Earl R. Gerhart, 82, Denver High grad, worked at Warner-Lambert, toy train enthusiast

Earl R. Gerhart, 82, Stevens, passed away peacefully on Aug. 22, 2017 in Lancaster General Hospital.

Born in Stouchsburg, Berks County, a son of the late Earl and Agnes (Shimp) Gerhart, he was married to Carole L. (Lied) Gerhart for 48 years on July 26.

Earl was a graduate of Denver High School and was a peacetime U.S. Army veteran. He worked 43 years for Warner-Lambert, then Pfizer, Lititz. Earl belonged to St. Paul’s Evangelical Congregational Church, where he was an usher and member of the kitchen committee. He enjoyed flea markets and was a toy train enthusiast.

Funeral services were held Aug. 26, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Congregational Church, Reamstown, with the Rev. Kirk R. Marks officiating. Burial was be in Fairview Cemetery, Denver.

Grace Marie Hartranft, 92, social director at Parkside Manor, taught Bible study at home

Grace Marie Hartranft, 92, of Stevens, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017, at Exeter Greens Care and Rehabilitation Center in Reading.

She was born in Ephrata to the late Norman and Elizabeth (Hibshman) Eshleman, and was the wife of the late Stephen M. Hartranft.

Grace had attended Reamstown Church of God. She enjoyed teaching Bible study in her home. Grace worked for the Denver Hat Factory, Akron Shoe Factory, and she was also the social director of Parkside Manor.

Grace is survived by two daughters: Bonnie J. Musser of Stevens; Cathy, wife of Richard Steffy, of Denver; five sons: Stephen Hartranft Jr., husband of Candy (Goshert), of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; Paul Hartranft, husband of Christine (Musser), of Ephrata; John Hartranft, husband of Janet (Fox) of Nokomis, Fla.; Philip Hartranft of Stevens; and Joel Hartranft, husband of Doris (Gehman) of Ephrata; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister: Mary Jane Good of Landis Homes.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers: Melvin, Kenneth, and Arthur Eshleman; and sisters, Miriam Weaver and Pauline Zilkie.

Services were held Aug. 30 at the Reamstown Church of God, Stevens, with Pastor Joel Hainley officiating. Interment was in the Middle Creek Brethren Cemetery.

Donna F. Sweigart, 72, Turkey Hill manager, St. John’s member, enjoyed friends, neighbors

Donna F. Sweigart, 72, of Denver, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017, at home.

She was born in Ephrata to the late Leroy and Ella (Meckley) Getz.

She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ and their women’s guild. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and was a wonderful friend to many. She enjoyed puzzles and visiting with friends and neighbors. Prior to retiring, Donna worked in management for Turkey Hill Markets for many years.

Donna is survived by five children: Faith E., wife of Dean Fetter; Hope E., wife of Jerry Pfautz; Vicki L. Reider, companion of Rick Hackman; Bonnie L. Sweigart; Scott A. Sweigart, companion of Lori High; 10 grandchildren: Seth, Kristi, Matthew, Michelle, Dawn, Mandi, Dana, Chad, Justin, and Jayden; 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Loran Getz and wife Karen; and Kenneth Getz and wife Gladys.

She was preceded in death by a brother: Harold Getz; and a sister: Ethel “Dolly” Plotts.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, Aug. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut St., Denver. An additional viewing will be held on Friday, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the funeral home. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., with Pastor Bradley Haws officiating. Interment will take place in the Fairview Cemetery Annex.

Darlene J. Montgomery, 77, co-proprietor of Dutch Lanes, in Red Hat Society, enjoyed history

Darlene J. Montgomery, 77, of Leola, passed away Aug. 27, 2017, at Maple Farms Nursing Home.

Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Geraldine (Enck) Rineer. Darlene was the wife of 53 years to the late Glenn A. Montgomery.

