Nancy C. Oswald, 85, architectural office manager, birdwatcher, enjoyed time with family

Nancy C. Oswald, 85, of New Holland, passed away on Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, at Maple Farm.

She was born in Berwick to the late John and Mary (Beaver) Naus, and was the wife of the late Kenneth J. Oswald, who passed away in 2007.

Nancy was a member of Reformed Presbyterian Church of Ephrata. She was an office manager at the architectural firm of Anderson Brown Higley & Funk, before retiring in 1992. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She also enjoyed gardening and birdwatching.

Nancy is survived by a son: Kevin J., husband of Betsy Oswald of Milton; a daughter: Karen J., wife of Donn Youndt of Ephrata; five grandchildren: Ashley, wife of Curtis Yeager; Benjamin Oswald; Sarah Youndt; Nathaniel, husband of Meridien Youndt; and Julianna Youndt.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers; Wayne and Jack Naus; and a sister: Doris Chapin.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Reformed Presbyterian Church, 21 E. Locust St., Ephrata, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m., with Pastor Tom Nicholas officiating. Interment will be at Old Zion German Reformed Church Cemetery.

Fern D. Eckert, 96, WWII med tech, owned Fern’s Beauty Shop, was teller at ENB

Fern D. Eckert, 96, of Lititz, formerly of Akron, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, at Luther Acres Manor.

She was born in Grill, Berks County, to the late George and Laura (Freeman) Moyer, and was the wife of Norman S. Eckert, with whom she shared 75 years of marriage.

She was a member of Brickerville United Lutheran Church.

Fern owned and operated Fern’s Beauty Shop and worked as a teller for Ephrata National Bank. She graduated from Shillington High School and was a veteran of World War II in the Army as a medical technician. Fern was a member of American Legion Cloister Post #429, Lititz Springs VFW Post #1463 and past president of Akron Lioness Club. She enjoyed country music and loved chocolate.

In addition to her husband, Fern is survived by two nephews: Kenneth Stout and George Moyer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Elsie and Esther.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 9, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Brickerville United Lutheran Church, 340 E. 28th Division Highway, Lititz followed by funeral services at 11 a.m., with Rev. Dr. Scott Davis officiating. Interment will take place in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Brickerville. Military honors will be accorded by the Red Rose Veteran Honor Guard.

Anna ‘Ann’ F. Wolf, 98, Vertie’s sales clerk, Golden Years member, enjoyed making Easter candy

Anna “Ann” F. Wolf, 98, of Ephrata, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of our heavenly father on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017, at Ephrata Manor.

She was born in Wyomissing to the late Lee and Emma (Kurtz) Arnold, and was the wife of the late Carl E. Wolf, who passed away in 1992. They were married for 56 years.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

Ann was a sales clerk for Vertie’s in Ephrata. She was a member of the Golden Years Club at the Ephrata Rec Center and a former member of the Ephrata Lioness Club. She enjoyed making Easter candy, knitting, embroidery, needlepoint, and word searches. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed the trips she took with the Golden Years Club, especially the Caribbean cruises.

Ann is survived by two daughters: Carol James (Jerry) of Glendale, Ore.; Fay J. (Ginger) Mills of St. George, Utah; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister: Marie Weidman.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Nov. 10, at 1 p.m., at Stradling Funeral Home, 201 Church Ave., Ephrata, with Pastor Henry E. Herbener officiating. Interment will take place in the Mount Zion Evangelical Cemetery, Akron.

Vincent ‘Skip’ Axe, 69, Air Force vet, USPS worker, LEFC member, basketball coach

Vincent “Skip” Axe, 69, of Lancaster, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017, at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy.

He was born in Lancaster to the late Herbert L. and Catherine P. (Ruth) Axe, and was the husband of Christine Anne (Smith) Axe, with whom he shared 48 years of marriage.

Skip was an active member of Lancaster Evangelical Free Church, where he served as a youth advisor, youth Sunday school teacher, and an elder. He had also served as a youth advisor and administrator at Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Akron.

