Elam R. Zimmerman, 85, 651 Old Akron Road, Ephrata, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015, at the Ephrata Community Hospital, after a brief illness.
He was born in Ephrata to the late John D. and Annie (Reiff) Zimmerman and was the husband of Ellen Z. (Newswenger) Zimmerman.
He was a member of Conestoga Mennonite Church, Groffdale Conference, and had been a self-employed farmer.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons: Amos, husband of Susie Zimmerman of Mifflinburg; Elam, husband of Pauline Zimmerman of Stanley, N.Y.; Luke, husband of Mary Zimmerman of Lititz; Jonathan Zimmerman at home; six daughters: Edna, wife of Melvin Martin of Ephrata; Florence, wife of Warren Nolt of Leola; Lydia, wife of Amos Zimmerman of Ephrata; Elva, wife of Ervin Zimmerman of Ephrata; Ellen and Susan Zimmerman, both at home; 56 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and a sister: Frances, wife of Paul Burkholder of Leola.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-grandchild; two brothers: Aaron and John Zimmerman; seven sisters: Mary Weaver, Ella Sensenig, Annie Zimmerman, Lydia Weaver, Lizzie Martin, Minnie Shirk, and Emma Hoover.
Services were held April 21 at Conestoga Mennonite Church, Ephrata, with Bishop Ammon Weaver officiating. Interment was in the adjoining church cemetery.
