Ray P. Bollinger, 91, dairy farmer, combine harvester, long-time Durlach-Mt. Airy Fire chief

Ray P. Bollinger, 91, of Stevens, passed away at home on Thursday, March 28, 2019.

Born in Clay Township, Ray was the loving husband of the late G. Geraldine (Newcomer) Bollinger, and son of the late Abram E. and Mae B. (Palm) Bollinger.

Ray worked as a self-employed dairy farmer. He also enjoyed doing custom combine harvesting for local farmers, and was a member of the Ephrata Area Young Farmers. A longtime member of the Durlach-Mount Airy Fire Company, Ray served as chief for 29 years. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Ephrata.

Surviving are four children: Brenda, wife of Gary Landis of Lititz; Ruth, wife of Kenneth Getz of Ephrata; Jim Bollinger, husband of Lisa, of Stevens; and John Bollinger, husband of Grace, of Denver; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother: Elam Bollinger, husband of Irene, of Manheim; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Ray was preceded in death by a son: Ray Daniel Bollinger; and a sister: Arlene P. Good.

Services were held April 3 at Salem Lutheran Church, Ephrata, with the Rev. Jeffrey Goodman officiating. Interment followed at Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Brickerville.

Edwin H. Bowermaster Jr., 87, a resident of Garden Spot Village, New Holland, passed away April 2. Edwin served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a radio operator using Morse Code. He retired from E. M. Herr, Inc. in Quarryville after 21 years of employment. He enjoyed raising seeing eye puppies as a hobby. A daughter, Lisa, wife of Allan Buffenmyer, lives in Ephrata.

Stephanie K. “Kaye” Fisher, 51, of Lititz, passed away on April 5 surround by her family. Kaye had worked for over 20 years at Moravian Manor as a certified nurses assistant, as well as for five years at Luther Acres as a rehab aide. She was a “mom” to everyone, and her house was always open. She had a heart of gold and was loved by all. Her son, Nick Fisher, resides in Ephrata.

Eva M. Shirk, 78, of Narvon, died April 4 at her home. Eva was a homemaker and a member of Churchtown Mennonite Church. Her husband, Martin M. Shirk, survives. A daughter, Mary Ann married to James Zimmerman, lives in East Earl.

Lena G. Sauder, 96, homemaker, mother of five, member of Churchtown Mennonite Church

Lena G. Sauder, 96, formerly of East Earl, died Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Fairmount Homes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Noah Sauder, in 1999. Born in Earl Township, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Alice (Good) Eberly.

She was a homemaker and a member of Churchtown Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference.

Surviving are four children: Mervin, married to Marlene Sauder, Mohnton; Noah Jr. married to Susan Sauder, Lebanon County; Doris, married to Lawrence Martin, Narvon; Dorothy, married to Paul Newswanger, McAlisterville; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; five siblings: Alice Horst, Anna Mary Oberholtzer, Joseph Eberly, Titus Eberly, and James Eberly.

She was preceded in death by a daughter: Minerva, wife of Leroy Sauder; a brother: Daniel; and a sister: Susanna.

The family wishes to express thanks to the staff at Fairmount Homes for the competent and compassionate care given to Lena for the last 2½ years.

Her funeral was held April 8 at Churchtown Mennonite Church, Narvon, with Bishop Leon S. Zimmerman, Leon B. Zimmerman, John Martin, Earl Martin, and Marlin Lauver officiating. Interment was in the adjoining church cemetery. Kindly omit flowers.

Patricia A. Care, 78, LGH phlebotomist, private duty nurse, enjoyed RV trips, family time

Patricia A. Care, 78, of West Lawn, formerly of New Schaefferstown, passed away on April 3, 2019 at her residence.

She was the wife of the late Daniel Care, Sr., and they celebrated 58 years of marriage. Born in Denver, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Josephine (Mentzer) Ream.

Patricia was employed as a phlebotomist for Community General Hospital and as a private duty nurse for 25 years. She enjoyed gardening, shopping, casinos, crossword puzzles, and lunches with friends and her sisters. Patricia and her late husband, Daniel, spent many years enjoying trips in their Winnebago including winters in Florida and a three-month trip around the country. They also enjoyed a summer home in Leisure Point, Del., for 21 years.

Although Pat had many loves in her life, family was her number one priority; she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Pat was a member of St Paul’s United Church of Christ of New Schaefferstown.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brothers: Larry Mentzer and Eugene Ream.