She was the mother to Todd A. Montgomery, husband of Rebecca; and Eric L. Montgomery, husband of Tara; proud grandmother of Amanda Deebel, fiancée of Douglas Klinger; Zachary Montgomery, husband of Katie; Adam Mutzabaugh and Erica Mutzabaugh; great-grandmother to Emma, Olivia, and Sarah; and sister-in-law to Dale Montgomery, husband of Joanne.

Along with her son, Eric, Darlene was co-proprietor of 222 Dutch Lanes Bowling Center, Ephrata. She was very active in the bowling industry. Darlene was past president of the Pennsylvania State Bowling Proprietors Association.

Prior to Dutch Lanes, she worked as the manager of property services a division of The Horst Group. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, the Red Hat Society, and the Sacred Order of the Board. Darlene was a very faithful person, an avid reader, enjoyed history, and planting flowers.

A viewing will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2151 Oregon Pike, Lancaster. Viewing will continue from 10 to 11 a.m., with a funeral service to begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 1 at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Darlene will be laid to rest at the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery.

Annamaria Leed, 80, Ephrata grad, worked at W.W. Moyer, enjoyed bluegrass, macramé

Annamaria Leed, 80, Stevens, died Aug. 30, 2017, in the Gardens at Stevens.

Born in Ephrata, a daughter of the late Paul and Ella Mae (Fry) Uibel, she was a member of Mellingers Lutheran Church, Schoeneck.

Annamaria graduated in 1954 from Ephrata High School and worked at W.W. Moyer, Ephrata, and Woolworth Distribution Center, Denver. She enjoyed bluegrass shows, macramé, crossword puzzles and dining out. Her chicken corn soup and pot pie were the best.

Surviving is her husband of 57 years: Edward W. Leed Sr.; daughter: Martha Ann Leed, Ephrata; son: Michael P. (Sally Zell) Leed, Reinholds; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sons: Dale A. and Edward Jr.; and siblings: Pauline Moyer and Fred Uibel.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m., from Mellingers Lutheran Church, 80 Gockley Road, Stevens, with the Rev. Timothy L. Craven officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Private inurnment will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Ephrata.

Lynn R. Martin, 85, worked at New Holland Supply, active at Grace E.C., Johnny Cash fan

Lynn R. Martin, 85, of Akron, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, at Select Specialty Hospital, Harrisburg.

He was born in Reading to the late Chester A. and Blanche (Diehm) Martin, and was the husband of Marian D. (Hornberger) Martin, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage.

He was an active member of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church in Akron, where he was formerly the director of the choir, a youth group leader, and a member of the bowling team.

Lynn was a sales representative for New Holland Supply before retiring. Since retirement he has worked part-time at J.B. Zimmerman and Royer’s Pharmacy. In earlier years, he enjoyed golf, playing cards, especially the game of Rook, and other sports. He also enjoyed listening to Johnny Cash and Tammy Wynette music. He was a devoted husband, father and loyal friend.

In addition to his wife, Lynn is survived by three children: Jeffrey, husband of Dawn (Wenger) Martin, of Ephrata; Bruce Martin and spouse John Haney of Lancaster; Susan Martin of Akron; four grandchildren: Matthew, husband of Shanon Martin; Mark, husband of Katie Martin; Michelle, wife of Cesar Santiago; Shane, husband of Kylie Weaver; a special cousin: Bruce, husband of Ruth Ann Weaver; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nine siblings: Anna Weaver, Paul Martin, Miriam Gerhart, Virginia Eitnier, Ethel Stauffer, Marion Kramer, Jane Weidenhammer, C. Bruce Martin, and Phyllis Bezler.

Services were held Sept. 5 at Grace E.C. Church, Akron, with the Rev. David Swift and the Rev. Leslie Cool officiating. Interment took place in the Shillington Fairview Cemetery.

Helen M. Martzall, 90, Vertie’s, Ephrata cafeteria worker, active at Ephrata CoB, soccer fan

Helen M. Martzall, of Ephrata, passed on from an active 90 years of living on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017, at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital.

