Alta S. Brubaker, 91, of Mohnton, died Dec. 31 at her home after a brief illness. Born in East Earl Township, she was a homemaker and a member of the Bowmansville Mennonite Church, Groffdale Conference. A son, Raymond, married to Emma (Martin) Brubaker, lives in Denver. Sons, Melvin, Brubaker, and Warren, married to Mary (Shirk) Brubaker, live in East Earl. A sister, Sarah, married to Elam Nolt, and brother, Allen, married to Ada (Martin) Zimmerman, also reside in East Earl.
Marvin J. Buchmoyer, 81, of East Petersburg, passed away Jan. 5 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was a technical representative for the Xerox Corporation for 37 years before his retirement. Marvin was a member of Reformation Lutheran Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, having served during the Korean Conflict. A member of the Landisville Lions Club, he enjoyed spending time with his family. His daughter, Brenda Goldsborough, lives in Ephrata.
M. Alice Diller, 98, of Lancaster passed away peacefully on Jan. 1. Alice graduated from the Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing in 1941. She pursued her nursing career at LGH working on the med-surg and maternity wards retiring in 1991. She was the best mincemeat and graham cracker pie baker there ever was. She was a member of Church of the Apostles UCC for over 70 years. A son, Robert (Suzanne) Diller, lives in Mount Joy. Her son, David Diller, lives in Ephrata.
Dwain L. Faucett, 78, of Lancaster, passed away Jan. 1 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. Dwain retired from RCA after 40 years of service. He had an infectious sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. Even in his last days, he continued to joke with his doctors and nurses at hospice. Dwain enjoyed golfing and gardening, sharing his vegetables with many. A stepson, William P. Norton, husband of Beth, lives in Ephrata.
Rollie Roy Gordon II, 39, of Wernersville, passed away Dec. 29 at Reading Hospital Medical Center. Rollie enjoyed hunting and fishing. He worked doing landscaping and hardscaping for Sal’s Landscaping of Reinholds. His mother and step-father, Deb and Rodger Seiler, reside in Denver.
Robert L. “Bob” Houck, 74, of Manheim, and formerly of Blue Ball, died peacefully Dec. 30 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. He retired from Alcoa Incorporated, Lebanon. Bob served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was of the Christian faith and a lifetime member of the Manheim Historical Society and the Elstonville Sportsmen’s Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodcarving, playing pinochle, and attending public auctions. A brother, Terry Houck, lives in Ephrata.
Esther F. Klopp, 67, of Brownstown, companion of Rich Wink, passed away Jan. 5 at home. Arrangements by Roseboro Stradling Funeral & Cremation Services, Denver.
Doris J. Kolp-Ensminger, 79, went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 30 at Hospice Center in Mount Joy. She retired from Wintron in Runville and was of the Lutheran faith. She loved yard sales, casinos, four wheeling, lottery tickets, and the beach, but most of all spending time with her loving family and friends. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be greatly missed. Her daughter, Terri J. Wissler, wife of Howard, lives in Ephrata. A son, Keith L. Kolp, husband of Julie, lives in Ephrata.
Jay P. “Pete” Lockard Sr., 88, of Elizabethtown, died unexpectedly at his residence on Jan. 1. Jay retired as a self-employed computer consultant. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Neffsville where he served as church treasurer and usher. He was a member of the Boys Scouts of America for over 60 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War having served with the Battery C 899th AAA AW Battalion, 28th Infantry Division. A son, Jay P. Jr., husband of Linda Dowlin Lockard, resides in Ephrata.
Denise M. McKillips, 66, of Gap, passed away at the Ephrata Hospital on Jan. 5. She had worked for Lukens Steel Company of Coatesville and was a Longaberger Basket consultant. She enjoyed trips to the family home in Slate Run, spending time at the shore, watching birds, and was an avid Yahtzee player. Most of all she loved spending time with her granddaughter. Her daughter, Kelly Anne, wife of Alan Armstrong, and granddaughter, Skyler Joy Armstrong, reside in Ephrata.
Gary W. Schwetz, 61, formerly of New Holland, died Jan. 5 at Maple Farm Nursing Center in Akron. Gary was last employed as a director of programs for The Delaware Center for Horticulture (DCH) in Wilmington, Del. He was a member of Evangelical United Methodist Church, New Holland. Gary had a passion for the outdoors, especially horticulture, and an encyclopedic knowledge of plants, which he successfully leveraged in his work at The DCH.
Arlene K. Snader, 81, of Lititz, died peacefully Jan. 5. Arlene was a charter member of Grace Church, Lititz, and many Sunday mornings you could find her sitting in the cafe enjoying visiting with friends. She was an avid reader, enjoyed having her family around her and sitting by a campfire. She retired from Case New Holland. A daughter, Janice Moyer, lives in Ephrata. A sister, Elva Martin, resides in Denver.
Nancy E. Stoltzfus, 78, of New Holland, peacefully went to be with Jesus Jan. 2 at Fairmount Homes, Ephrata. Born in Stevens, Nancy was a member of Ridgeview Mennonite Church where she taught Sunday school and was director of Christian education. Nancy also worked for many years as a travel agent and tour escort. She and her husband visited 26 countries and all 50 states. One of her favorite travel memories was a trip to South Island, New Zealand.
Phyllis J. Trimby, 87, of Mount Joy, formerly of New Holland, died Jan. 1 at Juniper Village in Mount Joy. Born in Terre Hill, Phyllis worked from 1972 to 1992 at Sperry New Holland, now CNH. She attended St. Stephen Reformed Church in New Holland, and enjoyed reading, cooking and baking.
