Larry Lee Sensenig, 78, retired from C&D Technologies, attended Ephrata United Zion

Larry Lee Sensenig, 78, of Ephrata, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, at Lancashire Hall.

He was the husband of the late June (Hossler) Sensenig. Born March 3, 1939 in Ephrata, he was the son of the late Harold I. and Ruth E. (Blantz) Sensenig.

Larry had worked for C&D Technologies, Inc., Leola, before his retirement. He had attended Ephrata United Zion Church, Ephrata.

Surviving is his son: Gary L. Sensenig of Pottsville; his grandson: Chance; and his brother: Barry Jay Sensenig.

He was also preceded in death by his daughter: Stacy L. Sensenig.

Funeral arrangements are private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Remembrances can be made in his memory to a charity of one’s choice.

Abner ‘Shorty’ Martin, 29, amazing dad, always willing to help others, enjoyed woodworking

Abner Glenn “Shorty” Martin, 29, of Ephrata, died unexpectedly of natural causes, on Sept. 7, 2017.

Abner was born Sept. 27, 1987, in Mercersburg. He grew up in Pennsylvania but then moved away and lived in Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Arkansas, prior to moving back to Ephrata.

He was an amazing father, husband, and person. He always helped anyone who needed help. Shorty always put others and their needs before his. When he wasn’t at work with his brother and best friend, he was helping others and spending time with his family. He enjoyed woodworking when he had some extra time.

He is survived by his wife: Danielle (Walden); two sons: Jaxson and Noah; his parents: Nolan and Shirley Martin, Lititz; his parents-in-law: Christopher and Jennifer Harden, Overland Park, Kansas; brothers: Jeremy Martin (Davina), Versailles, Mo.; Jaylan (Tamar) Martin, Lancaster; Abram (Grace) Martin, Honey Brook; Zachary (Amanda) Martin, Terre Hill; Gabriel (Jazlyn) Martin, Ephrata; Emanuel (Justina) Martin, Ephrata; Rafael (Dominique) Anzaldua, Dallas, Texas; sisters: Tancy Zook (Joe), Poteauu, Okla.; Tiana Stoltzfus (Steve, Millbrook, Ala.; Tabeal Martin, Lititz; sister-in-law: Michelle Walden, Overland Park, Kansas; 20 nieces and nephews; and many uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Services were held Sept. 12 at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, Lititz.

Ruth G. Burkhart, 94, worked at Keystone Nightwear, Christian Aid, Re-Uzit Shop volunteer

Ruth G. Burkhart, 94, of Ephrata, formerly of Reamstown, entered into the presence of her Lord on Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, at Fairmount Homes.

Her husband of 60 years, John H. Burkhart, preceded her in death in 2001. Born in Bowmansville, she was the daughter of the late Barton and Elizabeth (Geigley) Good.

Ruth was a seamstress for the former Keystone Nightwear Company. She had also volunteered at Christian Aid Ministries and Re-Uzit Shop, Ephrata.

Surviving are three children: Shirley, married to Paul Weaver, Denver; Wilmer G., married to Maryann Burkhart, East Earl; and John Jr., married to Ann Burkhart, Akron; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter: Betty Jane Roland, on Sept. 4; three infant children: Dorothy Mae Burkhart, Donald Eugene Burkhart, Gloria Fay Burkhart; and seven siblings: Edna Good, Amos Good, Elizabeth Fox, Susanna Good, Isaac Good, Ella Mae Weaver, and Edwin Good.

Her memorial service will be held on Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, at 11 a.m., at Bowmansville Mennonite Church, 129 Pleasant Valley Road, East Earl, with Pastor Larry Weber officiating. Friends will be received at the church on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family in the adjoining cemetery.

Jeffrey L. Rudy, 67, GSM plasma cutter, devoted to his wife, collected antique tackle

Jeffrey L. Rudy, 67, of Ephrata, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital.