He served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1968-1971. Skip worked for the US Postal Service in Akron, before retiring, then worked part time for many years at Stradling Funeral Homes as the property manager. Skip enjoyed coaching his grandchildren’s sports with his son, Ryan, and he also coached basketball at the high school level at Ephrata and Cocalico.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son: Ryan Jeffrey, husband of Jennifer Leigh (Werner) Axe of Landisville; and three grandchildren: Konnor, Brynn, and Caden.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Kurt Axe.

Services were held Nov. 11 at Lancaster Evangelical Free Church, Lititz, with Pastor Tony Hunt officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in Mount Zion Evangelical Cemetery, Akron.

James W. Miller, 90, Ephrata Manor resident, WWII vet, minister in the Salvation Army

Major James W. Miller, 90, of Ephrata, was “promoted to glory” on Friday, Nov, 3, 2017.

Born in Oil City to the late Coder and Florence Miller, he spent his entire life with The Salvation Army. He was ordained as a minister in The Salvation Army in 1948. He pastored at a number of locations in eastern Pennsylvania as well as other locations in the northeastern United States.

Prior to entering seminary, he served in the U.S. Army near the end of World War II and upon his discharge returned to Oil City High School to complete his education.

Jim married his life-long sweetheart, Marjorie, in November 1950, and they had four daughters. He and his wife retired in 1992 to Oil City, but later moved to the Lancaster area. In his last seven years, he was confined to the Ephrata Manor skilled nursing facility, but continued his life-long ministry to others by regularly counseling and praying with other patients.

James is survived by his wife: Marjorie; four daughters: Carol Helman, Diane Foss, Sharon Kelly and Susan Smith; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister: Mary Jean Irwin of Leesburg, Fla.

He was predeceased by his parents: three siblings: Ruth, Helen, and Harold; a son-in-law: Tom Helman and a grandchild, Jennifer Kelly.

A celebration of life services was held Nov. 11 at The Salvation Army, Lancaster. Interment will take place at a later date.

Deaths of Local Interest – Nov. 15, 2017

Jamie E. (Sweeney) Bryant, 75, of Elizabethtown, passed away Nov. 8 at the Hershey Medical Center. Jamie was a longtime member of the Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ Church. Early in her life, Jamie cared for others as a nurses’ aide at Mary Fletcher Hospital in Vermont. She then focused her attention on raising her children before returning to the nursing field as a visiting nurse. She considered herself a voracious reader and accumulated an extensive collection of angel figurines. A daughter, V. Grace Reinard, lives in Ephrata.

Robert “Bob” D. Ebersole, 92, of Lancaster, passed away Nov. 7 at Coatesville VAMC. Bob had retired from the former ITT Grinnell, Lancaster/Wrightsville. He was a proud, decorated U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Bob was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2435, Columbia, where he was former commander. His daughter, Byrne, married to Jeff Erb, lives in Denver.

Joseph G. Cramer, 75, of New Holland, passed away Nov. 7 at his home. Joe retired from C&D Technologies after working there for 33 years. Joe had a knack for sighting twisted branches and sticks that God created and handcrafted them into walking sticks and canes. He was a member of the American National Cane Club in Manheim. His son, Wesley D., husband of Tish Stauffer, lives in Reinholds.

Fred A. Fellenbaum, 87, formerly of East Petersburg, passed away Nov. 9 at Susquehanna Valley Nursing & Rehab Center. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, Fred put himself through an electrical engineering program, which he utilized in his T.V. repair business and later worked on pinball machines, video games, and jukeboxes. He retired from Playmor Music. Fred went on to open a business with his son, Scott, F&S Welding Race Karz & Components. He was a lifetime member of Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway. He was an avid racer where he drove in many classes, but his favorite was the #36 250-open class. He enjoyed attending dances at the Denver Fire Hall.

Harold R. Forry, 91, of Longwood Manor, Maytown, formerly of Mount Joy, went to be with his Lord Nov. 7. He was in poultry service for Pennfield Feeds retiring after 25 years, and also raised broilers for Pennfield. He was a member of the Community Bible Church, Marietta where he had served on the board. In his retirement, he drove a mini-bus for IU13. He and his wife enjoyed camping and traveling. His sister, Martha, married to Clyde High, lives in Akron.

