survived by four stepchildren: Martha, wife of Jon Forwood; Diane Weidman, wife of Thomas Keneagy; Cynthia Haughey; Mark, husband of Anne Weidman; eight step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; a brother: Grady Vaughn; three sisters: Dorothy Herr, Lydia Fitzkee and Marjorie Cannon; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Mennonite Home for their kindness and care during Nan’s stay.