He was born in Ephrata to the late Dolores P. (Rudy) Sechrist, and was the husband of Terri L. (Stormfeltz) Rudy, with whom he shared 18 years of marriage.

Jeffrey was a plasma cutter operator for GSM industrial and previously worked for Clair Brothers Audio. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially the beach, fishing, and collecting antique tackle. He loved music, animals, and adored his wife Terri.

In addition to his wife, Jeffrey is survived by his father: James E. Sechrist of Ephrata; a brother: Lon G. Wolf of New Holland; two sisters: Bonnie Weaver of Lorena, Texas; Sherry, wife of Kevin Kapp, of Manheim; and his in-laws: John and Pat Stormfeltz of Lebanon.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, Sept. 16, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Stradling Funeral Home, 201 Church Ave., Ephrata, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. Interment will take place in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

Janice G. Van Zant, 86, Sears retiree, active at Hope UMC, baked extraordinary pies

Janice G. Van Zant, 86, of Akron, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at home on Monday, Sept. 11, 2017.

Born in Albany, N.Y., on July 12, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Wanda (Dobrowolski) Martin. Janice was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years: G. Paul Van Zant; and two sons: David Van Zant and Allen Van Zant.

Surviving Janice are four adoring children: James Van Zant (Janet) of New Freedom; Susan Colbert (Donald) of Perrineville, N.J.; Patricia Koontz (William) of Reading; and Cheri Van Zant of Akron; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and her faithful little Sheltie, Hannah.

Janice grew up in Rutland, Vt., and attended the University of Vermont as a pre-med student. She concluded her working career with 14 years at Fulton Bank following her retirement from retail sales at Sears for 34 years.

Janice was an active member of Hope United Methodist Church in Ephrata, where she was the treasurer for the church and her Sunday school class for many years. An avid reader, American history captured her interest, as did the Bible. She sought an active lifestyle and enjoyed knitting as well as participating in the church’s Bible study groups, playing pinochle, and socializing with the many dear friends and incredible neighbors who blessed her life.

Her talent for baking extraordinary pies delighted all who were lucky enough to feast upon them. A devoted fan of the Phillies, Eagles, and Penn State, she could always be found in her cheerful sunroom watching the games and overlooking her beloved backyard and birds. Though she remained in Pennsylvania, her love for Vermont continued and she traveled there often. However, her love and devotion to her family were unrivaled. The true example of unconditional love and unwavering strength, Janice will be dearly missed by the many whose lives she touched.

A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m., on Saturday, Sept. 30, at Hope United Methodist Church, 3474 Rothsville Road, Ephrata. Fellowship and refreshments will follow in the church’s Fellowship Hall. Interment will be private.

Daniel B. Forrey, 85, Columbia VFW worker, enjoyed reading the paper, playing checkers

Daniel B. Forrey, 85, a resident of Denver Nursing Home, formerly of Columbia, passed away at the Ephrata Community Hospital on Monday, Sept. 11, 2017.

Born in Lancaster, Daniel was the son of the late Daniel H. and Alice Becker Forrey.

Daniel worked at general labor positions including a dishwasher at the VFW in Columbia, where he was a life social member. He loved reading the newspaper every day and playing checkers.

He is survived by his brothers: Robert B., husband of Christine Forrey, Ephrata; and Merle B., husband of Lois Forrey, Mifflin.

He was preceded in death by a brother: Kenneth B.; and a sister: Mary Hargreaves.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Daniel will be interred at Graybill’s Cemetery, East Petersburg, along with his parents.

Deaths of Local Interest – Sept. 20, 2017

Charlotte Schroll Daugherty, 93, died Sept. 1 at Hospice and Community Care in Mount Joy. She worked as a bookkeeper. Her last place of employment was with Good’s Furniture in New Holland. She enjoyed reading, was extremely gifted at knitting, enjoyed watching basketball and rarely missed watching a game played by her Philadelphia Phillies. A grandson, Matthew Good, lives in Ephrata. A stepdaughter, Carol Foltz (Timothy), resides in Brownstown.