Esta M. Hoffer, 91, of Manheim passed away peacefully at her granddaughter’s home on Nov. 11. In her earlier years, Esta worked at the former Noggles Garment Factory, Manheim. She also worked in the cafeteria at the Manheim Central High School and the former Manheim Garment Factory. Esta was a member of Ruhl’s United Methodist Church, Manheim where she attended Men’s and Ladies Bible class. She was also a charter member of the Manheim Lioness Club. Her sister, Elsie Armer, resides in Ephrata.

J. Clair Hollinger, 88, of Landis Homes, formerly of Lititz, went home to be with his Lord, on Nov. 8. A graduate of Eastern Mennonite Seminary, he served several congregations, including Vine Street Mennonite and Charlotte Street Mennonite churches in Lancaster; Ridgeway Mennonite Church, Harrisonburg, Va.; and Lititz Mennonite Church. Along with his wife, he served as a missionary in Trinidad. He taught industrial art at Lancaster Mennonite High School. He also served as a radio pastor for Moments of Glad Tidings. His brother-in-law, Willard Stauffer, resides in Ephrata.

Donald R. Torrence Sr., of Elizabethtown, passed away Nov. 10 in Dauphin County. He was a fan of not only pinochle, but also collecting coins. Donald loved NASCAR and the beauty of classic cars, along with being a loyal member of the timing club. Most importantly he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His son, Frederick A. Torrence, lives in Ephrata.

Erla G. Wise, 83, formerly of Bowmansville, died Nov. 5, at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital. She had worked at the former New Holland Farmers Bank and was a homemaker. She was a member of Pine Grove Church. An avid Phillies fan, she was a former member of the John Hepler Eastern Star, Reading and the Rajah Shriners Caravaners. Her sons, Brian S. married to Nancy (Martino) Wise, and Grant H. Wise, both live in Denver.

Miriam M Horning, 84, member of Springville Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference

Miriam M Horning, 84, of Ephrata, passed away on Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital.

She was born in Caernarvon Township to the late Charles and Emma M. (Martin) Horning.

Miriam was a member of Springville Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference.

She is survived by a brother-in-law: Martin Nolt of Ephrata; four nieces: Elaine, wife of Menno Miller of Grayson, Ky.; Lois, wife of Dennis Martin of Unionville, Mo.; Linda, wife of Vernon Hoover of Patriot, Ohio; Aletha, wife of Earl Sadler of Kansas, Ohio; a nephew: Clifford, husband of Carolyn H. Nolt of Kutztown; a nephew-in-law: Leon Leinbach of Kempton; 38 great-nieces and nephews; and 50 great-great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Lizzie Nolt and Martha M. Horning; and a niece: Nancy Leinbach.

A viewing will take place on Thursday, Nov. 16, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Lincoln Christian Home, 1307 Apple St., Ephrata. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 17, at Lincoln Christian Home, with further services at 9:30 a.m., from the Springville Mennonite Church, 580 Springville Road, Ephrata, with Bishop Melvin Martin officiating. Interment will take place in the adjoining church cemetery. Kindly omit flowers.

Pauline A. Ulrich, 92, F & M Hat Co. worker, enjoyed gardening, baking, and cooking

Pauline A. Ulrich, 92, of Reinholds, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at Fairmount Homes, Ephrata.

She was born in Adamstown to the late John R. and Cora (Marshall) Frederick, and was the wife of the late Paul N. Ulrich, who died in 1992.

Pauline was a member of the Ephrata Seventh Day Adventist Church. She had worked in the Carding Room at F & M Hat Company in Denver, and enjoyed gardening, baking, and cooking.

Pauline is survived by a son: Randall E. “Randy” Ulrich, husband of Deneace L. (Justice) of Reinholds; two grandsons: Ryan S. Ulrich, husband of Holly; and Mark D. Ulrich, husband of Dana; and five great-grandchildren: Zachery and Kevin Ulrich; Nicholas, Jenae, and Cohen Ulrich.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three siblings: Kathryn Rissler, John Frederick Jr., and Florence Adair.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 15, from 1 to 2 p.m., at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut St., Denver. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. Interment will take place in the Fairview Cemetery.

George E. Latshaw, 86, Paul S. Kauffman brick mason, outdoorsman, enjoyed NASCAR

George E. Latshaw, 86, of Reinholds, passed away Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital.

