Kenneth “Papa Ken” L. Cunningham, 81, of Ephrata, formerly of Lancaster, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, at Moravian Manor, Lititz, after a long illness.
Born Feb. 28, 1934 in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Paul and Claire (Heist) Cunningham. He was the husband of Jane L. (Eckman) Cunningham; they were married May 20, 1988.
A career military veteran, Kenneth had retired in 1977 as a MSGT from the U.S. Air Force after 22 years of service, part of which was during the Vietnam War. Following retirement, Kenneth was employed by Lockheed Air Craft International, Saudi Arabia. Kenneth was an active member of the First Baptist Church, Lancaster, where he sang in the choir. He enjoyed playing cards, bingo, ping-pong and horseshoes.
Also surviving are four children: Randall Cunningham, married to Lori, of North Carolina; Russell Cunningham, married to Colleen, of Australia; Deborah, married to Barry Wray, of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; and Christopher L. Cunningham, married to Rhonda, of Phoenix, Ariz.; five stepchildren: Frank A. Kautz Jr,. married to Janice, of Lancaster; Carol Blom, of Pequea; Carlton L. Armstrong, married to Denise, of New Providence; John Michael Armstrong Sr. of New Holland; and Bryan D. Armstrong Sr. of Lititz.; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and siblings: Gloria May, Doris Jean, Dorothy, Herbert, Dennis, Richard, and Donald; as well as extended family and caring friends.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife: Sandra L. (Leffler) Cunningham, who died in 1986; a stepdaughter: Linda E. Nonnenmocher; and siblings: Clyde Edward, Walter Charles, Paul Jr., George Robert, and Harvey James Jim.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Papa Ken’s celebration of life service to be held at the First Baptist Church, 612 N. Duke St., Lancaster, on Saturday, Jan. 30, at 4 p.m. The family will receive friends on Saturday following the service. Private interment will be held in the Conestoga Memorial Park, Lancaster, with full military honors accorded by the U.S. Air Force.
