Roy M. Neideigh, 92, Army Air Force vet, First Reformed UCC pastor, 50-year Ephrata Mason

The Rev. Roy M. Neideigh, 92, of Sinking Spring, pastor emeritus of First Reformed Church of the United Church of Christ, Hamburg, died Friday, June 16, 2017, at Manor Care, Sinking Spring.

He was the husband of Mildred M. (Palmer) Neideigh. They were wed on Feb. 17, 1946, in New Holland, and were married for 71 years.

Born in Lititz, on Nov. 10, 1924, he was the son of the late Ross J. and Estella (Metzler) Neideigh.

He was a member of First Reformed Church of the United Church of Christ, Hamburg.

Neideigh graduated from Lititz High School in 1942. He received his pre-theological education at Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, and was a graduate of Lancaster Theological Seminary in 1954.

His service to the nation included three years in the Army Air Force (Pacific Theater), and 11 years as chairman of Selective Service Local Board 29 (Draft Board).

A longtime local pastor, Neideigh served 34 years at First Reformed Church of the United Church of Christ, Hamburg, retiring in 1989 as pastor emeritus.

Roy was ordained in 1954 in Calvary Reformed Church, Reading. His first pastorate was Trinity Reformed Church, Shenandoah. After retiring in 1989, he served as interim pastor at St. John’s UCC, Gibraltar, for three years, and as stated supply pastor at First Reformed Church, Wernersville, for 13 years. He was honored by this congregation by being named pastor emeritus.

He was a delegate to the 1957 general synod that created the United Church of Christ as well as a delegate to three other general synods. He served on the board of directors of the Pennsylvania Southeast Conference of the United Church of Christ; moderator of the Heidelberg Association of the UCC; and president of the Hamburg Ministerial Association from 1957 to 1971.

In 1957 he delivered 17 pure-bred heifers to Japan International Christian University, Tokyo, Japan, in the name of Church World Service.

Roy was a 50-year member of Ephrata Lodge 665 F&M and York and Scottish Rite bodies of Reading. He was a well-known Masonic speaker.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son: David R. Neideigh, Wyomissing; a grandson: Zachary David Neideigh; a sister: Ruth M., wife of the late Rev. Lester D. Brown.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, June 23, at First Reformed Church of the United Church of Christ, South Third Street, Hamburg. A viewing will be held 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service, at the church. Burial will be private in Zeltenreich’s Reformed Church Cemetery, New Holland.

Christian J. Gress, 89, WWII vet, long-time carpenter, enjoyed gardening, photography

Christian J. Gress, 89, of Reinholds, passed away Monday, June 12, 2017, at Gardens at Stevens Nursing Home.

He was born in Blainsport to the late Jacob G. and Lizzie (Sweigart) Gress, and was the husband of Kathryn E. (Snyder) Gress, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.

He was a member of Zion Goshert’s United Church of Christ in Lebanon. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and photography.

Christian was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II. He worked for 50 years as a carpenter for various construction companies. His last employment was with Sell Construction.

In addition to his wife, Christian is survived by five children: Ruth E., wife of Jerry Ulrich, of Ephrata; George C. Gress, husband of Patti (Darkes), of Lebanon; Miriam R., wife of Dean Patches, of Lebanon; Marie K., wife of Jim Redcay, of Reinholds; Joan F. Keffer, fiancée of Greg Oliphant, of Lancaster; nine grandchildren: Adam Gress, Kelly Patches, Brian Patches, Doug Patches, Steven Patches, Amanda Dittmer, Megan Heffner, Nicholas Keffer, and Brandon Keffer; a great-grandchild: Linden Dittmer; two brothers: Elam Gress of Reinholds; James Gress, husband of Margaret (Kring), of Bowmansville; a sister: Helen, wife of Roy Dinger, of Reinholds; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother: John Gress.

Services were held June 19 at Swamp Lutheran Church, Reinholds, with Pastor Bruce Farrell officiating. Interment was in the Swamp Cemetery.

