Nora B. Hoover, 85, Ephrata, member of Cocalico Mennonite Church, mother of 11

Nora B. Hoover, 85, of Ephrata, passed away Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019, at Fairmount Homes.

She was born in Clay Township to the late John F. and Edna (Burkholder) Martin, and was the wife of Amos B. Hoover.

Nora was a member of Cocalico Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by six sons: Neal, husband of Ella Mae Hoover of Mt. Pleasant Mills; Jay Paul, husband of Dorothy Hoover of Mt. Pleasant Mills; Amos Lynn, husband of Alice Hoover of Blain; Robert, husband of Rachel Hoover of Rutledge, Mo.; John David, husband of Arlene Hoover of Loysville; Timothy, husband of Joan Hoover of Rome; three daughters: Rose, wife of Leroy Martin of Colby, Wisc.; Edna, wife of Mark Leinbach of Loysville; Esther, wife of Merle Martin of Colby, Wisc; a son-in-law: Ronald Reinford of New Bethlehem; 86 grandchildren; 145 great-grandchildren; six siblings: Arlene, wife of Earl Sauder; Elvin Martin; John, husband of Mary Ann Martin; Amos, husband of Edna Martin; Ervin, husband of Joyce Martin; Anna, wife of Vernon Weaver; and two sisters-in-law; Esther Mae Martin and Anna Martin.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son: Harold Larry Hoover; a daughter: Janet Reinford; infant brothers: Franklin and Harold Martin; and brothers: Weaver and Lester B. Martin.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, Aug. 22, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at Farm Crest Chapel, Fairmount Homes, 1100 Farm Crest Drive, Ephrata. Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 23, at 9:30 a.m, at Springville Mennonite Church, 580 Springville Road, Ephrata, with Bishop Melvin Martin officiating. Interment will take place in the adjoining church cemetery. Kindly omit flowers.

Evelyn M. Anderson, 96, Ephrata, homemaker, enjoyed gardening, time with her grandkids

Evelyn M. Anderson, 96, of Ephrata, passed away on Aug. 9, 2019 at Ephrata Community Hospital.

She was the loving wife of the late Walter F. Anderson. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Henry L. and Emma B. (McCune) Rogers.

After graduating from high school, Evelyn dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker. In her spare time, Evelyn enjoyed gardening, sewing and spending time with her adoring grandchildren.

She is survived by a daughter: Kathleen M. Berger (wife of John); six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister: Roberta Rogers; and a brother: Kenneth Rogers

She was predeceased by two sons: Walter F. Anderson Jr. and Donald M. Anderson; a daughter: Donna M. Moyer; and a brother: Herbert Rogers.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family with interment at Fairview Cemetery in Wrightsville.

Weaver S. Auker, 83, Ephrata, Stauffer Mennonite Church member, self-employed harness maker

Weaver S. Auker, 83, of Ephrata, passed away on Friday, Aug. 16, 2019, at home.

He was born in West Earl Township to the late Weaver B. and Lizzie Z. (Shaub) Auker, and was the husband of Bertha Z. (Martin) Auker.

Weaver was a member of Stauffer Mennonite Church, and was a self-employed harness maker.

In addition to his wife, Weaver is survived by four siblings: Clarence Auker of Ephrata; Earl, husband of Fianna (Brubaker) Auker of Ephrata; Mary, wife of Allen Zimmerman of Clark Range, Tenn.; Phares, husband of Lena (Martin) Auker of Selinsgrove; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Ralph, Raymond and Paul Auker.

Services were held Aug. 19 at Stauffer Mennonite Church, Earl Township. Interment took place in the adjoining church cemetery. Kindly omit flowers.

Daniel G. Peters, 65, Achenbach’s Pastries part owner, enjoyed Barnstormers, family time

Daniel G. Peters, 65, of Leola, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 16, 2019 at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Harold and Ruth Becker Kopp. He was the loving husband of Diane Detwiler Peters, and they would have celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary in November.