Born in Akron to the late Walter and Anna (Zook) Eitnier, she was the wife of the late Ivan F. Martzall who passed away in 2006.

As a longtime member of the Ephrata Church of the Brethren, she was active in the chancel choir, her Sunday school class, headed up the kitchen committee for a number of years, and volunteered annually at the Brethren Disaster Relief Auction.

Helen started her career as a lead buyer for Vertie’s Clothing Store and later worked in the cafeteria for Ephrata School District, where she retired after 28 years and countless meals. She loved spending time with her family, making special meals (the more people the better), and hosting family gatherings. Helen grew up in a farming family in Akron and very much enjoyed gardening, caring for her sizable lawn and being outdoors. As an avid soccer “grandmom” she attended local and collegiate matches and viewed games regularly on TV.

Helen is survived by a son: Kirby, husband of Joan Martzall, of Lancaster; a daughter: Melisa, wife of Todd Latshaw, of Ephrata; four grandchildren: Krisha Martzall; Breana, wife of Michael Lampo; Nate Latshaw; Amanda Latshaw; and three great-grandchildren: Brylyn Nicholas, Luca, and Frankie Lampo.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother: Walter Eitnier Jr.; and two sisters: Esther Singer and Elta Leicy.

Services were held Sept. 1 at Stradling Funeral Home, Akron, with Pastor Rob Eshelman officiating. Interment took place in the Memory Gardens Memorial Cemetery.

John Frederick Weber, 58, CFO at Lehigh Valley Respiratory Services, good listener

John Frederick Weber, 58, of Lititz, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017.

Born in Ephrata, he was the oldest son of John and Arlene Weber of Ephrata.

John graduated from Lancaster Mennonite High School and Eastern Mennonite College, and had been employed for many years as the chief financial officer at Lehigh Valley Respiratory Services. He loved his job and the people he worked with. John had traveled the world and enjoyed hiking, rafting and in his earlier years, spelunking. John loved his family with all his heart. He had a great sense of humor, was a good listener and had a warm, friendly smile; he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

John is also survived by his four siblings: Janice Weber-Brown (Larry) of Lancaster; Joyce Bomberger (Richard) of Lititz; Jeffrey (Stephanie) of Ephrata; and Jalisa Weber Gingrich (Bruce) of Lititz. He was the beloved uncle to: Heather and Brock Moshier, Brandon and Joshua Tutt, Amanda and Kyle Gingrich, Christian, Caroline and John Colin Weber. He was also loved by numerous extended family members.

A visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 8, from 3 to 4 p.m., at Lancaster Evangelical Free Church, 419 Pierson Road, Lititz. A memorial service will follow at 4 p.m., with Pastor Tony Hunt officiating. Friends may also greet the family following the memorial service. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Robert E. ‘Pop’ Hoffman, 85, Korea vet, house painter, independent, enjoyed Bible study

Robert E. “Pop” Hoffman, 85, of Ephrata, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Almeda (Meck) and Paul G. Hoffman.

Pop was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was stationed in Japan for 32 months during the Korean War and served in the National Guard for three years. He was a self-employed as a house painter for most of his life.

Pop enjoyed studying the Bible. He loved to take his granddaughters out to eat, and solve crossword puzzles. His family will miss his loving and independent personality.

In addition to his beloved wife of 62 years, Shirley (Getz); Pop is survived by his children: Stevin L. Hoffman (Beverly) of Ephrata; and Douglas E. Hoffman (Lorraine) of Vermont; his grandchildren: Angela, Joy, Katrina, Tessa, and Promise; five great-grandchildren: Alivia Faith, Evelynn, Eden, Elijah, and Asher.

He is also preceded in death by his brother: Paul Hoffman.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Sept. 29, at 6 p.m., at the Ephrata Community Church, 70 Clay School Road, Ephrata. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Helen May Good Blatt, 90, formerly of Akron, River Edge waitress, enjoyed gallivanting

Helen May Good Blatt, 90, of Erie, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, at the Independence Court of Erie.

