Lillian F. Zaun, 85, DNB worker, chaplain, active in community, faith groups, sang in choir

Lillian F. (Fitterling) Zaun, 85, of Adamstown passed away Friday, March 8, 2019 at the Ephrata Hospital with family by her side.

Married for 65 years, she was the loving wife of Carlyle G. Zaun. Born in Swartzville, she was a daughter of the late Elmer and Minnie (Good) Fitterling.

Lillian was a graduate of Wilson High School, class of 1951, and worked as a part-time banker from 1964 to 1975 at the former Denver National Bank. She was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Adamstown, and sang in the choir. Lillian was very active in community and faith groups such as the Cocalico Area Christian Woman’s Club where she served as chaplain, the treasurer and chaplain of the Hilltoppers, former choir member of Trinity Lutheran in Gouglersville, and she enjoyed meeting with her Wilson High classmates every other month. Lillian loved her Sheltie companions, and having a tidy home was important to her. Most of all she loved her family and had a special relationship with each of her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Lillian is survived by her daughter: Debra A. (Frank) Bottenfield of Reinholds; and son: Michael S. (Donna) Zaun of Adamstown; three grandchildren: Jonathan (Danielle) Zaun, Derek (Sylvia) Simpson, and Megan (Ryan) Herr; four great-grandchildren: Reilly, Hadley, Macy, and Harrison; and brother: Marvin Fitterling of Ephrata.

She was predeceased by four siblings: Harry Fitterling, Earl Fitterling, Eleanor Hatt, and Arlene Burkholder.

A celebration of Lillian’s life was held March 13 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Adamstown officiated by Reverend Sandra Gideon.

Clyde Wingenroth, 89, Korea vet, Boose Aluminum worker, K-Mart greeter, fan of country music

Clyde Wingenroth, 89, of Ephrata passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital.

He was the husband of the late Marjorie Ann (Youse) Wingenroth, who died in 1992. Born in Reamstown, Clyde was the son of the late Isaac B. and Gertie M. (Frecht) Wingenroth.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1951, a Korean War Veteran. Clyde worked at the Boose Aluminum Foundry in Reamstown for 44 years. He was hardworking, quiet and laid-back and enjoyed listening to country music. He was a former member of the Salem E. & R. Church. From 1993 to 2005 he enjoyed his part-time job as a greeter at the Ephrata K-Mart.

Clyde is survived by his daughter: Debra L. Angle of Reamstown; three stepchildren: Allen E. Carpenter of Fairbanks, Alaska; Bruce W. (Jamie) Carpenter of Reamstown; and Carol A. (Carl) Haberman of Denver; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and his sister: Patricia (Nevin) McQuate of Denver.

He was predeceased by sisters: Mildred Wingenroth, Alma Summers, Anetta Lefever, Betty Wingenroth, Beatrice Gechter, and Irma McCarty; three brothers: Marvin Wingenroth, Carl Wingenroth, and Wilbur Wingenroth; and a son-in-law: Miller Angle.

Services were held March 9 at Good Sipler Funeral & Cremation Centre, Reamstown. Interment followed at Salem Union Cemetery.

Deaths of Local Interest – March 13, 2019

Marilyn L. Banack, 72, of Lititz, passed away on March 5. Marilyn was a devoted mother and grandmother, an exceptional homemaker, and enjoyed gardening. She was a 1964 graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School. She worked at Kissel Hill Elementary School, Glassmyer’s, and at the Brickerville Snackette. Her brother, Randy Roth, husband of Kim, lives in Denver.

Elsie G. Bauman, 65, of Manheim passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on March 9. She was a member of White Oak Mennonite Church, Manheim. A son, Raymond J., husband of Ronalda (Gehman) Bauman, lives in Denver. Her brother-in-law, E. Clair Hostetter, resides in Ephrata.

Lester L. “Pappy” Brumbach, 83, of Lancaster, and formerly of Manheim, died peacefully at home on March 4. For over 48 years Lester worked faithfully at Fenner Drives, Manheim. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army. Lester was an active member of Chiques United Methodist Church. He had a real passion for cooking on the grill. A sister, Verna Munden, resides in Ephrata.

Sara A. (Moyer) Detweiler, 97, of Fairmount Homes, formerly of Souderton, went to be with the Lord on March 11. She was the wife of the late Willis G. Detweiler for 50 years.