Ruth Elizabeth Parker, 91, of Lititz, passed away Sept. 12 at UPMC Pinnacle Lititz. Ruth had worked for the Boeing Corp. in Seattle, Wash., prior to working for the Watt and Shand Department store in Lancaster. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and sewing as hobbies. Her daughter, Bonnie Jean Myers-Trout and husband, the Rev. Dennis Trout, live in Denver. A grandson, Kevin Myers and wife, Nicole, live in Ephrata.

Jay D. Weaver, 84, Ephrata H.S. grad, Millersville U. math professor, genealogist, author

Jay D. Weaver, 84, died on Sept. 1, 2017 at Brethren Village, Lancaster.

Born in Ephrata Township on April 20, 1933, he was the son of the late J. Landis Weaver and Ada S. (Horst) Weaver; and was married to Mary N. (Musser) Weaver of Landisville, for 62 years.

In addition to his loving wife, Mary, Jay is survived by a daughter: Ellen Weaver; a son: James Weaver, husband of Sherry; a grandson: Joshua Weaver; two great-grandsons; three sisters: Arvilla Langsdale, Donna Foster, Elizabeth Weaver; and two brothers: John and Ronald Weaver.

Jay was a member of the Lancaster Church of the Brethren where he sang in the chancel choir. He taught the Questers Bible Series and various adult Sunday school classes. At various times, he served on the church board and on a number of committees, including chairing the education commission and the worship commission.

He was a graduate of Ephrata High School and Millersville University, where he majored in mathematics education. He also received a master of science degree in mathematics from the University of Illinois, and did extensive graduate work at the Pennsylvania State University.

His teaching career included several years at the former West Reading High School, West Reading, and at Warwick High School, Lititz. In 1959, he joined the mathematics department at Millersville University, retiring there in 1988 with the rank of Professor of Mathematics Emeritus.

He had several articles published in mathematical journals and co-authored a textbook entitled Modern Mathematics for Elementary Teachers. While at Millersville University, he chaired the committee that created the computer science major and authored the original proposal for that program. He also served as statistician on a research project, studying macro-invertebrate life in the Susquehanna River at the Three Mile Island atomic power plant. While on the faculty at Millersville he served as director of the computer center, a member of the judicial committee, a board member on the college credit union, and numerous other departmental and college-wide committees. He also chaired 13 master’s papers committees. He also was a member of the honorary fraternities Phi Sigma Pi and Phi Delta Kappa.

Jay researched his family history and published his genealogy in Pennsylvania Mennonite Heritage journal in 1995. For many years, he maintained a website where he posted his genealogical information. After retiring from teaching, he began a career of writing in connection with that website. His writings include poetry, hymns, devotionals, essays, and personal stories. Most of these appeared on a page he called his “Thought for the Week.” In 2009 these materials were published in a book entitled Footprints through the Forest.

Jay and Mary raised their family in the village of Conestoga where he helped found the local Jaycee chapter, serving as secretary, and later as president for one year. They lived at the Oaks Condominium in East Lampeter Township for 15 years prior to moving to Brethren Village in 2008. Over the years, Jay and his wife were avid campers and travelers. They spent 17 winters in Venice, Florida, where they worshipped and sang in the choir at Trinity Presbyterian Church. Their travels included Europe, South and Central America, much of Canada, and they visited every state in the union at least once.

A service celebrating the life of Jay will be held on Saturday, Sept., 30, at 1:30 p.m., at Lancaster Church of the Brethren; 1601 Sunset Ave., Lancaster. A time of visitation will take place at the church from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Burial will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.

Charles H. Lesher, 89, Korea vet, worked for Eastman Kodak, former VFW Commander

Charles H. Lesher, 89, of Denver, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital.