She was born in Akron on May 15, 1927, daughter of the late Preston and Iris Ravegum Good.

Helen worked as a waitress, having been at the River Edge Restaurant for many years. She enjoyed gallivanting.

Helen was preceded in death by her third husband: Robert Blatt; brother: Roger; great-grandson: Dylan; grandson: Tim Good; and granddaughter, Carla Good.

Survivors include her son: U.S. Army (Ret) SFC Timothy L. Good (Gabi); great-grandson: Tony Rieber (Krysta); great-granddaughter: Jade Good; one brother: Charles Good (Beth); several nieces and nephews; and extended family.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Franklin ‘Frank’ Brugger, 88, worked as a painter, active Make-A-Wish Foundation supporter

Franklin “Frank” Brugger, 88, of Ephrata, passed away on Friday, Aug. 25, 2017.

Frank was born in Ephrata, a son of the late Charles and Annie (Mull) Brugger.

He is survived by his long-time companion: Judy Helmick of Ephrata; seven children: Michael Brugger (Ann) of Englewood, Ohio; Susan Hildebran (Nichlas) of West Milton, Ohio; Diane Butkus of Barnesville; Kevin Brugger (Eileen) of Reinholds; David Brugger (Donna) of Reinholds; Francine Firestine of Lancaster; and Christine Dick of Columbia; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by five siblings: John, Elsie, Marie, Charles, and Clarence.

Frank was a longtime resident of Ephrata and worked as a painter. He was also an active supporter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Scott M. Halstead was a devoted father who loved his family. He passed away Aug. 30 at his home. He took great pride in his trade as a Union tile setter. He enjoyed camping, hunting, NASCAR, and trips to the mountains. A sister, Deborah Sherr, wife of Kenneth, lives in Brownstown. A brother, Mark Halstead, resides in Ephrata.

Helen L. (Heistand) Neuenschwander, 82, of Lititz, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Aug. 31. A homemaker and mother of 10, Helen was a member of White Oak Mennonite Church, Manheim. Her son, William Schuler, lives in Ephrata.

Helen I. Reinford, 79, of Manheim died Sept. 1 in ManorCare Health Services, Lebanon. She retired as a registered nurse from the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon. She was a member of Midway Church of the Brethren, Lebanon, where she was an adult Sunday school teacher for 20 years and a member and soloist in the senior choir. She enjoyed traveling and doing counted cross stitch. A son, D. Mark, husband of Wendy Reinford, resides in Ephrata. Her sister, Sandra McNally, lives in Stevens.

Irene M. Weaver, 90, homemaker, Weaverland Mennonite member, enjoyed quilting, baking

Irene M. Weaver, 90, of Ephrata, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017 at Fairmount Homes.

Born in New Holland, she was a daughter of the late Harvey and Mary (Rutt) Martin. Her husband, Hoover Weaver, died March 21, 2008.

Irene was a homemaker and a member at Weaverland Mennonite Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and was active in the sewing circle. She also enjoyed quilting and baking, especially dinner rolls.

Surviving is a son: Robert Weaver of Syracuse, N.Y.; a daughter: Carol Weaver of Ephrata; a brother: Wilmer, married to Gladys Martin of Ephrata; a sister: Ruth Ann, married to William Martin of East Earl; and a stepsister: Henrietta, married to John Shertzer of Lancaster.

Preceding her in death are three siblings: Esther Snader, Carl Martin, and Mary Martin.

Funeral services were held Sept. 2 at Weaverland Mennonite Church, East Earl, with Pastors Brian Martin, Leon Hurst, and C. Kenneth Martin officiating. Interment was the adjoining cemetery.

Frederick Bishop Fichthorn, 83, Korea vet, former president of F&M Hat Co., mayor of Denver

Frederick Bishop Fichthorn, 83, of Denver, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital.

He was born in Reading to the late Emerson R. and Ethel (Bishop) Fichthorn, and was the husband of Mary Ann (Schlegel) Fichthorn.