Eva M. Martin, 90, died March 10 at Fairmount Homes, after a brief illness. Eva worked in the produce department at Shady Maple Farm Market until her retirement in 2006. She was a member of Weaverland Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference. Surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a brother-in-law, Leroy Burkholder of East Earl.

Ian Yale Shannon, 31, was murdered March 6 in his home in Lancaster by a close friend. Ian attended school in the Warwick School District through the 8th grade, from there Ian enrolled at The Christa McAuliffe Academy in Washington State. He graduated at the age of 16. He went on to work as an IT manager for Jay R. Reynolds of Willow Street, where he was currently employed. He is survived by his parents, James A. and Susan M. Armer Shannon, Ephrata.

Alfred James Stauffer, 80, cabinet maker, co-managed family fruit farm, was ECC member, gospel fan

Alfred James Stauffer, 80, of Lititz, passed away from complications of Alzheimer’s on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Ephrata Manor.

He was married 54 years to Ruth Ann Leaman Stauffer. Born in Brecknock Township, he was the son of the late Aaron O. and Mary G. Musser Stauffer.

Al’s work experience included cabinet making at Rutt Custom Kitchens and Premier Custom Built; overseeing custodial, maintenance and “Helps” departments at the Worship Center; and co-managing his family’s fruit farm with his cousin David Musser.

Al was a member of the Ephrata Community Church. He enjoyed gospel music, reading, and was an avid weather watcher. Except for the last several weeks of his Alzheimer’s journey, he maintained his precious sense of humor and a clear joyful faith.

Surviving besides his wife are these children and grandchildren: Lavon, married to Moye West Stauffer, and their sons, Preston, Grant and Carson of Lititz; Bob, married to Krista Showalter Stauffer, and their daughters, Alexandra and Ella of Mount Joy; a grandson: Ethan Davis of Lititz (son of Al’s late daughter Jan); and Marilyn, wife of Ben Turner and their children, Aaron, Lily, and Jack of Lititz. Also surviving are two sisters: Mary Jane, wife of Charles Rutter of Lancaster; and Lois, wife of Harvey Thiessen of Hesston, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by half sisters: Eva Fox, Elizabeth Burkhart, Verna Musser and Katie Stauffer; and half brothers: Jack Stauffer and Enos Stauffer.

A memorial service was held March 10 at the Ephrata Community Church, with the Rev. Matt Swords officiating. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family in the Bowmansville Mennonite Cemetery.

Eleanor Forbes Baker, 93, formerly of Ephrata, Armstrong worker, RCA retiree, mother of three

Eleanor Forbes Baker, 93, passed March 7, 2019 at Moravian Manor, Lititz.

Born Oct. 10, 1925 in Shamokin, Eleanor moved to Lancaster County during World War II to work in support of the war effort at Armstrong in Lancaster. She was married to the late Edwin C. Baker and raised her family in Ephrata, moving to Akron in later years. Eleanor was retired from RCA after 32 years of service.

She is survived by her son: Thomas E. Baker, married to Johnnye Sue Miller of Newark, Del.; her daughter, Patricia A. Baker of Reading; two granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son: Robert E. Baker, husband of Janet Eshleman; and a grandson.

Services will be private.

Ivan Henry Stricker Sr., 72, landscaper, scrap metal hauler, enjoyed hunting, restoring old trucks

Ivan Henry Stricker Sr., 72, of Reinholds, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2019, at home.

He was born in Denver to the late Raymond and Elizabeth (Getz) Stricker, and was the husband of Bertha Marie (Trimble) Stricker, with whom he shared 51 years of marriage.

He attended Dove Fellowship in Ephrata. He enjoyed hunting, helping his son restore old trucks, and spending time with family. Ivan worked as a landscaper for Stanley Hess and was a self-employed scrap metal hauler.

In addition to his wife, Ivan is survived by four children: Theresa, wife of Gary Werner of Newmanstown; Cindy, wife of Bryan Shaver of Reinholds; Ivan Jr., husband of Stacey (Hainley) Stricker of Lititz; and Scott L, husband of Valerie (Ingram) Stricker of Stevens; eight grandchildren: Scott Stricker Jr., Tamara and Sara Werner, Austin Shaver, Allen Stricker, Carrie Stricker, Mark E. Wolf Jr., and Kayla L. Wolf; a great-grandson: Axel James Wolf; a sister: Charlotte, wife of James Chambers of Quarryville; and a brother: Kenneth Stricker of Denver.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter: Dotty Lynn, wife of Mark Wolf; four brothers: Chester, Lester, Edwin and Jakey Stricker; and two sisters: Hattie Chambers and Ida Rudy.