He was born in West Reading to the late Pierce F. and Ada (Hoshauer) Lesher, and was the husband of Betty J. (Wink) Lesher, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage on June 6.

Charles was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Denver. He was also a lifetime member of Brendle Coleman Post V.F.W., Adamstown, where he was a past post commander, chaplain and trustee; life member, secretary, and chief of staff of the Cooties; life member of the American Legion, Avon, N.J.; U.S. Navy Club Association, and U.S. Navy Cruiser Association He enjoyed golfing and bowling.

A 1947 graduate of the former Shillington High School, Charles was a veteran who served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Charles worked for Eastman Kodak for 24 years prior to his retirement.

In addition to his wife, Charles is survived by two sons: Michael C. Lesher and wife Patricia, Randall S. Lesher and wife Darlene; a daughter: Lynn Dee Fedina; eight grandchildren: Shawn, Troy, Tabitha, Nicholas, Michael, Quinn, Lance, and Dustin; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother: Pierce F. Lesher,Jr. and wife Ethel (Shober); and a sister: Mary Ann Fritz.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson: Kyle; five brothers: Richard Farlow; Walter, Samuel, and Frederick Lesher; and Chester Witman; and a sister: Joann Schlegel.

Services were held Sept. 16 at Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, Denver, with Pastor Bradley Haws officiating. Interment took place in the Cedar Grove Cemetery, Adamstown, where military rites were accorded by the Red Rose Veterans and 21 Vet Salute Honor Guards.

Janet H. Leid, infant daughter of John A. and Nancy S. (Horning) Leid, of Ephrata, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, at UPMC Pinnacle Health, Lititz.

In addition to her parents, Janet is survived by five siblings: Nathan H., Neil H., Marlene H., Evelyn H., Duane H., all at home; paternal grandparents: John and Lucy (Sensenig) Leid of Ephrata; maternal grandparents: Eli and Nora (Shirk) Horning of New Holland; and maternal great-grandmother: Sarah Horning of New Holland.

She was preceded in death by an infant brother: Matthew H. Leid.

A graveside service was held Sept. 16 at Conestoga Mennonite Church Cemetery (Groffdale Conference), with Pastor John Daniel Sensenig officiating.

Miriam R. Hartranft, 87, Denver, mother of seven, homemaker, married 64 years

Miriam R. Hartranft, 87, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2017, with her husband of 64 years by her side.

Born on Dec. 14, 1929, in Elstonville, she resided in Denver, Route 1. All her married life, she was a homemaker and wife of Leon M. Hartranft. She was the daughter of Abram L. and Minnie H. (Ruhl) Huber.

She was the mother of four sons: Garry, Gerald, Randy, and Brian; three daughters, Donna, Carol, and Karen. There are 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; eight grandpuppies; a brother: A. Eugene Huber; and two sisters: Dorothy Eckman and Doris Huber.

Preceding her in death are two sisters: Mary Jean Huber and Betty Martin.

The service was held Sept. 18 at Eckenroth Home for Funerals, Terre Hill. Interment followed at Pleasant View Cemetery, Fritztown Road, Spring Township, Berks County.

Alvin F. Martzall, 94, decorated WWII vet, contractor, Bee Tree camp cook, enjoyed farming

Alvin F. Martzall, 94, of Manheim, and formerly of Akron, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, at Pleasant View Retirement Community in Manheim.

He was the loving husband of the late Elizabeth “Betty” J. (Sheaffer) Martzall, who passed away on April 4, 2005. Alvin was born in East Cocalico Township on March 1, 1923, a son of the late Samuel M. and Stella (Fisher) Martzall.

Alvin served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater and was awarded two Bronze Battle Stars. He worked as a plasterer and carpenter with Ivan Eberly and George Stief Contractors for 22 years and then with his brother Ellis Martzall for 18 years. Alvin was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Denver for more than 50 years.

