Matthew T. Ovensen, 40, Ephrata native, EHS grad, enjoyed soccer, hiking, skiing

Matthew T. Ovensen, 40, of Lancaster County, passed away Friday, Feb. 20, 2015.

Born and raised in Ephrata, he was the son of Tina and Albert Ovensen.

Matthew graduated from Ephrata High School. He also attended the Pennsylvania State and Millersville universities. He was baptized and grew up within the Lutheran church. Matthew loved soccer, Eagles football, fishing, hiking, snow skiing, water skiing, and just spending time outdoors.

He is survived by his parents: Al and Tina Ovensen; a daughter: Destiny Stauffer Ovensen; a sister: Ashley, spouse of Ryan White; paternal grandfather: Reynold Ovensen; aunts: Juanita Kissinger, Vickie Kissinger, and Linda Vereidi; uncles: Kevin Vereidi and Dean Kissinger; cousins: Melanie, Amy, Angie, Kaia, and Carrie.

He was predeceased by the love of his life: Nicole “Sunshine” Stauffer; maternal grandparents: Lloyd and Nancy Kissinger; as well as paternal grandmother: Betty Ovensen; and uncle: Robert Kissinger.

Friends and relatives are respectfully invited to attend a memorial service at Bergstrasse Lutheran Church, 9 Hahnstown Road, Ephrata, on Saturday, March 14, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Herbert Lohr. Interment will be private at the family’s convenience.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Matthew’s name may be sent to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 3551 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19140.