Services were held March 11 at Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, Denver, with LeMarr Sensenig officiating. Interment took place in the Swamp Cemetery.

Nora S. Hurst, 96, of Ephrata, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2019, at Wheatridge-Fairmount Homes.

Formerly of Cocalico, she was the wife of the late Raymond W. Hurst. Nora was born in West Earl Township to the late Enos and Fannie (Snyder) Weaver

A homemaker, she was a member of Springville Mennonite Church.

Nora is survived by two sons: Richard (Mary) Hurst of Newmanstown, Earl (Irene) Hurst of Newmanstown; two daughters: Janie (David) Martin of Lititz, Janet (Leroy) Sauder of Lebanon; a daughter-in-law: Jerilyn Hurst of Schoeneck; 17 grandchildren; 88 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren: 13 step-great-grandchildren; and three siblings: Etta (Edwin) Horning, Aaron (Martha) Weaver, Esther (Samuel) Horst.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son: Glenn Nelson Hurst; an infant daughter; a son-in-law: Daniel Gehman; two grandchildren: Jonathan and Ardell; several great-grandchildren; and six siblings: Lizzie (Eli) Wenger, Mary (Amory) Hoover, Anna (Ivan) Nolt, Mabel (Michael) Horning, Raymond (Thelma) Weaver and Joseph Weaver.

Jeffrey Allen Knapp, 77, Vietnam vet, taught social studies at EHS, animal lover, avid Phillies fan

Jeffrey A. Knapp, 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019, in his Blandon home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born Nov. 11, 1941, in Reading, Jeff was a son of the late Allen and Helen (Keppley) Knapp. He was the loving husband of Karen L. (Stauffer) Knapp.

Jeff was a 1959 graduate of Wyomissing High School, where he excelled in basketball and baseball. He then joined the Army, serving proudly during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge from the service, Jeff earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Kutztown University.

He was a longtime social studies teacher at Ephrata High School, where he was passionate about his students, constantly reading to make sure he kept them well-educated on current events, both here in the U.S., and worldwide.

Although he lived most of his life in Berks County, Jeff and Karen moved to Wellsboro for just over seven years, where they relished the quiet lifestyle of that historic village. They rode horseback through the mountains of Tioga County and enjoyed the history surrounding this quaint town and the nearby “Pennsylvania Grand Canyon.”

Jeff was a passionate Phillies fan, holding season tickets to the Reading Phillies for 18 years, and frequently making the trek to Philadelphia to cheer on the “Big Phillies.” He also loved animals of every kind, especially his furry companions: Bandit, his dog; and Sami, his cat.

In addition to his wife, Jeff is survived by his son, Jeffrey Jr., Boynton Beach, Fla.; daughter: Julie, wife of Chris Peckham, Reading; stepsons: Alan and Eric Snyder; and stepdaughters: Robin Carter and Kristen Stup. Also surviving is a brother: Albert, husband of Toshiko, of Fairbanks, Alaska.

Services for Jeff will be private at the convenience of his family.

Ella Mae Pannebecker, 86, worked at Moyers, C & B Trim, Phils fan, enjoyed time with family

Ella Mae Pannebecker, 86, of Stevens, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2019, at Masonic Villages of Elizabethtown.

She was born in Ephrata to the late Elmer and Lucy (Zerbe) Fasnacht, and was the wife of the late Earl J. Pannebecker who passed away in 1993.

Ella Mae was a member of Mellingers Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stevens. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was an avid Phillies and sports fan. She was a textile worker for Moyers and C & B Trim.

Ella Mae is survived by a son: Travis, husband of Donna Pannebecker of Denver; three daughters: Patricia, wife of James Cox of Milford, Del.; Deborah, wife of Eric Fichthorn of Denver; and Candy, wife of Fred High of Narvon; two daughters-in-law: Jean and Jeanna Pannebecker; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons: Timothy and Thomas Pannebecker.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 14, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Mellingers Evangelical Lutheran Church, 80 Gockley Road, Stevens. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., with Pastor Timothy L. Craven officiating. Interment will take place in the Mellingers Union Cemetery.