Mary W. Raihl, 91, taught in the Cocalico School District, waitress at Zinn’s Diner

Mary W. Raihl, 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 11, 2017, at Maple Farm Nursing Home, Akron, where she was a resident for the last six months.

She was born July 17, 1925, in Clay Township. Mary was the daughter of the late George R. and A. Mildred (Foose) Walter. She was of the Lutheran faith.

Mary graduated from Ephrata High School in 1943. She went on to earn her bachelor of science degree in education in three years. She graduated in 1946 from Millersville State Teacher’s College. She was a teacher in the Cocalico School District for 21 years, then worked as a waitress at Zinn’s Diner for 27 years.

Mary is survived by two grandchildren: Mark (Kathleen) Jobes and Michelle Sola (Michael Strothers); four great-grandchildren: Pamela and Katherine Sola, Emily and Jacksen Jobes; and a brother: George (Faye) Walter Jr.

She was preceded in death by her daughter: Pamela Faye (Raihl) Jobes; her companion: William Flory; and her sisters: Emily Shenk and Dorothy Woerner.

In accordance with her wishes, Mary will be cremated with no viewing. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

The family would like to thank the staff at Maple Farm who contributed to Mary’s care and comfort during her stay. Additionally, we would like to thank Sandy Stoltzfus, who provided additional comfort and care during her final days.

William D. Coldren Jr., 73, farmer, High retiree, restored, collected antique tractors, Mason

William “Bill” D. Coldren Jr., 73, of Denver, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2017, at Lancashire Hall in Lancaster, where he was a resident for the past 18 months.

He was born in Denver to William and Lottie (Showalter) Coldren, and was married to Sandra I. (Bingaman) Coldren for 53 years.

Bill was a 1963 graduate of Ephrata High School, where he was a member of the Future Farmers of America. Even though he was a carpenter by trade, retiring from High Construction in 2009, farming was his first love. He owned and operated a 24-acre farm in Denver for about 20 years and enjoyed weekly trips to New Holland Sales Stables, Leesport Farmers Market, and The Green Dragon. One of his hobbies was restoring and collecting antique tractors.

For several years, Bill was a volunteer fireman with Denver Fire Company, where he founded the Junior Firemen Group. He belonged to many local organizations, including the Lebanon Antique Tractor Club, Lancaster Firemen’s Association, Denver Fair Committee (beef show chair), Ephrata Area Young Farmers, and Slumbering Groundhog Lodge of Quarryville.

His proudest accomplishments include becoming a 33rd degree Mason, the highest honorary Masonic degree given (2006); becoming Worshipful Master of F & AM Lodge No. 665 in Ephrata (1982); and Potentate of Rajah Shrine (2009).

He was a member of the following related clubs: Scottish Rite, Rajah Gun Club, Rajah Anglers, Shayk’s Court, Lehigh Shrine Club, Upper Dauphin Shrine Club, Lebanon Shrine Club, Past President of Rajah Shrine Club, Rajah Shrine Past Masters Club, Lancaster County Oriental Shrine Band, Rajah Golf Club, Rajah Motor Corps, York County Shrine Club, Schuylkill Shrine Club, Lancaster County Shrine Club, York Rite Body of Lancaster, Commandry No. 13, Royal Arch Chapter No. 43, Goodwill Council No. 19, Tall Cedars of Lebanon No. 27, president of Rajah Past President Club, Zembo Shrine Past President’s Club, Q Club, Apato 63, PA State Shrine Association, Past Masters Mid Atlantic Shrine Association, and Lancaster Lodge of Perfection T.P.M.

Bill is survived by his wife: Sandra I. Coldren, Denver; a son: William D. Coldren III of Akron; and a daughter: Lori S. Coldren and her fiancé Jeff Eichenseer, of Reinholds.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Nancy Eshelman and Ethel Stoner.

Services were held June 16 at Bethany United Church of Christ, Ephrata. Interment was private.

The family would like to express deep gratitude to all of Bill’s caretakers at Lancashire Hall and Compassus Hospice Care.