Dan was one of the owners of Achenbach’s Pastries, Inc., Leola. In his earlier years, he worked for Sears at the Park City Mall, Lancaster, as an assistant manager for their auto center. Dan attended the Lancaster Alliance Church and he graduated in 1972 from Manheim Township High School and Willow Street Vo-Tech. His interests included camping, gardening, watching the Lancaster Barnstormers and he loved to spend time with his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter: Rebecca D. Lueders of Lancaster; two grandchildren: Nicholas and Hailey Lueders; and numerous brothers and sisters.

He was preceded in death by a son-in-law: Andrew S. Lueders.

Services were held Aug. 21 at Buch Funeral Home, Manheim. Interment was in Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery, East Lampeter Township.

Clarence Kern Jr., 83, Army vet, contractor, president of C. Kern Inc., devoted to granddaughters

Clarence “Coonie” Kern Jr., 83, of Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim, formerly of Denver, went to his heavenly home on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2019 after a valiant battle with a long illness. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.

Coonie was born to the late Clarence V. Kern Sr. and Dora Stoner Kern in Red Run on March 11, 1936.

He served his country overseas in Germany as a private in the U.S. Army. Coonie worked as a masonry contractor, while president of C. Kern Inc. for many years in Reamstown. He enjoyed an active retirement, spending summers at the beach and always helping others. Coonie and his wife were long time members of Swamp Christian Fellowship Church in Reinholds, where he faithfully volunteered and served as a deacon.

Coonie was blessed with a loving family. He married Marlene Buchter on July 27, 1963 in Adamstown. Coonie helped raise his two children with patience, discipline and humility. He was kind and soft-spoken, always had a smile on his face and loved a good joke.

He was an avid outdoorsman who hunted and fished and was a member of the East Fork Hunting Club in Potter County He was also just as happy being outdoors tending to his always meticulously maintained yard. He enjoyed country music and woodworking, particularly making furniture for his family. Those pieces will be treasured even more in his memory. Coonie was a devoted husband and father, but his greatest joy was his three granddaughters. There was no title he cherished more than that of “Pap Pap.” He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator.

Coonie is survived by his wife: Marlene; his daughter: Kim Kern of Akron; son: Kevin Kern, husband of Kelly, of Fort Mill, S.C.; three granddaughters: Grace Sutton Kern, Georgia Katherine Kern, and Audrey Elizabeth ‘Libby’ Kern; and brother: J. Richard Kern of Stevens.

He was predeceased by brother: Henry; and two sisters: Betty Kern and Henrietta Kirkham.

Visitations will be Thursday, Aug. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Good Sipler Funeral & Cremation Centre, 34-38 N. Reamstown Road, Reamstown, and Friday, Aug. 23, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Swamp Christian Fellowship Church, 390 Swamp Church Road, Reinholds. The memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m., officiated by Rev. Craig Frazier. Interment is private at Muddy Creek Cemetery, Denver.

Leon M. Oberholtzer, 61, East Earl, dairy farmer, Hinkletown Menn. member, tractor pull competitor

Leon M. Oberholtzer, 61, of East Earl, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019 at Lancaster General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in East Earl Township, he was the son of Adam and Ella (Martin) Oberholtzer of East Earl.

Leon was a member of Hinkletown Mennonite Church. He was a dairy farmer and also sold seeds for Northrup King. He had enjoyed competing in tractor pulls in several East Coast states.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two siblings: Edwin, married to Lucy Oberholtzer, East Earl; and Ella Mae, married to Stanley J. Zimmerman, Lebanon; two nieces; and three nephews.

His funeral was held Aug. 19 at Hinkletown Mennonite Church, Ephrata, with Pastors Glenn Sauder, Daniel Showalter, and Jared Weaver officiating. Interment was in the adjoining church cemetery.

Janet Lambertson, 86, Ephrata, was secretary, Child Evangelism Fellowship volunteer

Janet Lambertson, 86, of Ephrata, passed away Friday, Aug. 16, 2019, at Lancaster General Hospital.

She was born in Staten Island, N.Y. to the late Harry and Garnet (MacKenzie) Churchill, and was the wife of William Lambertson, with whom she shared 57 years of marriage.