Teri Michelle Shotzberger, 54, of Stevens, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2019, at Hershey Medical Center.

She was born in Ephrata to Marvin and Joanne (Lesher) Loose, of Ephrata, and was the wife of Ted Shotzberger, with whom she shared 30 years of marriage.

A homemaker and 1983 graduate of Warwick High School, she was a member of Lititz Church of the Brethren. Teri previously worked for Royer Pharmacy, Spill Cafe and Lancaster Specialty Market. She loved cooking for others and spending time with her granddaughter. She enjoyed finding new rail trails to ride with Ted, and vacationing with her family in the Outer Banks. She also enjoyed listening to old time mystery radio shows.

In addition to her husband and parents, Teri is survived by two daughters: Tailor, wife of Max Sweigart of Reinholds; Torey Shotzberger, fiancé of Derrick Smith of Ephrata; a granddaughter: Riley Sweigart; and three sisters: Tirzah Loose-Bollinger, wife of Dean Bollinger of Lititz; Pam McCune of Lititz; Tema, wife of Jeff Zerbe of Lititz.

She was preceded in death by a sister: Tyelisa Young, the late wife of Anthony Young of Peterstown, W.Va.

Services were held March 9 at Lititz Church of the Brethren, followed by a memorial service, with Pastor Eric Landram officiating. Interment took place in the adjoining church memorial garden.

Shawntel Lynn Hoover, 26, Cocalico grad, worked at Piazza Honda, enjoyed outdoors, animal lover

Shawntel Lynn Hoover, 26, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2019.

She was the daughter of Jeff and Diane (Martin) Hoover, of Denver.

Shawntel worked in sales for Piazza Honda, Reading. She was a graduate of Cocalico High School, class of 2011 and received her Veterinary Technician Certification from Lancaster CTC. She loved all animals, especially her two dogs. She enjoyed the outdoors, crafts and knitting.

In addition to her parents, Shawntel is survived by three brothers: Justin, Zach and Joshua Hoover, all of Denver; maternal grandparents: Harold and Lydia Martin of Stevens; and paternal grandfather: Raymond M. Hoover Sr. of Ephrata.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother: Gladys Hoover.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 15, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Hinkletown Mennonite Church, 2031 28th Division Highway, Ephrata. An additional visitation will be held on Saturday, March 16, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church, followed by memorial services at 10 a.m. with Pastor Glenn Sauder officiating. Interment will be private in the Hinkletown Mennonite Cemetery.

Dorothy Jane Miller, 77, Ephrata Manor CNA, Mission of Love member, enjoyed dinner theater

Dorothy Jane Miller, 77, of Ephrata, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital.

She was born in Lancaster County to the late William I. and Edna (Sweigart) Heilinger, and was the wife of the late Lester Harold Miller, who passed away in June of 2018.

Dorothy was a member of Mission of Love Church in Akron. She was very personable and enjoyed playing the piano, sewing, cooking, attending dinner theater, socializing with family and friends, and attending Sight and Sound productions. Prior to retirement, she worked for 13 years as a certified nursing assistant for Ephrata Manor.

Dorothy is survived by three children: James C. Martin of Ephrata; Jewel R. Poysher of Ephrata; and Tammy L., wife of David Mollenkopf of Millerton; seven grandchildren: Paul Martin, Harley Martin, Melvin F. Gainer III, Christopher Bedford, Amanda Smith, Heather Poysher, and Zeth Robert Martin; 13 great-grandchildren: Sharrona Gerth, Riddick Martin, Christina Martin, Abigail Martin, Blaine Bedford, Caleb Bedford, Isaiah Bedford, Isabella Bedford, Kobe Smith, Kamille Smith, Selena Horvath, Dillan Halerz, and Anyia Halerz; a brother: William Heilinger Jr., husband of Frances of Ephrata; three sisters: Pearl Zimmerman of Caernarvon Township, Roseanna Grey of Mohnton, and Kathi Runk of Forest Hills.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons: Tony Curtis Martin and Robert Curtis Martin; a sister: Fay Buckholder; and three infant siblings.

Services were held March 16 at Stradling Funeral Home, Akron, with Pastor Roger Hornberger officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Clayton S. Bowman, 97, Ephrata, Sensenig’s Feed Mill retiree, enjoyed gardening, was married 72 years

Clayton S. Bowman, 97, of Ephrata, died Monday, March 11, 2019 at Fairmount Homes.