Lydia Ann Brubaker, 55, homemaker, mother of five, Spring Grove Mennonite member

Lydia Ann Brubaker, 55, of East Earl, died Thursday, June 22, 2017 after a lengthy illness.

Born in Caernarvon Township, she was a daughter of Menno M. and Martha E. (Kilmer) Shirk of East Earl. She was married 34 years on Dec. 23 to Melvin Z. Brubaker.

She was a homemaker and a member of Spring Grove Mennonite Church.

Surviving in addition to her parents and husband are five children: Loretta Brubaker at home; Clair, married to Regina (Martin) Brubaker, of Georgetown, Ohio; Lois Ann, married to Elam Newswanger, of East Earl; Melvin Ray, married to Lucy Marie (Leid) Brubaker, of Barnett, Mo.; and John Daniel, married to Norma (Zimmerman) Brubaker, of East Earl; four grandsons: Weston Brubaker, Matthew Newswanger, Javon Brubaker, and Tristan Brubaker; three granddaughters: Marcille Brubaker, Martha Newswanger, and Hanna Newswanger; and 14 brothers and sisters.

Preceding her in death is her oldest brother: David K. Shirk.

Funeral services were held June 26 at Spring Grove Mennonite Church, East Earl, with the Bishop Elam Zimmerman officiating. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery. Kindly omit flowers.

Deaths of Local Interest – June 28, 2017

J. Paulette “Paula” Bleacher, 74, of Lititz, passed away Monday, June 19, at The Gardens at Stevens. Paula had worked as an administrative assistant for many years at Armstrong World Industries. She enjoyed skiing, fly fishing, camping, and going to horse races.

Redgie L. Mattern, 56, formerly of Manheim, died peacefully June 7 at his home in Murrells Inlet, S.C. He had memberships with the American Legion, the VFW, and the Germania Band Club, all of Manheim. Redgie enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golf. Redgie will be missed by his beloved dog, Roy. His sister, Sue, wife of Dennis Parmer, resides in Ephrata.

Dorothy A. Ritchie, 101, of United Zion Retirement Community, Lititz, passed away June 20. Dorothy was the ultimate family matriarch. She was a faithful member of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She will be remembered by many as a strong Christian woman. Dorothy loved to write poetry. She also had a witty sense of humor that always had others laughing. Her son-in-law, Pete Hecker, lives in Ephrata.

Dick Filling, 85, loved a good joke and discussing politics almost as much as he loved his family, friends, and community. He passed away at the Masonic Care Center on June 12 after a brief illness. Dick attended Franklin & Marshall College until enlisting in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After serving his country he joined the family business, Fillings Inc.. His political career began in Lancaster as a committeeman, and city Republican chairman. He was later elected to the Lancaster City Council in 1966-1972, serving as president through 1969. In 1977, he moved on to state politics becoming the chairman of the Pennsylvania Republican Party. Dick was elected to be a delegate to the 1980 Republican Convention, and served as a member of the Electoral College that same year. He would go on to work for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, Republican Member Services, the Pennsylvania Department of Community Affairs as the legislative liaison, and be appointed as the Pennsylvania commissioner of the Bureau of Commissions, Elections and Legislation, retiring in 2003. His daughter, Ann Marie Koch, companion of Dr. Walter Engle, lives in Denver.

Donald H. Benedict, 89, WWII vet, career Navy man, also worked at Lancaster County Prison

Donald H. Benedict, 89, of Denver, passed away Thursday evening, June 15, 2017, at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy Center.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Amos R. and Bessie Quinn Benedict.

Don served 38 years in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II as a Navy Seabee. He returned home and worked for the Lancaster County Prison and other various local companies.

He is survived by his children: Patrick W., (Stephanie) Benedict of Adamstown; Alan D. Benedict of Ephrata; and Jennifer J., (John A.) Wentz of Denver; Richard Benedict, Joyce Patch-Davis, Jeannie Benedict, Jerry Benedict and Janet Goodpaster, all of Illinois; as well as 15 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters.