Born in West Cocalico Township, he was the son of the late Calvin and Minnie (Schware) Latshaw, and was the husband of the late Grace (Kreider) Latshaw, who passed away in 2011.

George was a member of St. Paul’s E.C. Church, Reamstown. He was a member of the Ephrata Blue Lodge #665 F.& A.M. and also a former Shriner. He had been employed as a brick mason for Paul S. Kauffman, Denver, and later did maintenance work for Latshaw Bros. Concrete, Denver, until his retirement. George enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and farming at his son’s property in Clearfield County. He was a NASCAR fan and loved his dog, Buster.

He is survived by five children: Larry, husband of Joan M. Latshaw of Sinking Spring; Deb, wife of Rodger Seiler of Denver; Eddie Latshaw, companion of Donna Fick of Schoeneck; Teresa, wife of Michael Brendle of Reinholds; David Latshaw of Wilmington, Del.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; six siblings: Arlene, wife of Harold Graybill of Denver; Grace, wife of Gilbert Nolt of Stevens; Roy, husband of Mary Latshaw of Ephrata; Calvin Latshaw Jr. of Denver; Emma Garner of Manheim; Lloyd, husband of Edith Latshaw of Vinemont; and a sister-in-law: Jane Latshaw of Schoeneck.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by a son: Richard Latshaw; and two brothers: John and Robert Latshaw.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 15, from 10 to 11 a.m., at St. Paul’s E.C. Church, 46 E. Church St., Reamstown, followed by his funeral service at 11 a.m., with Rev Kirk Marks officiating. Interment will take place in Mellinger’s Union Cemetery.

William J. Hartley, 74, father of four, Baer Distributors driver, enjoyed fishing, movies

William J. Hartley, 74, of Ephrata, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 12, 2017, at his residence.

He was born in Ephrata to the late William E. and Ruth (Miley) Hartley, and was the husband of Carmela (Buonomo) Hartley.

William was a truck driver for Jake Baer Distributors, and after retirement delivered The Shopping News. He was a graduate of McCaskey High School, Class of 1961. He enjoyed fishing, and watching TV and movies. He also loved rides in his car.

In addition to his wife, William is survived by four sons: William Hartley, John Ventolo, Michael Ventolo; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two brothers: Gary and Tom Hartley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son: Christopher.

Services will be private at the conveniences of the family.

Robert R. ‘Kuppy’ Kopp, 90, Korea vet, PennDOT driver, Reamstown AA steward, outdoorsman

Robert Richard “Kuppy” Kopp, 90, of Reinholds, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017, at Ephrata Manor.

He was born in Schoeneck to the late Robert and Minnie (Schannauer) Kopp, and was the husband of Doris Jean (Mittower) Pfrommer Kopp, with whom he shared 29 years of marriage.

He was a member of Swamp Evangelical Lutheran Church, Reinholds. He enjoyed trapshooting and hunting, and was a member of Cushon Peak Hunting Club, Adamstown Rod and Gun, Cocalico Sportsmen Club, Gouglersville Volunteer Fire Company, Reinholds VFW Post 6759, and Reamstown Athletic Association, where he was the steward and bartender for 20 years.

Robert was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean War. He worked as a truck driver for PennDOT prior to his retirement in 1987, and prior to that he was a milkman for Penn Dairies.

In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by four children: Daniel L. Kopp, husband of Carolyn (Martin) of Denver; Debra J., wife of Kerry Martin of Lititz; Robert Edward Kopp III of Denver; and Cheryl A., wife of Kenneth Zimmerman of Ephrata; four grandchildren: Christopher Martin; Michelle, wife of Robert Wegman; Jenna Martin; and Bryan Martin; a brother: Daniel, husband of Dolores Kopp of Stevens; two sisters: Joyce, wife of Carl Bollinger of Terre Hill; and Linda, wife of Glenn Beard of Denver; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother: Elmer Kopp; and three sisters: Ella Griffe, Helen Fasnacht, and infant Anna Mary.

Services were held Nov. 10 at Swamp Evangelical Lutheran Church, Reinholds, with Pastor Dennis L. Trout and Chaplain Glenn Beard officiating. Interment took place in the Swamp Cemetery. Veterans Honors were accorded by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard.