He enjoyed farming, gardening, playing cards, reading, hunting, spending time at the mountains, and was also a member of the Bee Tree Hunting Club in Lycoming. After he gave up hunting, Alvin stayed on at Bee Tree as camp cook.

Alvin is survived by two children: Brenda L., wife of John E. Sheaffer, of Lancaster; and Dennis A. Martzall, husband of P. Kristin (Gravenor) Martzall, of Akron; two grandchildren: Abby K. (Martzall) Nelson, wife of Timothy J. Nelson. of Lake Wynonah; and Daniel A. Martzall, husband of Denise (LeGrand) Martzall, of Christiana; four great-grandchildren: Elly, Jonah, Hannah, and Adeline. Also surviving is his brother: Harlan F. Martzall (Dorothy) of Adamstown.

In addition to his wife and parents, Alvin was preceded in death by two brothers: Ellis F. and Chester F. Martzall; and one sister: Kathryn Stahley.

Funeral services were held at Gravenor Home for Funerals, Ephrata, on Sept. 20, with the Rev. Brad Haws officiating. Interment with Military Honors was held at Fairview Cemetery Annex in Denver.

Carol A. Weaver, 62, Susquehanna Valley Pregnancy Services director, loved the Lord, sunsets

Carol A. Weaver, 62, of New Holland, died unexpectedly on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, and is now with Jesus.

Born in Ephrata, she was a daughter of the late Luke M. and Dorothy (Wanner) Leaman. She was married 41 years on May 22 to Tim L. Weaver.

Carol graduated from West Reading Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse. She has been working since 1999 for the Susquehanna Valley Pregnancy Services in Ephrata, most recently as director of post-abortion ministry. She has also been training volunteers with Surrendering the Secret, a post abortion ministry, and served on the board of 10 Million for Christ.

She was a member of Petra Church. Her first love was the Lord, and she deeply loved her family. She enjoyed cooking, baking, the beach, beautiful sunsets, and was known for her smile and love for people.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three daughters: Angie, married to Brian Zimmerman, of Temple; Amy, married to Doug Pfautz, of Ephrata; and Tina, married to Tyler Mull, of Brownstown; eight grandchildren; two sisters: Donna, married to Glen Kanagy, of Belleville; Sandy, married to Clair Martin, of Narvon; and a brother: Dale, married to Lonita Leaman, of New Holland.

Services were held Sept. 14 at Petra Church, New Holland, with the Revs. Lester Zimmerman, Jeremy Leaman, and Brian Flewelling officiating. Interment was in the Petra Memorial Park.

Robert M. Buckwalter Jr., 46, pressman for R.R. Donnelly, car enthusiast, devoted family man

Robert M. Buckwalter Jr., 46, of Ephrata, passed away Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017.

He was born in Lancaster to Robert M. and Irene J. (Bemesderfer) Buckwalter, and was the husband of Pamela A. (Postlethwait) Buckwalter, with whom he would have celebrated 25 years of marriage on Sept. 26.

Robert was a devoted father, husband and loving family man. He was an avid car enthusiast and loved doing home projects. He was a pressman for R.R. Donnelly and Sons. Robert had many friends at work and in his car circles. His friends and family describe him as honest and hardworking and would do anything for you.

In addition to his wife and parents, Robert is survived by two daughters: Samantha A. Buckwalter, fiancée of Timothy J. Marquette; Kayla M., wife of Kyle M. Henry; two grandchildren: Kiara and Kaiden, with another on the way; and a brother: Kevin L., husband of Lori R. Buckwalter.

Services were held Sept. 15 at Stradling Funeral Home, Akron, with Pastor Tim Morrison officiating.

Larry Laverne Groff, 73, pastor at Martindale Mennonite, owned, operated Larry L. Groff & Sons

Larry Laverne Groff, 73, went home to be with the Lord early Tuesday morning, Sept. 19, 2017, at Keystone Villa in Ephrata, where he resided with his lovely wife: Leah Lucille (Martin) Groff.