A private family graveside service will be held in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

Barbara A. Heuyard, 71, of Denver, passed away Monday, June 19, 2017, at Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital.

She was the loving wife of Floyd R. Heuyard, with whom she shared more than 49 years of marriage. Born in Salisbury Township, she was a daughter of G. Robert Ream of Denver and the late Ruth (Ramsey) Ream.

She worked as an office coordinator for J.B. Zimmerman’s in New Holland. She was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church, and she enjoyed crafts, search-a-word puzzles, romance novels, and jigsaw puzzles.

Surviving, in addition to her husband and her father, is a daughter: Robin A., married to Elwood E. Barnes III, of East Earl; two brothers and a sister: Barry L. Ream of South Carolina; Brenda J., married to Gary Hornberger, of Bowmansville; and Robert I., married to Lynn Ream, of Lancaster; three grandchildren: Robert E. Barnes, Cheyenne N. Kilby, and Kelly A. Barnes; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her mother, was an infant sister: Jane.

Funeral services were held June 24 at the Groff-High Funeral Home, New Holland. Interment was in Memory Gardens, Ephrata.

Mae E. Weaver, 91, worked at Dutch Maid outlet, mission enthusiast at Weaverland

Mae E. Weaver, 91, of Ephrata, died Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Fairmount Homes.

Born in Earl Township, she was the daughter of the late Clayton W. and Mary E. (Hershey) Weaver.

Mae had been a store clerk at the former Dutch Maid Outlet Store, Ephrata, retiring in 1988. She then worked part-time as a geriatric aide at Landis Homes.

She was a member of Weaverland Mennonite Church and was keenly interested in missions.

Surviving is a brother: Lloyd W. Weaver, husband of Vesta Gehr, of Ephrata; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by five siblings: Esther Hurst, Elva Bowman, Elsie Witmer, Hershey D. Weaver, and Ivan Weaver.

Her funeral was held June 26 at Weaverland Mennonite Church, with C. Kenneth Martin and Leon Hurst officiating. Interment was in the adjoining church cemetery.

Brian E. VanScyoc, 50, Army vet, worked at Sunoco, DJ, avid Steelers and Orioles fan

Brian E. VanScyoc, 50, of Akron, passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

He was born in Camp Hill to Dellia Joann (Mullens) VanScyoc and the late Lonnie E. VanScyoc, and was the husband of Donna M. (Adams) VanScyoc, with whom he shared more than 27 years of marriage.

Brian worked for Sunoco at the Bowmansville service plaza on the turnpike. Before that, he had many other jobs, and also served for just under two years in the United States military in the Army. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Orioles, and WWE wrestling. He was also a member of Zumba Fitness, an accomplished musician, and former DJ. Brian had a love for music and people, especially caring for others. He spent countless hours volunteering his time to help those in need, and held many charity events and Zumbathons. Brian was such a devoted and loving man, most people thought of him as an “angel on earth.”

In addition to his wife and mother, Brian is survived by two children: Katie J. VanScyoc and Corey J. VanScyoc; a sister: Gretchen A., wife of Randy Gladfelter, of Glenville; and a nephew: Adam, husband of Mary Finnemeyer, of Rockingham, N.C.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother: Christopher VanScyoc.

A viewing will be held on Friday, June 30, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Grace Point Church of the Nazarene, 110 Durlach Road, Ephrata, followed by funeral services at 8 p.m. Interment will take place in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, 531 N State St., Ephrata, on Saturday, July 1, at 10 a.m.

Shiela Dean ‘Deanie’ Haldman, 66, homemaker, devoted to her family, member of Liberty Baptist Church

Shiela Dean “Deanie” Haldman, 66, of Ephrata, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017 after a long, hard, courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Hinton, W. Va., Deanie was a daughter of the late James D. and Harietta (Kirk) Davis and wife of Randy L. Haldeman.

She was a devoted wife who loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren immensely. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Ephrata, and was a homemaker.

“I love my Lord. I never lose faith in my Lord.”