Janet was a member of Ephrata Bible Fellowship Church. During her working years, Janet was a secretary. Her ministry in life was teaching Sunday school for many years and spreading the gospel to children in the neighborhood through Child Evangelism Fellowship. She had a sweet spirit and was a devoted and Biblical wife. She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially loved her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons: Richard, husband of Sharon Lambertson of Manheim; Doug, husband of Peggie Lambertson of Somerset, N.J.; Mark, husband of Christy Lambertson of Winsted, Minn.; six grandchildren: Matthew Lambertson, Michael Lambertson, Kimberly Andino, Rebecca Crespo, Bethany Connolly and Jacob Lambertson.

Services were held Aug. 20 at Stradling Funeral Home, Ephrata, with Pastor Jason L. Hoy officiating. Interment took place at Ocean View – The Cemetery Beautiful, Staten Island, N.Y.

Jordan H. Hursh, 18, Ephrata, attended Helping Hands and Hearts, MV Mennonite member

Jordan H. Hursh, 18, of Ephrata, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019, at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital.

He was born in Ephrata to Carl N. and Lori J. (Hurst) Hursh.

Jordan attended Meadow Valley Mennonite Church. He was currently attending Helping Hands and Hearts, Myerstown, and previously attended Hillside Special Education, Hinkletown, and Community Care Center, Intercourse. He was a patient at The Clinic for Special Children, Strasburg. Jordan enjoyed music, driving his golf cart, checking the mail, and was especially looking forward to his 19th birthday on Aug. 18. The Clinic for Special Children fundraiser auction (donuts, fries, lemonade, iced coffee, ice cream, root beer) was the highlight of his life.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his siblings: Matthew, husband of Kristina (Fox) Hursh of Stevens; Jodi, wife of Shawn Eberly of Richland; Nathan, husband of Melanie (Weaver) Hursh of Stevens; Jared and Conrad Hursh, both at home; paternal grandparents: Ivan and Marian (Nolt) Hursh of Ephrata; and maternal grandparents: Leonard and Laura (Martin) Hurst of Lititz.

He was preceded in death by two siblings: Jeremy and Kimberly Hursh.

A viewing will be held Wednesday, Aug. 21, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Midway Mennonite Reception Center, 210 E. Lexington Road, Lititz. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 22, at 9:30 a.m., at Meadow Valley Mennonite Church, 200 Meadow Valley Road, Ephrata, with Bishop Melvin Martin officiating. Interment will take place in the adjoining church cemetery.

Samuel ‘Sam’ L. Hainley, 75, Army vet, Dart retiree, Million Mile Driver, liked car cruises, flea markets

Samuel (Sam) L. Hainley, 75, of New Holland, passed away at home on Friday, Aug. 16, 2019.

Born in Denver on April 24, 1944, he was the son of the late Samuel L. and Hester Hainley. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Dolores (Dory Diem) Hainley.

In addition to his wife, Sam is survived by his three children: Cindy Hoffert, Sandy Kotay and Tim Rice; a stepson: Randy (Zip) Young, and his son Damian Young, who were very special to him; four brothers: Ronald, Fred, Norman, and Terry; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Sam was preceded in death by a brother: Lyman Hainley.

He attended Cocalico School. Sam served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963. He was a truck driver for 44 years and was proud of being recognized as a Million Mile Driver, having driven 1,000,000 miles without a chargeable safety violation or accident. Sam retired from Dart Container in 2012 after 21 years of service.

When Sam wasn’t driving truck, he enjoyed going to car cruises with his daughter Cindy, where they both showed their 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Classic cars. Sam also liked spending time with his buddies from work, drinking coffee and exchanging truck driving stories. His truck buddies meant a lot to him. Sam also liked going to flea markets, NASCAR races, and taking an occasional trip to the casinos.

