Thelma M. Hornberger, 86, formerly of Ephrata, active in Ephrata VFW, loved jigsaw puzzles

Thelma M. Hornberger, 86, of Lititz, formerly of Ephrata, passed away Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, at Luther Acres.

She was born in Terre Hill to the late Paul and Minnie (Fry) Sheaffer and was the wife of the late James K. Hornberger.

She was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church, Ephrata. She was a life member of the Ephrata VFW Post 136, where she was a former Treasurer and Chaplain, a member of the Ephrata Amvets Auxiliary, Friendly Circle, and Terre Hill Alumni Group. She loved spending time in the mountains, working on jigsaw puzzles, and traveling to Florida.

Thelma is survived by two sons: Donald Fox of Akron and James Fox of Lancaster; four daughters: Lisa, wife of Shawn McEllhenney of Ephrata; Susan, wife of Randy Buck of Denver; Carol, wife of Paul Reiner of Apollo; and Linda, wife of Dennis Martin of Ephrata; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three sisters: June McCoy, Bernice Erb and Judy Capwell, all of Ephrata.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her first husband: Robert S. Fox, who died in 1965; two sisters: Betty Martzall and Margaret Deater; and two brothers: Eugene and Richard Sheaffer.

A service was held Oct. 14 at the Luther Acres Chapel, Lititz, with Chaplain E. Walter Cleckley, Jr. and Pastor Paul Reiner officiating. Interment took place in the Muddy Creek Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Thelma’s memory may be made to the Luther Acres Benevolent Fund, 600 E. Main St., Lititz, PA 17543.