In addition to her husband, Randy, Deanie is survived by one son,: Larry Peters (Ann) of Conestoga; eight grandchildren: Randell, Renee, Richelle, Makinsay, Jadyn, McKenna, Aleesha, and Joshua; five great-grandchildren; one sister: Joan Eckman of Landisville; and two brothers: Dennis Davis (Laura) and Albert Strubel, all of Columbia.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three daughters: Debra Peters, Danielle Peters, and one stillborn daughter.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 30, at Liberty Baptist Church, 47 Cindia Lane, Ephrata. Friends will be received before the service from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. Place of interment will be Middle Creek Brethren Cemetery.

Gloria A. Bauman, 74, Ephrata schools teacher’s aide, loved cooking for her family

Gloria A. (Rollman) Bauman, 74, of Ephrata, passed away after a lengthy illness, surrounded by her family, on Monday, June 19, 2017, in Ephrata.

Gloria was born in Ephrata to Monroe and Mary (Smith) Rollman on May 29, 1943. She was married to the late Chester W. Bauman.

She retired from the Ephrata Area School District where she worked for many years as a teacher’s aide and playground supervisor. She won the Mother of the Year award for 55 consecutive years, from her loving family. Gloria loved to cook all of the kids’ favorite meals. The family agreed that there is not enough paper to list all of their favorite dishes.

Preceding Gloria in death are her parents; two brothers: Gerald Rollman and Earl J. Rollman; and a grandson: Dylan Garman.

Surviving Gloria are six children: Scott Bauman (Jackie) of Ephrata; Robbie Bauman of Ephrata; Jodi Kinsey (Alan) of Gap; Kelli Hart (Brian) of Marietta; Corie Bauman (Rebecca) of Lititz; Jason Bauman (living at home) in Ephrata; 10 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are siblings: Robert W. Rollman of Ephrata; Lucille Miller of Ephrata; Jean Adkins (Jack) of Radford, Va.; James M. Rollman of Bremerton, Wash.; Carl E. Rollman of Stevens; and Terry L. Rollman (Kay), of Lancaster.

Services were held June 23 at Gravenor Home for Funerals, Ephrata, with Chaplain Don Kinnier officiating. Interment followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Ephrata.

Barbara Anne Doner, Former Ephrata School Board member, active in Ephrata civic organizations, amazing cook

Barbara Anne (Brenner) Doner was welcomed into God’s kingdom on Wednesday, June 14, 2017.

Born on July 25, 1930, to J. Irvin and Elsie (Brookmyer) Brenner in Lancaster, Barbara graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School and Elizabethtown College.

Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years: Floyd B. Doner.

She is survived by daughter: Cindi (David) Freeburn; son: Michael (Michele) Doner; and grandchildren: Derek, Christopher, and Chelsea Freeburn; Mark (Becky) Doner; and Megan (Brian) Snyder. Former exchange student, Patrick Bertrand, of Lyon, France, is also a beloved member of Barbara’s extended family.

Barbara was also preceded in death by her sisters: Ruth M. Brenner, Elsie B. Herr;, and brother: Paul Brenner.

Following graduation from Elizabethtown College, Barbara worked as a medical technologist at Lancaster General Hospital, and at Abington Memorial Hospital in suburban Philadelphia. When Barbara and Floyd returned to Lancaster County in 1962, she devoted her time to raising her family, and leading charitable initiatives in the Ephrata area.

She served as a four-time president of the Woman’s Club of Ephrata, was a long time member and president of the Ephrata Hospital Auxiliary, an advocate for the Ephrata Library, involved with Ephrata Area Social Services, on the board of the TRACK charity, and served on the Ephrata Area School Board. Barbara was chairperson of the Woman’s Club Charity Ball several times throughout her life. She also led several fundraising initiatives in the Community, from Home/Kitchen Tours to Candy-making for the Holidays. Barbara also returned to her Medical Technology career in 1974, working at Ephrata Community Hospital until her retirement.

