Deaths of Local Interest: Oct. 29, 2014

Glenn K. Beam, 83, died Oct. 24 at Zerbe Sisters Nursing Center. Glenn retired from the Meridian Bank as an assistant vice president. For most of his career he was a portfolio manager. He also had his own business serving as an accountant and tax preparer to many clients in his locale. Glenn’s first and foremost hobby was travel. His brother, Daniel, lives in Ephrata.

Stephen K. Esh, 83, of Bird-in-Hand, passed away Oct. 27. Stephen was a retired farmer and a member of the Old Order Amish Church. His daughter Leah, wife of David Lapp, lives in Ephrata.

Richard W. “Rich” Hanna, 78, of Manheim passed away Oct. 23 at M.S. Hershey Medical Center. Rich worked at the former Science Press, Ephrata for 30 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Security Agency stationed at HQ ASAPAC Camp Oji Japan. His interests included hunting, fishing, cooking, and gardening. Rich loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ruth G. Weaver, 84, of New Holland, died Oct. 22 at her home of natural causes. Ruth worked as an egg candler for the former Victor F. Weaver Poultry in New Holland. She enjoyed sitting on her porch swing and telling stories of her days on the farm, along with flower gardening and antiquing. Her son, Eugene Weaver and his fiancée, Terry Blodis; as well as her brother, Carl Wise, all live in Ephrata.