Fred was a member of the Faith United Evangelical Lutheran Church, Denver. He was the president of F&M Hat Company for many years. Fred served in the U.S. Army in the Signal Corps as a decoder during the Korean War, serving at Marshall Island during the atomic tests. Fred was the mayor of Denver, served as a director on the Fulton Bank, Fulton Financial, and Ephrata Hospital boards.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children: Dr. Kristen Fichthorn, wife of Dr. Themis Matsouks of State College: (James) Brad Fichthorn of Stevens; two grandchildren: Melina Matsouks, Emily Hutchins-Fichthorn: a brother: Richard G. Fichthorn; two sisters: Marjorie, wife of Roger Gerhart; and Candice, wife of Dale Burkholder.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Robert Fichthorn.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 6, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut St., Denver. Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.

John F. Brucker Jr., 84, of Manheim, passed away at home on Sept. 6. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After the war, he went into business as a self-employed auto mechanic and auto body specialist. He was the operator of Brucker’s Garage in Manheim. He was a member of Elstonville Sportsman’s Club, where he led the dart team to several championships. In his retirement he enjoyed wine making; spending time with his family; and traveling. A sister, Marie Gingrich, lives in Ephrat

Daniel B. Forrey, 85, formerly of Columbia, passed away at the Ephrata Community Hospital on Sept. 11. Daniel worked at general labor positions, including a dishwasher at the VFW in Columbia where he was a life social member. He loved reading the newspaper every day and playing checkers. He is survived by his brother Robert B., husband of Christine Forrey, Ephrata.

Lois J. Worthington, 83, of Elizabeth Township, passed away at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy, on Sept. 2. She worked for Warner-Lambert and in retirement had been a nanny. Lois was a very caring person, who enjoyed nature, especially yellow flowers. A NASCAR fan, her favorite driver was Tony Stewart. Her sons, Earl Worthington, husband of Judith; and William Worthington, husband of Lori, reside in Ephrata.

Ronald C. Root, 72, of Ephrata, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2017, in Ephrata Community Hospital.

Born in Bryn Mar, Delaware County, a son of the late Charles A. and Bertha (Cloud) Root, he was a Vietnam War Army veteran.

Ron worked as a security guard for Pfizer, Lititz, and enjoyed Facebook.

Surviving is a brother: John A. Root Sr., Kingswood, Texas; and nieces and nephews.

Siblings David Lee and Joyce Marie predeceased him.

Military honors will be accorded on Thursday, September 14, at 11:30 a.m., in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

Anthony J. Buda, 92, Korea vet, Dept. of Defense specialist, enjoyed photography

Anthony J. Buda, 92, of Akron, passed away Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017, at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy.

He was born in Canastota to the late Salvatore and Josephine (Pagano) Buda, and was the husband of Lucile (Hobart) Buda, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage.

He was a member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Anthony was an industrial specialist with the Civil Service for the Department of Defense for Morristown, N.J.; and later for Reading. He served in the United States Navy for five years during the Korean War. He especially enjoyed photography and computers.

In addition to his wife, Anthony is survived by four children: Teresa “Teri” Buda of Philadelphia; Anthony J. Jr., husband of Heidi Buda, of Mexico, N.Y.; Susan Savitt of Clifton, N.J.; Mark Buda of Columbia, Md.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers: Michael R., Salvatore Jr., Vincent, Marion, an infant brother; and five sisters: Jennie Herlan, Maggie Girolamo, Katie Ariola, Angelica Buda, and Frances Gardino.

Services were held Sept. 8 at Our Mother of Perpetual Help, Ephrata. Final commendation and farewell was held in the Memory Gardens Memorial Cemetery.

Gene H. Huston, 95, decorated WWII vet, GPU engineer, avid hiker, trail caretaker

Gene H. Huston, 95, formerly of Adamstown, died Sept. 11, 2017, in Maple Farm, Akron.