Barbara was best known for her incredible culinary skills, honed through continuing self-education, and by attending courses at The Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, N.Y., and Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, France. Barbara and Floyd hosted innumerable dinner parties and, in their retirement years, auctioned such events at their home to raise money for local charities. Floyd and Barbara shared a passion for travel, specifically cruising, and enjoyed many adventures especially in Europe.

Floyd and Barbara were long time members of Bethany UCC in Ephrata and spent nine years at Ephrata Manor, a UCC Home.

Dolores J. Lewis, 85, EHS grad, OR nurse, founded the Akron Restaurant gift shop

Dolores J. Lewis, 85, of Ephrata, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2017 at The Garden at Stevens.

Dolores was born to Paul and Maude (Bensing) Gelsinger on Aug. 29, 1931, in Reading, and was the loving wife of Walter E. Lewis for 63 years.

She graduated from Ephrata High School in 1949 and the Reading Hospital School of Nursing in 1952. Dolores was an operating room nurse at the Ephrata Community Hospital before she stopped nursing to raise her family. Most recently, she started and operated the Gift Shop at the former Akron Restaurant.

Dolores was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ in Ephrata, where she was a choir member and Sunday school teacher. She was also formerly active as a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader.

In addition to her husband, Walter, Dolores is survived by three children: Susan A. Lewis of Ephrata; David P. Lewis (Nancy) of Akron; and James W. Lewis (Eleanor) of Lititz; four grandchildren: Benjamin D. Lewis (Heather), Alexandra R. Lewis, Tyler J. Lewis (Ashley), and Devin M. Lewis; and two great-grandsons: Cooper and Cameron Lewis.

Memorial services will be held at Bethany UCC, 140 E. Main St., Ephrata, July 1, at 4 p.m., with the Rev. William LaSalle officiating. The family will receive friends before the service from 3 to 4 p.m. There will also be a time of fellowship and light refreshments after the service in the church’s social hall. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to Bethany UCC, 140 E. Main St., Ephrata, PA 17522, for the deacons fund; used to assist community need.

Dr. William Luther Graybill,73, well-known pastor at Reformed Presbyterian

Dr. William Luther Graybill, 73, of Ephrata, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at Beebe Healthcare, Lewes, Del.

He was born in Hanover to Mary Grace (Bish) Graybill and the late William Graybill, and was the husband of Susann E. (Houser) Graybill, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.

William served as a pastor for more than 35 years at four churches, most recently at the Reformed Presbyterian Church in Ephrata. He was a graduate of Lancaster Bible College and Luther Rice Seminary and then received his Doctorate of Ministry from Trinity Seminary.

William also served as interim pastor at Zeltenreich Reformed Church after retirement. He served as a member on the board of directors for Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community and also as a part-time chaplain.

He enjoyed the outdoors, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a loving husband and father who devoted his whole life to helping others.

In addition to his wife, William is survived by three children: Laura Graybill; Matthew, husband of Julie Graybill; Nathan, husband of Valerie Graybill; and six grandchildren: William, Michael, Isabella, Joshua, Cassidy, and Katherine.

A memorial service was held June 24 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family, with Dr. Larry Roth officiating.

Anna Mae Sensenig, 88, homemaker, mother of four, active at Goodville Mennonite

Anna Mae Sensenig, 88, of East Earl, died Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at Landis Homes.

She and her husband, Roy M. Sensenig, would have observed their 68th wedding anniversary on July 23. She was the daughter of the late Isaac and Rebecca (Weaver) Frederick.

Anna Mae was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. A member of Goodville Mennonite Church, she enjoyed serving others while being involved with the sewing circle, the JGA Girl’s Club, and the kitchen committee.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children: Janice, married to Wilmer Stoner, Jonestown; Daryl G., married to Dianne (Sauder) Sensenig, East Earl; Dale L., married to Sharon (Nolt) Sensenig, Lititz; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant son: Jay Roy Sensenig; a grandson: Adrian Lee Sensenig; and a brother: Marvin Frederick.

The family would like to thank the staff of Landis Homes for their compassionate care of Anna Mae.

A memorial service was held July 1 at Goodville Mennonite Church, East Earl. Interment was private.