Sam was blessed by wonderful and caring neighbors, and will fondly be remembered for his love of family and friends and the ability to make everyone laugh with his humor and his talking stuffed animals.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church, 4833 Division Hwy., East Earl on Saturday, Aug. 24, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Kris Poontajak officiating. Interment will follow the memorial service at Ranck’s United Methodist Cemetery, 700 Ranck Road, New Holland. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Harold L. Ressler Sr., 92, Martin Limestone supervisor, was gospel bluegrass musician, fisherman

Harold L. Ressler Sr., 92, of Ephrata, formerly of East Earl, died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2019 at Fairmount Homes.

Born in East Cocalico Township, he was a son of the late D. Grube and Anna (Zimmerman) Ressler. He was married 73 years on Aug. 3 to Helen G. (Sensenig) Ressler.

Harold retired in 1992 as supervisor at Martin Limestone, now New Enterprise, after 44 years of service. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling, fishing and transporting Amish. In his later years he assembled kits of various kinds, including the Conestoga Covered Wagon and created items with gourds.

He was a member of Groffdale Mennonite Church where he taught Sunday school, and served as chorister for many years. He was very gifted musically and was a part of various men’s quartets and played and sang in different gospel bluegrass groups over the last 60 plus years.

Surviving in addition to his wife are six children: Velma (Louis) Sauder of Leola; Erma (Lester) Zimmerman of New Holland; Harold Lee Jr. (Wanda) Ressler of Uniontown, Ohio; Cathy Ressler of Leola; Larry (Deborah) Ressler of Burrton, Kansas; and Shirley (Matthew) Cousino of Pittsburgh; 15 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, are eight siblings: John, Paul (infant), Martin, Elmer, Melvin, Clarence, Anna Mae, and Elvin.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Aug. 30, at 10 a.m. at Groffdale Mennonite Church, 168 N. Groffdale Road, Leola. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Viewing will be held on Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Fairmount Homes, Wheat Ridge Chapel, 333 Wheat Ridge Drive, Ephrata, and on Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at Groffdale Mennonite Church.

Jane I. Reese, 86, formerly of Ephrata, career educator, survived by two children

Jane I. Reese, 86, a former resident of Ephrata, passed away on Friday, Aug. 23, 2019 at the Bob Fryer & Family Inpatient Center in Mount Joy.

Jane was born in Earl Township on Dec. 18, 1932 to Arthur and Alta Koch. She married Lee W. Reese of New Holland on March 17, 1951. Jane and Lee were married for 52 years; Lee passed away in March 2004.

Lee’s career in education took the family to other states for many years but after retirement, Jane and Lee returned to their beloved Lancaster County and lived in Ephrata for more than 25 years.

Jane is survived by a son: Rodric R. Reese of Houston, Texas; a daughter: Lisa Reese Behrens (Ray) of Raleigh, N.C.; a grandson: Jesse R. Behrens (Lindsay) of Raleigh; and two great-grandsons: Nolan Lee Behrens and Oliver Reese Behrens.

The family held a private graveside service at Conestoga Memorial Park in Lancaster.

Donna Elaine Sensenig, 70, of Reinholds, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019, at Hospice & Community Care, Lancaster.

She was born in Ephrata, daughter of the late Fern Blankenbiller.

Donna was an avid reader and a Redskins fan. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Donna worked for Bollman’s Hat Factory and was a waitress at various coffee shops in the area.

Donna is survived by a son: Dale of Reinholds; four grandchildren: Dale Jr., Brandon, Kayla, and Nicole Sweigart; six great-grandchildren: Aubrey, Anthony, Jayden, Arianna Sweigart, Joshua, Elijah, and Corbin; three siblings, Deb Althouse of Adamstown, Shirl Singer of Lititz, and Barry Redcay of Ephrata.

Dale W. Mellinger, 70, USAF retiree and DAV member, outdoorsman, enjoyed county cuisine

Dale W. Mellinger, 70, of Terre Hill passed away on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019, while surrounded by his wife and two daughters.

Born on Sept. 10, 1948 in Lancaster, Dale was the son of the late Elmer B. Mellinger and Loyce Schnader Mellinger Martin; and stepson of the late Kenneth R. Martin.

Dale was medically retired from the United States Air Force.