She is survived by her children: Gregory S. Care, husband of Justine of Mohrsville; Dean M. Care, husband of Brenda of Bernville; Tina R. Gring, wife of Michael of Sinking Spring; and Daniel Care Jr., husband of Lori of West Lawn. Also surviving are grandchildren: Gregory Jr., Anthony, Brianne, Deanna, Christian, Kelsey, and Taylor; sisters: Sandra Lorah, wife of James; Sharon Ramsey, wife of Lynn; and Cynthia Blymier; brother: Gerald Ream, husband of Vicki. She also adored her Yorkie, Bouncer, for the past 12 years.

A celebration of life tribute service will be held at Bean Funeral Home, 3825 Penn Ave., Sinking Spring, on Thursday, April 11, at 6: p.m., with celebrant Amy S. Landis officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives from 4 to 6 p.m.

Robert Wanner, 76, was Alcoa retiree, ECOB member, avid outdoorsman, liked muscle cars

Robert “Bob” Lee Wanner, 76, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Ephrata, died Thursday, March 28, 2019.

Bob was born on Wednesday, June 24, 1942 in Denver to the late Harry S. Wanner and Ruth (Longenecker) Wanner.

Bob’s survivors include his wife of 60 years: Darla Jean (Shenk) Wanner; his three children: Cynthia “Cindy” Ann Styer and her husband, Alan, of Ephrata; Sharon Yvonne Dull and her husband, Jay Sr., of Ephrata; Brian Scott Wanner and his wife, Kristie, of Mechanicsburg; five grandchildren: Lori, Derek, Jay Jr., Cole, Grayce; two great-grandchildren: Ashlee, Logan; two siblings: Ronald Wanner; Charlene Regar and her husband, Rick; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved canine companion: Palmer the Plott Hound.

Bob retired from Alcoa Mill Products in Lancaster, after more than 40 years of service working as a fabricator and in the maintenance department. He was a member of the Ephrata Church of the Brethren, where he served as an usher. Bob was an avid outdoorsman; he truly loved the outdoors, whether it was on the beach or in the mountains.

He especially enjoyed visiting Williamsburg, Va., with his family. Bob liked watching old western television shows and had a passion for classic muscle cars. He could tell you all the details, no matter the make or model. Bob loved to attend the Carlisle car shows. His family meant everything to him and they will fondly remember his unwavering dedication to them as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Services were held April 9 at Ephrata Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Rob Eshelman officiating. Burial will followed in Middle Creek Brethren Cemetery in Lititz.

The family sends their most heartfelt thanks to the Lower Allen Township Emergency Response Team and Police Department.

Donald E. Althouse, 69, Stevens, High Concrete worker, enjoyed Tioga hunting, fishing trips

Donald E. Althouse, 69, of Stevens, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at Lancaster General Hospital.

He was born in Ephrata to the late Kenneth and Doris (Good) Althouse, and was the husband of the late Sharon Althouse, with whom he shared 21 years of marriage before her passing in 1993.

Donald grew up in Denver, the oldest of nine siblings: Larry, David, Ronald, Kenneth, Jeffrey, John, Cindy (Gehman), and Michael.

Donald worked at High Concrete for over 25 years. He loved his family, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trips to Tioga County.

Donald is survived by two sons: Jesse Althouse, husband of Lenette Althouse; Travis Althouse; a daughter: Jenny Althouse; and eight grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother: Jeffrey Althouse.

Services were held April 8 at Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, Denver, with Pastor Russ Eberly officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family, in the Fairview Cemetery Annex.

Eleanor S. Hertzog, 92, of Lititz, formerly of Akron, died on Friday, April 5, 2019 in Lititz.

She was a daughter of Ellsworth and Martha Sara Sweigart. Her late husbands were: Aaron Witmer (died in 1974) and Clarence Hertzog (died in 2003).

Eleanor is survived by several stepchildren and their families; and three siblings: Ellsworth, Warren, and Irene.

Services were held at Gravenor’s Home for Funerals, Ephrata on April 9.

Lester B. Martin, 82, Mennonite minister and bishop, president of Martin’s, father of 14

Lester B. Martin, 82, of Denver, entered into rest peacefully at his residence, on Wednesday, April 3, 2019.

Lester was ordained as a minister for Meadow Valley Mennonite Church on Dec. 5, 1961, and ordained as a bishop in the Weaverland Mennonite Conference on June 19, 1991.