Dorothy Z. Mitchell, 86, of New Holland, formerly of Ephrata and Sarasota, Fla., passed away on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at Garden Spot Village.

She was born in Akron to the late Lester and Florence (Hummer) Zwally, and was the wife of Melvin S. Mitchell with whom she shared 67 years of marriage.

A homemaker, she was a member of Akron Church of the Brethren. She enjoyed golfing, gardening, and walking. She was an avid reader, and loved spending time at the with her family at the beach.

In addition to her husband, Dorothy is survived by three children: Deborah K. Ihde of Florida; Patricia A., wife of Jeffrey G. Good of New Holland; Michael L., husband of Karen (Peters) Mitchell of Lititz; six grandchildren: Jason Usner, Jeremy Good, Allison Irwin, Mitchell Good, Ryan Mitchell, Justin Mitchell; four great-grandchildren: Amelia and Chase Usner; Aura and River Good; and three sisters: Cleo Weaver of New Holland; Rhelda Mitchell of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and Zora Wall of Lititz.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five siblings: Jane Gerhard, Betty Mohler, Eugene “Sonny” Zwally, Erma Stauffer, and Darlene Dull.

A viewing will be held on Friday, Nov. 17, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Akron Church of the Brethren, 613 Main St., Akron, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m., with Pastor Tom Weber officiating. Interment will take place in the Middle Creek Brethren Cemetery.

A memorial service for residents and friends at Garden Spot Village will be held on Thursday, Nov. 16, at 2 p.m., at the Garden Spot Village Chapel, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, with Chaplain Chet Yoder officiating. Family will receive friends following the service. There will be no viewing.

Steven M. Brown Ph.D, 72, of Ephrata, died on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017, at The Gardens at Stevens.

He was born in Manhattan, N.Y., and grew up in Arlington, Va. He received his university degrees at The Johns Hopkins University, including a Ph.D in high-energy nuclear physics, and was a post-doctoral fellow at the Center for Theoretical Studies at the University of Miami, Fla.

His career was in industrial acoustical research: with Armstrong World Industries, in Lancaster; with Steelcase, in Grand Rapids, Mich.; and with Soundcoat, in Deer Park, N.Y., from which he retired in 2012. He was a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America and served on several standards committees within ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) and INCE (Institute of Noise Control Engineering).

In retirement in Ephrata, he enjoyed taking STEAM School, volunteering at Rough & Tumble in Kinzers, and ushering at the Fulton Theater. He was also an active member of the Baron Stiegel Lions Club, from which he received the Melvin Jones Award.

Steven in survived by his wife of 48 years: Carole (Swanson); and his children: Alycia (Jeff) Meyers and Daniel (Daniel Allen) Brown.

He was predeceased by his brother: Jeffrey.

Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Michael Brian Rutt, 39, Ephrata grad, Lockheed Martin software engineer, family was his top priority

Michael Brian Rutt, 39, of Oviedo, Fla., passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017.

Michael was dearly loved by his wife: Katherine (Pare) Rutt; their children: Preston, Meredith and Addison; and their two golden-doodles: Molly and Maggie. His wife and children were his entire world. He would do anything for them and enjoyed attending all events they were involved in. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle for him and his family was his number one priority.

Michael was born in Ephrata on Nov. 10, 1977, and was looking forward to celebrating his 40th birthday with family and friends. He graduated from Ephrata Senior High School and continued on to receive his bachelor’s degree in computer science from UMBC. He earned his master’s degree in software engineering from Penn State Great Valley. He was employed by Lockheed Martin as a software architect.

Family was everything to him. He was a devoted father, husband, son, and brother. His personality was contagious and he knew how to make you laugh in any situation. He loved Apple products and was always one of the first to own the newest device. He was an entrepreneur whose passion was to explore new avenues of the technology world.

Michael is also survived by his parents: Jeff and Cindy (Hummer) Rutt of Ephrata; and his two sisters: Karen (Rutt) wife of Ryan Martzall of Ephrata; and Amy (Rutt) wife of Kevin Martin of Lititz. In addition, he will also be lovingly remembered by his Nanny, aunts, nephews, cousin and many loyal family members and friends.

We will dearly miss our best friend and protector.