Born in Franklin, he was a son of the late Walter and Minnie Mae (Whitman) Huston. His wife of 71 years, Mary Ellen (Cather) Huston, died Mar. 9, 2014.

Gene was a World War II Navy Bronze Star veteran, serving as Radioman 1st Class. A Grove City College graduate, he was a licensed professional engineer and worked as superintendent of transmission and distribution for 33 years for General Public Utilities. He was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Swartzville; a 33rd Degree Mason, past master of Petrolia Lodge #363, Oil City; and a member of Venango Lodge of Perfection. He traveled the U.S. and Mexico with his wife in their RV.

An avid hiker, he was a member of Keystone Trails Association and cared for sections of Pennsylvania’s Mid State Trail.

Surviving are a son: Jon, married to Donna (Prall), Randolph, N.J.; daughter: Jane L. Huston, married to Ernest Werstler Jr., Reamstown; granddaughters: Meredith Huston; and Marissa, married to Paul Schimpf; great-grandson: Leo Schimpf; and a sister: Nancy Nicks, Lake Wales, Fla.

Services will be Saturday, Sept. 16, in Good Funeral Home, Reamstown; Masonic Rites by Ephrata Lodge #665 F&AM at 11 a.m., funeral to follow, with The Rev. William E. Hoch officiating. Burial with military honors by Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard and Vet 21 Salute Honor Guard in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Adamstown.

Rather than flowers, contributions may be made to Peace United Church of Christ, 37 E. Swartzville Road, Denver, PA 17517; or Keystone Trails Association, 46 E. Main St., Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.

Eugene R. Frankford, 77, former resident, Air Force veteran, Giorgio driver, enjoyed restoring cars

Eugene R. Frankford, 77, of Bloomsburg, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, at Geisinger-Bloomsburg Hospital.

He was born Feb. 17, 1940, in Lancaster, a son of the late Ralph Frankford and Cora Sensenig.

He attended Cocalico High School in Denver, and then joined the U.S. Air Force where he was a radar operator. Eugene was a truck driver for Giorgio Foods in Temple. Prior to retiring, he enjoyed taking his grandchildren out for breakfast. After retiring, the first Saturday of every month, he liked going for breakfast with his truck driving friends and their wives. Eugene attended Shiloh Bible Church, enjoyed restoring old cars, and riding motorcycles.

Eugene is survived by his wife: the former Linda Stump, whom he married Sept. 23, 1961; three children: Kathi Shaffer and husband David of Bloomsburg; R. Scott Frankford and wife Brenda of Berwick; Todd Frankford and wife Donna of Berwick; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother: Ralph Frankford and wife Dolores of Toney, Ala.; step-sister: Sandra Harding of Sinking Spring; and several nieces and nephews.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Robert, William, and James Frankford; and three sisters: Fern Busser, Ruth Beck, and Linda Yost.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 16, at 11 a.m., at Shiloh Bible Church, 123 Church St., Bloomsburg. Burial will be private at Indiantown Gap Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service.

William J. Blackshire Jr., 91, Ephrata, died Sept. 7, 2017, in Ephrata Community Hospital.

Born in Philadelphia, a son of the late William J. and Esther (Switzer) Blackshire Sr., he was a World War II Army veteran.

William was of the Catholic faith and managed Father & Sons Shoe stores, Philadelphia. He was an avid bowler; enjoyed camping and golf; and was a fan of the Phillies, Eagles, and Barnstormers. He was a loving gentleman who cherished his family and friends.

Surviving are children: Joy Blackshire, Philadelphia; William J. Blackshire III, Ephrata; and Kelly (James) Cooper, New Holland; grandchildren: Ian, Billy Joe, Trevohr, Caitlyn, Patrick, and Emily Jane; great-grandson: Connor; and his former wife: Rita U. Huffnagle, Ephrata.

Brothers John and Joe, predeceased him.

Funeral services were held Sept. 11 at Good Funeral Home, Reamstown. Burial followed in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Adamstown.