He was a partner in John F. Martin & Sons Meats and Martin’s Country Market from 1961 to 2017, and also served as company president for over 30 years.

He was the son of the late John F. and Edna (Burkholder) Martin. He was the loving husband of Esther Mae (Musser) Martin, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.

Surviving in addition to his wife are 14 children: Sharon (Lloyd) Weiler of Manheim; Sylvia (Glen) Martin of Narvon; Gerald (Doreen) Martin of Bernville; Joyce (Edward) Good of Memphis, Mo.; Kenneth (Lucy) Martin of Stevens; Brenda (Dale) Martin of Denver; Shirley Nolt of Bernville; Carolyn (Carl) Fox of Schaefferstown; Christine (Daryl) Hurst of Red Creek, N.Y.; Jay (Regina) Martin of Denver; Curtis (Michelle) Martin of Savannah, N.Y.; Esther (Nevin) Nolt of Denver; Dean Martin of Robesonia; Rose (Jeffrey) Brubaker of Reinholds; 76 grandchildren; and 89 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are seven siblings: Nora (Amos) Hoover, Arlene (Earl) Sauder, Elvin Martin, John (Mary Ann) Martin, Amos (Edna) Martin, Ervin (Joyce) Martin, and Anna (Vernon) Weaver.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Weaver; and two infant brothers: Franklin and Harold.

Services were held April 9 at Meadow Valley Mennonite Church, Ephrata, with Bishop Melvin Martin officiating. Interment was in the adjoining church cemetery. Kindly omit flowers.

Wilmer M. Weaver, 99, Ephrata, WWII vet, NH Machine worker, Grace Point Church member

Wilmer M. Weaver, 99, of Ephrata, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at Mt. Hope Nazarene Retirement Community in Manheim.

He was born in Murrell to the late Rueben B. and Lydia (Martin) Weaver.

He was a member of Grace Point Church of the Nazarene, Ephrata, and a lifetime member of Cobbs Hollow Hunting Club.

Wilmer was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He worked as a towmotor operator for New Holland Machine Company for many years prior to his retirement.

Wilmer is survived by a son: Ronald, husband of Elaine Weaver of Ephrata; a daughter: Shirley, wife of Kenneth Zell of Gretna Springs; five stepchildren; nine grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by first wife: Elizabeth F. (Zimmerman) Weaver; and second wife: Jane (Fisher) Weaver.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 10, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Grace Point Church of the Nazarene, 110 Durlach Road, Ephrata. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m., with Pastor Rocky Hambrick officiating. Interment will take place in the Memory Gardens Memorial Cemetery.

Thomas A. Lindauer, 77, Vietnam vet, Gilbert Assoc. analystAssociates, former EC Lions president

Thomas A. Lindauer, 77, formerly of Ephrata, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 31, 2019 at Covenant Healthcare Harrison in Saginaw, Mich.

The son the late James and Cecelia (Kowalczyk) Lindauer, he was born on May 5, 1941 in Bay City, Mich.

Tom served with the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam. He married the former Janice M. Bristol, and together they settled in Pennsylvania and raised their family. Tom went on to a long career as an architectural engineer analyst with Gilbert Associates, Inc. of Reading. He was a member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ephrata, and was an active member and past-president of the East Cocalico Lions Club.

Tom’s wife Janice passed away in 2007. He is survived by their two children: Kevin (Debra) Lindauer of Cary, Ill.; and Kendra Lindauer of Exeter; two grandchildren: Brady Lindauer and Jillian Lindauer; a sister: Mary Ann Pietryga of Bay City, Mich.; a brother-in-law: Howard Kneeshaw of Alpena, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.

Tom was also preceded in death by one brother and four sisters: James, Orpha, Betty, June and Patricia.

Services were held April 2 at Trahan Funeral Chapel, Bay City, Mich., with Fr. Thomas Kowalczyk presiding, followed by military honors conducted by the Bay County Veterans Council. The committal service was held April 5 in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Ephrata.

Leonard W. Martin, 79, owned L.W. Martin Truck Repair, outdoorsman, enjoyed mission trips

Leonard W. Martin, 79, of Ephrata, entered into his heavenly home surrounded by family Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at WellSpan York Hospital.