A celebration of life was held Nov. 14 at Ephrata Church of the Brethren, Ephrata, with Pastor Rob Eshelman officiating. Interment took place in the Lincoln Cemetery.

Melanie G. Sauder, 60, Eagle Rentals salesperson, enjoyed motorcycling, gardening

Melanie G. Sauder, 60, of Akron, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017, at home.

She was born in Lancaster to the late Robert and Kathleen L. (Patterson) Frymyer, and was the wife of Melvin E. Sauder Jr., with whom she shared nine years of marriage.

Melanie was a salesperson for the party division of Eagle Rentals. She was dedicated to her family. She loved gardening, motorcycle rides and reading.

In addition to her husband, Melanie is survived by two daughters: Renee M., wife of Stephen Zimmerman of Ephrata; Nicole J., wife of Ricky Tapias of York; a stepson: Gregory S. Sauder of Narvon; four grandchildren: McKenzie, Cohen, Joey, Brenna; a brother: Terry Frymyer of Ephrata; and two sisters: Diane, wife of Ted Stehman of Arnot; Deborah, wife of Dr. Theodore Croll of Doylestown.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a stepdaughter: Amanda Sauder.

A memorial service was held Nov. 20 at the Ephrata Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Rob Eshelman officiating. Interment was in the Memory Gardens Memorial Cemetery.

Noah M. Oberholtzer, 86, retired farmer, father of four, Meadow Valley Mennonite member

Noah M. Oberholtzer, 86, of Ephrata, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017, at his residence after a brief illness.

He was born in East Earl Township to the late Adam L. and Barbara W. (Martin) Oberholtzer. He was the husband of Verna N. (Hoover) Oberholtzer. His first wife, Vera M. (Zimmerman) Oberholtzer, passed away in 2005.

He was a member of Meadow Valley Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference, and was a retired farmer.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are two sons: Marlin Z., husband of Eva Mae (Zimmerman) Oberholtzer of Ephrata; Landis Z., husband of Amy (Newswanger) Oberholtzer of Nora Springs, Iowa; a daughter: Nancy Z., wife of Alvin M. Martin of Nora Springs, Iowa; a daughter-in-law: Brenda H. Martin, wife of Mark Young of Nottingham; 33 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; three brothers: David M., husband of Lucy M. (Horst) Oberholtzer of Lititz; Adam M., husband of Ella G. (Martin) Oberholtzer of East Earl; Leroy M., husband of Shirley A. (Longenecker) Oberholtzer of Manheim; and a sister: Barbara M. Weaver of Ephrata.

He was preceded in death by a son: Nelson; a grandson; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters; Anna M. Wenger, and Lena M. Martin.

Services were held Nov. 20 at Meadow Valley Mennonite Church, Ephrata, with Bishop Melvin Martin officiating. Interment followed in the adjoining church cemetery. Kindly omit flowers.

Clarence H. Burkholder, 69, of New Holland, died Nov. 14 at Ephrata Hospital. Clarence was a farmer most of his life and at the time of his death was employed by Shady Lane Wagons. He was a member of the Groffdale Mennonite Church, Groffdale Conference. His daughter, Karen, wife of E. Ray Zimmerman, lives in Ephrata. A brother, Harvey, husband of Ellen Burkholder, lives in Stevens.

Denis James Cogan, 68, of Lancaster, formerly of Bradenton, Fla., passed away Nov. 12. His sisters, Ellen Arms, wife of Wilmer, and Renee Brennan, companion of Joe Phipps, reside in Ephrata.

John Arthur Ingham Sr., 86, of Mt. Hope Nazarene Retirement Community, Manheim, passed away Nov. 17. John graduated from Philadelphia School of the Bible with a Certificate in Bible education. He was a quiet, polite and faithful man, with a love for camping, fishing, gardening, fixing things, and evangelizing. He was also a passionate Bible scholar and teacher with fond memories of ministry expended at Colwyn Baptist Church, Colwyn; Chester County Prison, West Chester; and the City Gate Mission of Coatesville. A daughter, Patricia Anne Adams, lives in Akron.