Born in Reamstown, Larry lived most of his life in the Denver/Schoeneck area, where he was an excavator and a general contractor by trade. He owned and operated Larry L. Groff and Sons which continues on by his son, Elvin A. Groff.

Larry served as pastor at Martindale Mennonite Church in Martindale for 18 years, and he loved helping those in need. He traveled abroad to several countries and to numerous states to assist in rebuilding projects following natural disasters. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin and being with his family. Larry was a devoted member of the Martindale Mennonite Church. He served for many years as a school board member of Gehmans Mennonite School and Terre Hill Mennonite High School. He will be greatly missed by his family, many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Larry is survived by his wife: Lucille, with whom he shared 52 years of married life. Larry and Lucille have five children: Marilyn of Talmage, married to Lloyd Martin; Margaret of Denver, married to Brian Martin; Kevin of Bradford, married to Sheila (Brubaker) Groff; Philip of New Holland, married to Sharon (Gehman) Groff; and Elvin of Stevens, married to Jennifer (Stauffer) Groff; 20 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren:

In addition he is survived by five brothers: Richard Groff of Lititz; Donald, Kenneth, Marvin, and Paul Groff, all of Stevens; and a sister: Martha Jane (Groff) Burkholder of Stevens.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Harold and Mary Jane Groff; two brothers: Harold Jr. and Robert Groff; and two granddaughters, Alisha and Ashley Martin.

Services were held Sept. 23 at Martindale Mennonite Church, Ephrata. Burial took place in the adjoining cemetery.e.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Martindale Mennonite Church, 171 Hurst Road, Ephrata, PA 17522.

Thomas D. Ostapuck Jr., 81, Cocalico school teacher, OMPH member, EARS driver, baseball fan

Thomas D. Ostapuck Jr., 81, of Stevens, passed away Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017, at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital.

He was born in Weehawken, N.J., to the late Thomas Sr. and Mildred (Fisher) Ostapuck, and was the husband of Barbara (Miller) Ostapuck, with whom he shared 48 years of marriage.

Thomas attended Our Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Franklin & Marshall College, and taught special education at Cocalico Middle School, retiring in 1993. While at Cocalico, he kept score for the boys’ baseball team and the girls’ basketball team. He then worked at Nolt’s Pond, Manheim Auto Auction, and was a driver for EARS. Thomas was a lifetime member of the PSEA and the NEA. He loved attending baseball games, reading, and music.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter: Tracy, wife of Jeffrey Love, of Gretna, Va.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister: Diane Ostapuck.

Services were held Sept. 25 at Our Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Ephrata, with the Rev. Father John J. McLoughlin, C.Ss.R. as celebrant. Final commendation and farewell took place in Pleasant View Cemetery.

Doris E. White, 80, teacher, life-long Girl Scout and leader, active at First UMC, avid traveler

Doris E. White, 80, of Cornwall Manor, Cornwall, formerly of Ephrata and Columbia, continued her life’s journey as she walked into the arms of Jesus on Friday, Sept. 22, 2017.

Born March 31, 1937, in Doylestown, she was the daughter of the late E. Paul and Florence C. (Lenters) White. She was a graduate of Columbia High School, Class of 1955, Lebanon Valley College, and Temple University. She was a teacher in Red Lion, Norristown, and Eastern Lancaster County School districts. She kept in touch with many former students through Facebook and visits from them.

Doris was an independent lady who loved her family; her many friends; her pets; the out-of-doors, her vegetable gardens; wildlife, both plants and animal; and traveling. She was a member of Ephrata First United Methodist Church where she served on the administrative board, pastor-parish relations committee, scouting representative, and funeral luncheon committee at various times through the years.

