Marie M. Mowrey, 91, of Lancaster, formerly of Denver, passed away Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, at Brethren Village where she was a resident for the past 12 years.
She was born in Denver to the late Phares and Lizzie (Snyder) Meckley and was the wife of the late David R. Mowrey with whom she shared 63 years of marriage before he passed away in 2011.
Marie was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Denver where she had served as a chairperson of Caring and Sharing and was active in the craft group. She was also a member of the Ephrata Golden Years Club and a volunteer for 14 years for Meals on Wheels. Marie enjoyed scrapbooking, crafts, playing cards and bowling. She was a 1941 graduate of East Cocalico Vocational School and had worked for Dornes Jewelry store in Ephrata and for the Trunk Dress Shop prior to retirement.
Marie is survived by a son: Michael L., husband of Patricia (Moore) Mowrey of Cape May Court House; a daughter: Nancy M., wife of Barry Johnson of Jeannette; five grandchildren: Dale, husband of Katrin Mowrey; Amy, wife of Casey King; Anne, wife of Gabe Berkey; Amber, wife of Matt Bechtel; and Lindsey Johnson; two great-granddaughters: Lila and Allison King; and a sister: Irene Gehman of New Holland.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a brother: Leroy Meckley; and a sister: Sadie Zerbe.
A viewing will be held Oct. 29 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., at the Brethren Village Chapel, 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, followed by her funeral service at 11:30 a.m., with Chaplain Mark Tedford officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in the Fairview Cemetery, Denver.