He was born in Terre Hill to the late Clarence E. and Lydia (Weaver) Martin, and was the husband of Annabel F. (Good) Martin, with whom he would have celebrated 57 years of marriage on April 7, 2019.

Leonard loved spending time with his family and was an active member of Hinkletown Mennonite Church. He was the owner/operator of L.W. Martin Truck Repair. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, was a member of the Buccaneer Hunting Club, enjoyed short-term mission trips, traveling, other cultures, and loved meeting new people.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: Daryl, husband of Tracy (Wright) Martin of Akron; Keith Martin of Rothsville; Cheryl, wife of Tim Pfautz of Ephrata; nine grandchildren: Tyler, husband of Kendra Martin; Cody, husband of Michelle Martin; Brittany Martin; Moriah, wife of Morgan Stauffer; Teagan, husband of Allie Pfautz; Alaysia Pfautz; Jadon Pfautz; Brasen Pfautz; Sheldon, wife of Devin Kaczynski; five great-granddaughters; six siblings: Leland, husband of Erma Martin; Louise, wife of Leon Kurtz; Eugene, husband of Marilyn Martin; Lois, wife of Lester Weaver; Larry Martin; and Lynn, husband of Iliana Martin.

Services were held April 8 at the Hinkletown Mennonite Church, Ephrata, with Pastor Glenn E. Sauder officiating. Interment took place in Hinkletown Mennonite Cemetery

Eleanor G. Pannebecker, 90, of Stevens, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2019, at her home.

She was born in West Cocalico Township to the late Phares and Lillie (Getz) Fasnacht, and was the wife of the late Alvin Pannebecker, who passed away in 1990.

Eleanor was a member of Mellingers Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stevens. During her working years, she was a seamstress for W.W. Moyer Company. She enjoyed playing cards, word search, crocheting, watching TV, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Eleanor is survived by a daughter: Brenda E. Sweigart of Fleetwood; three sons: Brian E., husband of Danielle (Roberts) Pannebecker of Newmanstown; Dennis L., husband of Vicki (Dissinger) Pannebecker of Stevens; Russell P., husband of Tammy (Latshaw) Pannebecker; 11 grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; 22 great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter: Carla Wingenroth; two sons-in-law: Robert Wingenroth, Robert Sweigart; and a sister: Bertha Fasnacht.

Services were held April 17 at Mellingers Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stevens, with Pastor Timothy L. Craven officiating. Interment took place in Mellingers Union Cemetery.

Margaret R. Eby, 83, R.N., MCC missionary, owned motel, personal care home, supported vets

Margaret R. Eby, 83, of Akron, died Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at her home.

Born in Farmington, Del.; she was a daughter of the late Eli and Lucy (Bender) Schrock. She celebrated 55 years of marriage to Roy Z. Eby. She is greatly loved and dearly missed.

Raised in Greenwood, Del., Margaret followed her mother’s footsteps in becoming a registered nurse. Upon her pinning, Margaret joined the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) and spent two years of service at Hôpital Albert Schweitzer, Deschapelles, Haiti. She returned to Philadelphia and worked in the emergency room of Jefferson Memorial Hospital. There, she met Roy, who shared an MCC experience, and they quickly married and began a family.

With early years in the city, they eventually moved to Lancaster County and purchased a motel and adjoining properties which Margaret ran and later converted into a personal care home for mentally ill. A pioneer in this industry, Margaret launched several additional homes and lead efforts that shaped industry regulations in the State of Pennsylvania and nationally. Her generosity and compassion for vulnerable individuals touched countless lives. In parallel, she lovingly raised her family on a historic active dairy farm in Paradise, Pennsylvania.

She was a faithful fiduciary to veterans and diligent manager of investments. Margaret was dedicated to schools for children in Haiti, El Salvador, and the Congo. She supported the University of Hawaii Matsunaga Institute of Peace, Center for Global Non-Killing, and numerous causes. Within Akron Mennonite Church, she led efforts to integrate refugees from the Congo.

Surviving in addition to her husband are four children: Denise (Abel) Konan of Honolulu, Hawaii; David (Amy Miller) Eby of Tokyo, Japan; Diane Eby of Greenwood, Del.; and Sarah Eby of Akron; four grandchildren: Alexander Eby, Joseph Konan, Roy Konan, and Payton Eby-Mast; six sisters and a brother: Betty Sharp, Cora Tennefoss, Anna Brenneman, Olive Mast, Wanda Kehl, Eli Truman Schrock, and Sarah Escaro and their families.

