Pauline D. Mateer, 92, Ephrata, food service director for Manheim Twp., civic leader

Pauline D. “Polly” Mateer, 92, formerly of 61 E. Main St., Leola, entered into rest Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014 at Ephrata Manor.

Born in Sinking Spring, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Katie Stricker Daub. She was the loving wife of the late J. Cameron Mateer Jr., who died on Feb. 14, 2009.

Polly was retired from Manheim Township. School District where she was the school food service director. She was a longtime member of Zeltenreich United Church of Christ, New Holland. Polly was the head cook for many years for Upper Leacock War Memorial Association; a member and past Royal Matron of Lancaster Court #70 Order of the Amaranth; past member ABWA Covered Bridge Charter Chapter where she was honored as Woman of the Year. Polly enjoyed Wii bowling and bocci as well as bingo and fellowship with her friends at Ephrata Manor.

The family would like to thank the staff and nurses of Ephrata Manor who lovingly provided care for Polly. She loved them so much.

She will be lovingly missed by her four children: Barbara Ellingsworth, Warren; Jack, husband of Janet Lefever Mateer, Elizabethville; Bonnie, wife of Paul Neff, Brownstown; Beth, wife of Edward Hinkle, Leola; six grandchildren: Lisa (Dean) Huya, Lori Shilling, Col. John Cameron Mateer IV (Kaylin Haywood), Paula (Brian) Trump, Ryan (Cara) Neff and Abby (Graham) Elder; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister: Patricia Eshelman.

Services were held Oct. 17 at Furman Home for Funerals, Leola. Interment was in Zeltenreich Reformed Church Cemetery, New Holland.