He is survived by his beloved wife: Roxann Beck Mellinger, with whom he shared 48 years of marriage, and who was the love of his life and faithful companion for 50; two daughters: Jennifer, wife of Michael Givler of East Petersburg; and Jessica, wife of Joseph Krupansky of West Chester; and was “Poppy” to two granddaughters: Allyson and Erin Givler. He is also survived by a stepsister: Julia Mengel of New Ringgold.

Dale was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of the New Holland American Legion and the New Holland V.F.W. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, sharing jokes, Lancaster County cuisine, and his family.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to Hospice and Community Care for the loving care they provided to Dale at home and the inpatient facility in Mount Joy.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 1 p.m. at the Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland with visitation from noon to 1 p.m. Interment will be in the Bridgeville Cemetery with full military honors.

James C. Parsons, 74, Reinholds, enjoyed cards with friends, Southern Gospel, camping

James C. Parsons, 74, of Reinholds, passed away after a lengthy illness at home on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2019.

He was the husband of the late Roberta Parsons, and son of the late Benjamin and Martha (Rhoads) Parsons.

James is survived by four daughters: Lora, wife of Jeff Senseney of Harrisburg; Lisa, wife of Steve Freysz of Erie; Pam Parsons of Reinholds; and Sheila Parsons of Annville; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

James loved being with his family and playing cards with friends. He enjoyed listening to Southern gospel music, watching Westerns, and camping.

Memorial services will be held at Grace Point Church of the Nazarene, 110 Durlach Road, Ephrata, on Thursday, Aug. 29, at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends before the service from 10 to 11 a.m. and a luncheon will follow the service.

Larry Landis, 66, Ephrata native, Ames Construction carpenter, enjoyed hunting and fishing

Larry Landis, 66, of Lititz, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Legends of Lititz.

Born in Ephrata, he was the son of the late John and Betty Rodman Landis. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Mayre Lowry Landis. They would have celebrated 45 years of marriage in September.

Larry was a 1972 graduate of Conestoga Valley High School. He worked as a carpenter for Ames Construction, and prior to that worked for Foltz Pottery. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and woodworking.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son: Dustin Landis, Lancaster; a daughter: Heidi, wife of Josh Ruhl, East Petersburg; two grandchildren: Lily and Lincoln Ruhl; a sister: Patsy, wife of Allen DeHaven, Brownstown; and a brother: Rick, husband of Joanne Landis, Ephrata.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 29, at 11:30 a.m. from the Furman Home for Funerals, 59 W. Main St., Leola. The family will greet friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Dori Ann Sporre, 57, Luzerne Co. notary, enjoyed baking, knitting, and rescuing dogs

Dori Ann Sporre, 57, of Ephrata, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2019, at WellSpan York Hospital.

She was born in Ephrata to Dorothy Mae (Griffith) Rudy and the late Elias D. Rudy, and was the wife of Barrett L. Sporre, with whom she shared 15 years of marriage.

In her early years, she attended Evangel Assembly of God, Ephrata.

Dori was a notary for Luzerne County. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and cross-stitch. She also enjoyed baking, doing crossword puzzles and rescuing dogs, especially her dog, Emma.

In addition to her husband, and mother, Dori is survived by a sister: Darla Mae, wife of Daniel R. Pilcher of Westerville, Ohio; and a brother: Jeffrey D., husband of Julie A. (Williams) Rudy of Akron.

Services and interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Janis Burkholder Eberly, 79, co-owned Ephrata Beverage Mart, legal secretary, liked kittens, flowers

Janis Burkholder Eberly, 79, of Stevens, passed away on Friday, Aug. 23, 2019 at WellSpan York Hospital.

Born in Ephrata, Janis was a daughter of the late Irvin and Bertha (Kline) Burkholder. Janis’ husband, the late W. Lamar Eberly, passed away June 23, 2016.

Janis worked as a legal secretary and also kept the books for the Ephrata Beverage Mart that she co-owned and operated with her husband Lamar. She was also a homemaker and loved taking care of her two children.