Hazel M. Allen, 96, nurse at LGH, animal lover, enjoyed sewing, Bible study

Hazel M. Allen, 96, formerly of Blue Ball, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at Magnolias of Lancaster.

She was born in East Waterford, Juniata County, to the late Charles and Jennie Blanche (Vanscyoc) Gloss and was the wife of the late Willard J. Allen.

Hazel attended the Bridgeville Evangelical Congregational Church, Narvon. During her working years, she was an LPN at Lancaster General Hospital. She was an animal lover and enjoyed sewing, reading, walking and attending Bible study.

She is survived by a nephew: Gerald Lynn Eaton of Thompsontown.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 6, at 11 a.m, in the East Waterford Cemetery, Juniata County.

Dorothy M. Parker, 93, of Lancaster, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2017, at Hershey Medical Center.

She was born in Glouster, Ohio, to the late Leonard and Mae (VanDyke) Lowery, and was the wife of the late Theodore A. Parker Jr., who died in 2003.

Dorothy was a homemaker. She enjoyed golfing, gardening, and politics. She was a long-time officer in the Lancaster City Republican Party and briefly served on the Lancaster City Council. She also served for many years as a leader the YMCA and Cub Scouts.

Dorothy is survived by a son: Blanford C. Parker of Ave Maria, Fla.; a daughter: Saundra J. Hamilton of Palmyra; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son: Theodore A. Parker III.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Janice M. Stauffer, 65, Goodwill worker, loved people, holding babies, having nails done

Janice M. Stauffer, 65, entered into rest July 1, 2017, at Lancashire Hall, Lititz.

She was born in Ephrata, daughter of the late Ivan Z. Stauffer and the late Amanda (Martin) Stauffer.

Janice enjoyed playing piano, doing word-searches, getting her nails done, celebrating her birthday and holding babies. She loved cats, parakeets and guinea pigs. But, most of all she loved people, and her big smile and hugs (and her yelling) will be remembered by many.

She was connected with Friendship Community, Lititz, for many years, and also worked at Goodwill Industries, Lighthouse Rehabilitation, Occupational Development Center, and other places. Before living at Lancashire, Janice resided at Welsh Mountain Home, New Holland, for several years. The highlight of her summer for many years was a week at Camp Hebron, and the staff, especially the camp nurses, got to know her well. She also enjoyed going to community events with her mother and attending Grace Fellowship Church, Ephrata, of which she was a member.

She is survived by her brother: James, husband of Janine (Hackman) Stauffer, of Ephrata; sister: Joyce Stauffer of Akron; a niece: Jolyn (Stauffer), wife of Travis Wolf, of Akron; and two great-nephews: Ethan and Elliot Wolf.

Services were held July 5 at Stradling Funeral Home, Akron, with Andrew Maines officiating.

Clair B. Brooks, 95, founded C&B Trimming, Ephrata Mason, boating was his passion

Clair B. Brooks, 95, of Lititz, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at Landis Homes.

He celebrated his 75th wedding anniversary with Pauline “Polly” Brooks on Dec. 24, 2016.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Rev. O.R. and Mary Brooks.

He graduated from Denver High School. After high school, he and Polly founded C&B Trimming Co. in Reamstown. He and Polly also had a residence in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for 25 years. He was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church, Ephrata Rotary, and was a 32nd degree Mason with the Ephrata Blue Lodge No. 665 F.&A.M. He had many interests, but boating was his passion.

In addition to his wife, Clair is survived by two sons: Barry, husband of Shelby Brooks, of Ephrata; Jeffrey, husband of Kathie Brooks, of Lancaster; four grandchildren: Lori Gehman, Barret Brooks, both of Ephrata; Jason Brooks of Los Angeles, Calif.; Matthew Brooks of San Francisco, Calif.; two great-grandchildren: Krystal and Justin, both of Ephrata; and two great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Ray Brooks.

Services were held July 5 at the Highland Presbyterian Church, Lancaster, with the Rev. Dr. Ann Osborne officiating. Private interment will in Fairview Cemetery.