Born in East Earl, he was the son of the late Henry and Emma Snader Bowman. He was married 72 years to the late Mabel Ruhl Bowman, who died in 2017.

Clayton retired from Sensenig’s Feed Mill in New Holland, formerly Earl Sauder’s Feed Mill where he had worked for 33 years. He was a member of Mellinger Mennonite Church. He enjoyed gardening and working in his yard.

Surviving are four children: Robert C., married to Sandra (Pickel) Bowman of Lititz; Joanne R., married to Harold Good of Anderson, S.C.; Joyce E., married to William Parks of Harrisburg; and Kenneth E. Bowman of Bird-in-Hand; seven grandsons; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister: Elva Martin; and by brothers: Ivan, Walter, Raymond, Henry, Aaron and Edwin Bowman.

Funeral services were held March 15 at Mellinger Mennonite Church, Lancaster. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery.

Fay D. Lorah, 85, local store, antique shops worker, enjoyed spending time with family

Fay D. Lorah, 85, formerly of Denver and Adamstown, passed away March 16, 2019, at Fairmount Homes, Ephrata.

She was the wife of the late Warren L. Lorah who passed away in April 2009. Fay was the daughter of the late Gilbert S. and Susan G. Althouse.

Fay most enjoyed spending time with her family. In earlier years she worked in stores and antique shops in the area.

She is survived by two sons: Craig Lorah (Adlai Binger) of Adamstown, and Dr. Kevin (Diane Crider) Lorah of Hummelstown; four grandchildren: Michael Lorah, Daniel Lorah, Christy (Alex) Vocature, and Karina Lorah; and great-granddaughter: Jordyn Marie Vocature.

Honoring Fay’s wishes, there will be no services.

She was loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the staff of Fairmount Homes for the love, care, and support they showed to Fay over the past four years.

John “Poppy” Moyer, 71, gained his heavenly wings March 15. Poppy’s favorite thing to do was to spend time with his dog, Sweetie. He enjoyed muscle cars, NASCAR, woodworking, entertaining his family with riveting stories of his speed demon antics performed in his youth, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed helping with activities at Lititz UM church. Poppy will be missed by all who knew him. A daughter, Sandra Snyder, fiancée of Michael Schannauer, lives in Denver.

Donna Jean Von Nieda, 65, Coldwell Banker agent, enjoyed the beach, time with grandchildren

Donna Jean Von Nieda, 65, of Ephrata, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at home.

She was born in Lancaster to Donald G. and the late Shirley A. (Kilefner) Royer, and was the wife of the late Thomas L. Von Nieda, who passed away in 2011.

Donna was a real estate agent for Coldwell Banker. She enjoyed going to the beach, visiting the cabin in the mountains and spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her father, Donna is survived a son: Matthew John Scheaffer of Hanover; a daughter: Heather Martz of Jonestown; five grandchildren: Matthew and Mackenzie Scheaffer; Austin, Tommy, and Brady Loose; and a sister: Dianne, wife of Dennis Leeking of Lititz.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Norman S. Eckert, 96, WWII vet, Sperry NH worker, was married 75 years, enjoyed cars, Phils

Norman S. Eckert, 96, of Lititz, formerly of Akron, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at Luther Acres.

Born in Brickerville, he was the son of the late Anna Strauss and was raised by the Strauss family. He was the husband of the late Fern D. (Moyer) Eckert, with whom he shared 75 years of marriage before her passing in 2017.

He was a member of Brickerville United Lutheran Church, Akron Lions Club, and a lifelong member of Lititz Post #1463 V.F.W. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II.

Norman worked for the former Sperry New Holland. He enjoyed antique cars and attending car shows. He also enjoyed watching golf, playing board games like Parcheesi and Pinochle and was an avid Phillies fan.

Norman is survived by a brother: Robert Steffy of Lititz; and nieces and nephews: Deb Young, Gary Steffy, Dan Strauss, Janice Burkholder, Nicki Strauss, and Beth Strauss.

In addition to his wife and mother, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Raymond and Lester Steffy; and two nephews: Bill Strauss and Tom Strauss.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 21, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Brickerville United Lutheran Church, 340 East 28th Division Highway, Lititz, followed by funeral services 11 a.m., with Pastor Scott D. Davis officiating. Interment will take place in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Red Rose Veteran Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions in Norman’s memory may be made to Brickerville United Lutheran Church, 340 East 28th Division Highway, Lititz, PA, 17543.