Preceding her in death is brother: Millard “Buddy” Schrock; and sister: Doris Schrock.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on May 4 at Akron Mennonite Church, 1311 Diamond St., Akron. Interment will be in the Paradise Mennonite Cemetery.

Alta B. Weaver, 102, ECH nurse education coordinator, director at Tanzanian nursing school

Alta B. Weaver, 102, of Lititz, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at Landis Homes.

Born on Aug. 23, 1916 in Blue Ball, she was the daughter of the late Amos W. and Anna (Burkholder) Weaver.

She was a member of Springville Mennonite Church since 1933.

Alta was a nurse education coordinator for Ephrata Community Hospital before she retired in 1982. After retirement she worked part-time at Audubon Villa, Lititz, and Lancaster Lung Association.

She graduated from West Reading Hospital School of Nursing in 1947, earned her Bachelors of Nursing from Wayne State University, Detroit, Mich., in 1953 and her Masters of Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania in 1965.

From 1954 to 1969, she worked in Tanzania under the Eastern Mennonite Mission. She instigated the founding of Shirati Nursing School, Tanzania, where she was director and instructor. She was then a nursing instructor for Eastern Mennonite College (now Eastern Mennonite University) in Harrisonburg, Va., and then at Neumann’s College, Aston.

Alta is survived by a sister: Lillian (Jason) Shaum; a brother: Amos B. Weaver; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters: Emma Zeiset, Lizzie Oberholtzer, Mabel, Anna Mary and Esther Weaver.

Services were held April 15 Springville Mennonite Church, Ephrata. Interment was in the adjoining church cemetery. Kindly omit flowers.

Ray Willier Sheaffer, 92, WWII vet, Army band member, Cloisterdale owner, married 71 years

Ray Willier Sheaffer, 92, of Ephrata, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2019, at home.

He was born in Lancaster to the late Wilbur H. Sheaffer and Gladys M. (Willier) Sheaffer Norton, and was the husband of Dorothy J. (Baringer) Sheaffer, with whom he celebrated 71 years of marriage on Jan. 30, 2019.

Ray inherited LM Sheaffer Cloisterdale Farms when his father passed away, which he expanded to be the world’s largest completely automated egg production farm in the early 1970s. He was responsible for egg production, processing, packaging, and distribution.

Ray was a graduate of the Hill School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He also played tenor and alto saxophone in the Army Band. He was a 32nd degree Mason of the Ephrata Blue Lodge #665 F. & A.M., serving from 1948-2018.

He and Dorothy enjoyed traveling throughout the world and in the U.S. and Canada in their 1977 Airstream Trailer.

In addition to his wife, Ray is survived by three children: Sylvia J. Sheaffer of Lancaster; Ray W. Sheaffer, husband of Mary of Naples, Fla.; Stephen C. Sheaffer of North Palm Beach, Fla.; a grandson: Ray Daniel Sheaffer; and a sister: Carol A. Mather.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Daniel B. Sheaffer.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 27, at 1:30 p.m. at the Stradling Funeral Home, 201 Church Ave., Ephrata, with Donna Nace officiating. Interment will be private in Bergstrasse Lutheran Cemetery.

Lewis S. Martin, 83, of Ephrata, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2019, at Fairmount Homes.

He was born in West Earl Township to the late Mahlon W. and Vera K. (Sensenig) Martin.

Lewis was a member of Denver Mennonite Church, Eastern Conference. He had worked at Tyson Foods and Victor F. Weaver.

He is survived by five siblings: Miram Oberholtzer of Missouri; Laura, wife of LeRoy Martin of Ephrata; Mahlon S. Martin of Manheim; Mervin, husband of Ruth Martin of Lititz; Lawrence, husband of Marian Jane Martin of Ephrata; a sister-in-law: Mary Jane Martin of Ephrata; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Vernon Martin; a brother-in-law: LeRoy Oberholtzer; and a sister-in-law: Erma Martin.

Services were held April 17 at Denver Mennonite Church, with Bishop Harold Good officiating. Interment took place in Meadow Valley Mennonite Church Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers.

Carmen Lenten Kehler, 85, worked for Acme Markets, D&E, enjoyed family Fenwick Island trips

Carmen Lenten Kehler, 85, of Ephrata, passed away on Friday April 5, 2019 at Hospice & Community Care in Mount Joy.