A life-long Girl Scout, she earned the highest honor: First Class-Curved bar as a girl; Thanks Badge I and Thanks Badge II as an adult; and the Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania award. She received a 75-year pin. She was a leader of Cadette and Senior Girls Scouts for more than 25 years and served on the Foxfire and archives teams for both Penn Laurel and GSHPA. Serving as a camp counselor, she took girls on canoe trips down the Susquehanna River and backpacking trips on the Appalachian Trail in addition to teaching them about living in the outdoors, loving nature and appreciating history. She served her alma mater, Lebanon Valley, as alumni ambassador and received the D. Clarke Carmean Award in Admission in 2006.

After retiring, she traveled to Europe several times as well as many parts of the United States. She especially enjoyed the Girl Scout Roundup Reunions held in Vermont and Colorado Springs. She also kept herself busy tracing her family history from England and Germany.

Doris is survived by one sister: Joan, wife of Donald Hogentogler, of Avon, Conn.; a niece and two nephews, and their families; numerous cousins; her close friends: Ken and Norma Higginbotham; and her beloved cat: Buster.

Friends and family are invited to attend her memorial service at First United Methodist Church, 68 N. Church St., Ephrata, on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m., with a visitation prior, starting at 10 a.m. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family and friends in Hatboro Cemetery, Hatboro.

Arlene E. Hostetter, 87, of Stevens, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017, at home.

She was born in Refton to the late Owen S. and Elizabeth S. (Stoner) Hostetter.

Arlene was a member of the New Covenant Church of God in Ephrata.

Arlene is survived by two nephews; four nieces; and a sister-in-law: Norma L. Hostetter of Lancaster.

She was preceded in death by a brother: Glen D. Hostetter.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Rabieth “Tootie” McEllhenney, 95, formerly of Ephrata, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, at The Gardens at Stevens Nursing Home.

She was born in Millway to the late Irvin and Lizzie (Haldeman) Showers, and was the wife of the late Clayton McEllhenney.

Rabieth was a member of the Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, Ephrata.

She is survived by a son: Darell C., husband of Mildred (Leed) McEllhenney, of East Petersburg; two daughters: Sandra A., wife of Glenn Brandt, of Palmyra; Brenda M., wife of the late Franklin Leed, of Ephrata; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a daughter: Darlene Davidson; a brother: Vincent Showers; four sisters: Gladys Smith, Feyhilda Strohl, Dorothy Ryan, and Violet Heil.

Services were held Sept. 23 at Stradling Funeral Home, Ephrata, with Pastor Philip Walck officiating. Interment took place in Mount Zion Evangelical Cemetery.

Ida O. (Sensenig) Martin Musser, 75, of Kleinfeltersville, entered into rest peacefully on Sept. 21 at home, after an 18-month battle with cancer. A beloved wife and mother of 10, Ida loved spending time with family and friends. She was a member of Springville Mennonite Church (Weaverland Conference). Her daughter, Louise, wife of Mervin Horst, lives in Newmanstown; son Jeffrey, husband of Janice (Martin) Martin, resides in East Earl; son Lowell, husband of Elaine (Martin) Martin, lives in Denver; daughter Joanna, wife of Jerry Hurst, Denver; Karen, wife of Bernell Martin, Stevens. She is also survied by stepsons, Marlin, husband of Mary Jane (Reiff) Musser; and Michael, husband of Janie (Nolt) Musser, Stevens; and Banks, husband of Lorene (Sensenig) Musser, Denver. A brother, David, husband of Esther (Good) Sensenig, lives in Ephrata; A sister, Ella, widow of Ivan Z. Martin, resides in Terre Hill. A sister, Barbara, widow of Elvin K. Martin, lives in Denver. A brother-in-law, Phares, husband of Katie Newswanger, resides in Newmanstown.

Mary B. Stauffer, 87, of Marietta, formerly of Manheim, passed away Sept. 21 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. She attended the Jerusalem Church, Penryn. In her earlier years, Mary was an auction junkie, and enjoyed attending and having yard sales. She also enjoyed cooking, canning, and spending time with her beloved family. Her son, Merle, husband of Lynn Stauffer, lives in Ephrata