Dana L. Funk, 51, of Lemoyne, formerly of the Ephrata area, passed away at home on Monday, March 11, 2019 after a long illness.

Dana was a Cocalico High School graduate and worked as a waitress and bartender. She enjoyed taking motorcycle rides, flower gardening, and antiquing. She loved socializing with friends, singing tunes and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter: Rikki Anderson of Ephrata; grandchildren: Kiya and Zavian; parents: James and Prudence (Tetrick) Funk of Longwood, Fla.; siblings: James Funk II, and Stacey (Funk) Jackson, wife of Chris, also of Longwood, Fla.; a nephew: Cooper Jackson; her companion: Jerry Keens of Lemoyne; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Dana was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents: Margaret and Frank Funk of Dundalk, Md.; and maternal grandparents: John and Ruth Tetrick of Bel Air, Md.

A memorial will be held at the Ephrata Amvets Post 136, 614 S. State St., Ephrata, on March 23 at 4 p.m.; and at the Church of the Resurrection, 700 Anchor Drive, Joppa, Md., on March 29 at noon. All are welcome at both.

Margaret “Maggie” M. McEvoy, 92, of Ephrata, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2019 at Hospice & Community Care in Mount Joy.

Born in Red Run, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Anna (Pierce) Brendle. She lived in the Ephrata area all her life, attended Red Run High School, and was the wife of the late Kenneth H. McEvoy, who died in 1989.

Maggie was a faithful member of the Reamstown Church of God. She enjoyed the Lititz Senior Center, playing bingo, adult coloring books, going away with her friends, and shopping. She was known for her strong Pennsylvania Dutch accent and manner.

Maggie is survived by a daughter: Shirley L. Gerlach (Martin E.) of Ephrata; two stepsons: Kenneth McEvoy Jr. (Cindy) of Ephrata, and Robert McEvoy (Mary) of Mount Joy; eight grandchildren: Darryl, Dedra, Robert Jr., Michelle, Megan, Julie, Todd, and Lisa; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by five siblings: Howard Jr., Walter, Mary, Bill, and Joyce.

A viewing will be held Friday, March 22, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 23, from 10 to 11 a.m. The service will begin at 11 a.m., all at the Reamstown Church of God, 400 Pfautz Hill Road, Stevens. Interment will be in Muddy Creek Cemetery, Denver.

J. Robert Peifer, 84, was Cloister Tax Services founder, volunteer leader, served his country

J. Robert Peifer, 84, of Akron passed away on March 13, 2019, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Bob was the loving husband of his spouse of 63 years, Helen Stoesz Peifer; the supportive father of three sons: Bruce (Joyce) of Dunlap, Ill.; Karl (Yvonne) Peifer of Ephrata; and Joseph (Marinella Troxler) of Lancaster. He was the proud grandfather of: Josh Peifer (Chelsie) of St. Louis, Mo.; Katelyn McQuate (Timothy) of Akron; and Zach Peifer of Ephrata.

Bob graduated from Donegal High School and Goshen College in Goshen, Ind. He served his country during the Korean War by performing two years of alternative service at the hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Bob worked as manager of Manor Mutual Insurance Company, Lancaster; as president of the Pennsylvania Association of Mutual Insurance Companies, Lititz; and senior account executive at SCOR Reinsurance Company, Dallas, Texas. Most recently Bob and his son Joe were founders and partners, for nearly 30 years, of Cloister Tax Services of Akron.

Bob volunteered on the boards of ReUzit Stores, Friendship Community and Akron Mennonite Church, often as treasurer. His hobbies included traveling, golfing, genealogy, entertaining guests, birdwatching and refinishing furniture.

Preceding Bob in death were his parents: Norman and Alice Peifer of East Petersburg; and a brother: Larry Peifer of Manheim.

Surviving are his sister: Dorothy (Jim) Fricke of Lititz; two brothers: Donald (Alyce) Peifer of Valencia, Spain; and Jerry (Susan) Peifer of Marmora, N.J.; and a sister-in-law: Valerie Peifer of Manheim.

All are invited to a celebration of life service at Akron Mennonite Church, 1311 Diamond St., Akron on Saturday, March 23 at 11 a.m.