Robert C. Smith, 76, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully Nov. 17 at WellSpan Ephrata Community hospital after a long illness. Bob, also known to family and friends as “Turtle,” enjoyed cooking, impromptu parties by the pool, and grilling. He spent his time with his three fur babies, his dogs: Coal, Cooper and Molly. He loved gardening, collecting movies and music, as well as computers and finding the best coupons and deals around. A son, Craig R. Smith, resides in Akron.

Tyelisa A. Young, 47, of Peterstown, W.Va., formerly of Lititz, passed away on Nov. 12 at her parent’s home. She was a member of Lititz Church of the Brethren. Tyelisa was a pharmacy technician for Walmart in Pearisburg, Va. She enjoyed antiquing, quilting, crafts, old movies, and traveling. Her sister, Tirzah (Dean) Bollinger, lives in Rothsville. Her sister, Teri (Ted) Shotzberger, and niece, Torey, reside in Mount Airy. A niece, Tailor (Max) Sweigart, lives in Reinholds.

Lonnie Martin, 46, East Earl, truck driver, farmer, grandchildren were the light of his life

Lonnie Martin, 46, of East Earl, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017, at Lancaster General Hospital.

Born in Ephrata, he was a son of the late Weaver W. and Esther (Horst) Martin. He was married three years on Nov. 14 to Karen (Martin) Martin.

Lonnie was a truck driver and a farmer. He enjoyed farming and tractors but his grandchildren were the light of his life.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two children: Michael Martin and Stephanie Martin, both at home; two grandchildren: Vincent and Cheyenne Martin; a brother: Leon, married to Roxanne (Sauder) Martin of Ephrata; and four sisters: LouAnn, married to Aaron Martin of East Earl; Edna, married to Mervin Fox of Terre Hill; Linda Hurst of New Holland; and Elaine Weaver of New Holland.

Funeral services were held Nov. 20 at Martindale Mennonite Church, Ephrata, with Dave Sensenig and Hubert Stephen officiating. Interment was in the Lichty Mennonite Cemetery.

Robert R. ‘Dick’ Wager, 76, Marona superintendent, enjoyeed Euchre, outdoorsman, life of the party

Robert R. “Dick” Wager, 76, of Millersville, formerly of Schoeneck, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017, at Lancaster General Hospital.

Born in Cohocton, N.Y., he was the son of the late Martin and Leona (Smith) Wager. He was the loving husband and best friend to Janet (Poynor), with whom he shared 54 years of marriage.

Dick worked for Marona Construction for over 35 years as a superintendent. He loved playing cards, especially Euchre, and was a real outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and boating, most often on Keuka Lake, where he resided for 15 years.

Dick was the life of the party and the rock of his family. He made a huge impact on many lives, especially his children and grandchildren, whom he adored. His hilarious stories and nicknames are legendary.

In addition to his devoted wife, he is survived by his four children: Kimberly, wife of Robert Howells, Lancaster; Karyn Wager, Stevens; Scott, husband of Lee Wager, Lancaster; and Steven, husband of Melissa Wager, State College. Also surviving are nine grandchildren: Amanda (David), Zackery (Ember), Conrad, James, Evan, Alex, Ellen, Maxwell, and Brady; four great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren: Alexis and Rachel; two sisters: Jean Wesley, wife of Dean of Hornell, N.Y.; Deborah Thurling, wife of Robert of Keuka Park, N.Y.; and one brother: Douglas Wager husband of Beth of Warminster.

He was preceded in death by a brother: Donald.

Mass of Christian burial was held Nov. 20, at Our Mother of Perpetual Help, Ephrata, with Fr. Thomas Siconolfi CSSR as celebrant. Interment was in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Ephrata.

Stanley B. Loveless, 54, Denver Borough, died peacefully at home with his family by his side on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017, at 11:25 a.m.

Born in Chester, he was a son of the late Ralph and Emma L. (Bromley) Loveless.

Stanley worked for L & S Sweeteners, Leola; was an avid NASCAR fan, loved working on cars, assembling model cars and ships, and cherished family times.

Surviving is his wife of 19 years, Judy (Bender) Loveless; children: Brook, married to Chris Ellwood, Port St. Joe, Fla.; Ryan Redcay, Ephrata; and Steven, married to Becky Redcay, Manheim; grandchildren: Kelsey, Logan, Anthony, Kaylee, and Natalie; and brothers, Edwin, Kevin, and George.