He was born on Oct. 27, 1933 in Pitman to the late Lawrence and Eva (Snyder) Kehler.

Carmen attended a one-room school in Pitman through the eighth grade. He left school to help on the family farm and drove a market truck selling fruits and vegetables from the farm and drove a market truck selling cuts of meat for a local butcher shop. Carmen worked as a meat cutter almost his entire working career and retired from Acme Markets. After retiring from Acme, he worked part-time for D & E Telephone and Zimmerman’s Auto Body & Supply.

Carmen enjoyed going hunting and fishing with his sons and especially enjoyed family holidays with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The annual trek to Fenwick Island, Del., with all his children and grandchildren was also very special to him. Carmen was a member of Family Circle.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years: Ethel (Fertig); sons: Steven (Beth) of York, David, (Barb) of Lititz; a daughter: Brenda (Bryan) Redcay of Ephrata; 11 grandchildren: Jessica (Randy) Grove, Andrea (Michael) Root, Erica (Robert) Cucinella, Joshua Kehler, Brett Kehler, Eric (Lea) Kehler, Angela Kehler, Wesley Kehler, Brianna Redcay, Blake Redcay and Brandon Redcay; eight great-grandchildren: Vivian, Connor, Faith, Kira, Daniel, Benjamin, Scarlett, Alexander; and a sister: Norma Adams.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Randy; and a granddaughter: Laura Kehler.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Hospice & Community Care for the wonderful and loving care they gave to Carmen

Services were held April 16 at the Donecker Chapel at Ephrata Manor, with Chaplain Ed Dickel officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Diane M. Horst, 68, of Akron, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2019.

She was the wife of the late I. Robert “Doc” Horst Jr., who passed away in 2016. Born in Ephrata, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Elsie Martin Schoenberger.

Diane had worked in the offices of Wayne Gehret Stamps of Ephrata for many years. She had also worked in years past as the Ephrata VFW and Hestco Sewing Factory in Ephrata.

She enjoyed bingo, going to casinos, and shopping. She loved all animals, and was a loving, generous, and caring person.

Diane is survived by her son: Michael L., married to Lacey Ruth of Bergen, N.Y.; her granddaughters: Brooke Ruth of Lititz, and Brittany Ruth of Lancaster; her great-grandchildren: Trey Bowers, Maysen Wenger, Jaxton Whitmyer, and Elliot Ruth. She is also survived by her siblings: Linda, Ricky, David, and Pat; and by nieces and nephews that she loved very much.

She was preceded in death by her brothers: Gary and Eugene.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Diane’s celebration of life gathering on Sunday Aug. 25, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Foxchase Golf Club, 300 Stevens Road, Stevens.

Russell S. Fink Jr., 76, of Ephrata, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2019 at Lancaster General Hospital.

Born and raised in Lancaster, he was the son of the late, Russell and Whelma Jane (Seiders) Fink. He was reunited with his loving wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Fink, who passed away Dec. 11, 2018.

Russell was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Navy, and sharing of his experiences on the aircraft carrier the U.S.S. Intrepid. When he returned from the service, he became an outdoorsman, most fond of fishing, hunting and going to the beach. He was a member of American Legion Post 34.

He is survived by his loving daughters: Theresa, wife of Frank Castrenze; and Pamela E. Fink, both of Lancaster; a sister: Donna Engle of Manheim; brothers: Eric, Rob and Byron of Ohio; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; beautiful wife: Betty; his sister: Sharon K. Shaffer; and his brother: Gary Fink.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Dorothy M. Musser, 93, of Ephrata, formerly of East Earl, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at Keystone Villa, Ephrata.

Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late John and Amelia (Kowalska) Buniski. Her husband, Eugene W. Musser, died in 1993.

Dorothy was a homemaker and a member of St. John Center Lutheran Church. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting.

Surviving are three children: Sharlene D. (Jere) Gebhart of Auburn, K. Michael (Dottie) Musser of Ephrata, and Brenda L. Hagerich (fiancée of Randy Hertzog) of Ephrata; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother: Ronald (Nancy) Buniski of Mohnton.

Preceding her in death is a son: Brent E. Musser; a brother: John Buniski; and three sisters: Amelia Horning, Marlene Musser, and Betty Martin.

Funeral services were held April 16 at Eckenroth Home for Funerals, Terre Hill. Interment was in the Center Union Cemetery.