Janis enjoyed reading, shopping, and visiting with family and friends. She especially loved kittens, kids, and flowers. If any neighbors, friends, or family members needed help or a car ride, Janis was always quick to be there for them.

She is survived by her two children: Rebecca S., wife of Randolph F. Hack of Palmyra, N.J.; and William B. Eberly, husband of Edna (Crist) Eberly, of Denver; one step-granddaughter, Ashley N. Crist of Lancaster; three sisters: Phyllis Bezner of Lancaster, Gladys Dennis (William) of Florida, and Iris McDivitt (Capt. Richard) of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephew.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one sister: Doris Nestleroth.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 30 at Paul L. Gravenor Home for Funerals, 100 W. Main St. Ephrata. The family will receive friends before the service from 10 to 11 a.m.

 E. Paul Weaver III, 67, Myerstown, Weaver Nut Company founder, is survived by five children

E. Paul Weaver III, 67, of Myerstown, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019.

Born in Cochranville, Chester County, he was a son of the late Elmer P. Weaver Jr. and Martha (Groff) Weaver. Paul was the beloved husband of Miriam I. (Zeiset) Weaver. They would have celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on Sept. 7.

Together with his wife, Paul founded Weaver Nut Company, Inc. located in Ephrata, which has been a family-owned and operated business since 1975, and is now being operated by his two youngest sons.

Paul is survived by his wife, Miriam; and his five children: Angela Nolt and her husband Kevin of Newmanstown; E. Paul Weaver IV and his wife Nancy of Denver; Gloria Martin and her husband Dustin of Lititz; Vincent Weaver and his wife Kate of Manheim; and Edward Weaver and his wife Joy of Myerstown. Also surviving are 24 grandchildren; and seven siblings: Martha Rose Weaver of Lena, Wisc.; David Weaver and his wife Marlene of Robesonia; Timothy Weaver and his wife Carolyn, Robesonia; Mary Ann Miller and her husband Arlin, Buffalo, Mo.; James Weaver and his wife Twila, Falls Creek, Wisc.; Elizabeth Horst and her husband Leon of Leetonia, Ohio; and Rachel Miller and her husband Llewellyn, Doniphan, Mo.

Viewings will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p,m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29, at White Oak Church of the Brethren, 1211 N. Penryn Road, Manheim, where funeral services will begin at 10 a.m.

Jerry Nessinger, 66, Weaver bricklayer, enjoyed raising beagles, hunting, running field trials

Jerry Nessinger, 66, of Reinholds, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019, at home.

He was born in Ephrata to the late Eugene and Grace B. (Lausch) Nessinger, and was the husband of Susan A. (Landis) Nessinger, with whom he shared 42 years of marriage.

Jerry was a bricklayer for N. R. Weaver. He enjoyed hunting, raising beagles and running field trials.

In addition to his wife, Jerry is survived by three children: Mike, husband of Melissa Nessinger; Christy C., wife of Jaime Rivera; Jerry Jr., husband of April Nessinger; and five grandchildren: Amerisa Rivera, MaKenzie Rivera, Jenna Nessinger, Andrew Nessinger, and Alyssa Nessinger.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute for their kindness and care during Jerry’s time there. They would also like to thank the staff at Hospice & Community for the compassionate care Jerry received.

A celebration of Jerry’s life was held Aug. 27 at Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, Denver. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Mary K. Messner, 100, Ephrata, was homemaker, Calvary member, made amazing holiday meals

Mary K. Messner, 100, a resident of Fairmount Homes, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2019.

Born in East Earl, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Kathryn Sharley Messner.

Mary was a member of Calvary Church in Lancaster. She was a homemaker and was known for the outstanding meals she made for the holidays.

Surviving is a sister: Edith Hess of Lebanon; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by siblings: Alverta, Edna, Helen, Luella, Irvin and Lloyd.

A funeral service will take place on Friday, Sept. 6, at 10:30 a.m.. at the Eckenroth Funeral Home, 209 E. Main St., Terre Hill, with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be in the Hahnstown United Zion Cemetery.
