Ray Earl Lowry, 82, of Lititz, died peacefully surrounded by his family, on Monday Oct. 9, 2017, at Luther Acres, following a valiant battle with cancer for over 30 years.
Born in New Holland, he was the son of the late Ivan P. and Vernetta Miller Lowry. Ray was the loving husband of Rosann Weaver Lowry, and they observed their 62nd wedding anniversary in April of this year.
He was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lititz; and served in the United States Army. Ray graduated from New Holland High School and Indiana Technical College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and was a member of Lota Tau Kappa. He worked as an electrical engineer at RCA, Lancaster, and obtained a patent for his work that was used by NASA. Ray and business partners opened Tire Consultants, Inc, Ephrata, in 1974. He successfully owned and operated the tire business until his retirement.
He served as a board member for the Woodridge Swim Club; as a faithful member of AMBUCS, Lititz, he once served as the secretary for the American Business Club and was voted Mr. AMBUC in 1988. Ray was also a member of the Northern Lancaster County Sportsman’s Association. He coached for the Warwick Midget Football Association for many years. Ray was an avid fisherman and hunter, and enjoyed playing golf. He loved family gatherings and cookouts, especially when he was able to spend time with his beloved family and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Rosann, is a son: Gary R. Lowry of Somerset, N.J.; a daughter: Gail D., wife of Peter Price of Lititz; two grandchildren; Adam W., husband of Veronica Brumbach of Ephrata; Morgan R., wife of Kyle Michael of Richland; two great-grandchildren: Nolan R. Michael and Landon W. Brumbach; a sister: Joan Delp of New Holland; and a brother: Gene, husband of Mary Lowry of New Holland.
Preceding him in death are two sisters: Evelyn Shue, Gladys Lambert; and a brother: Robert Lowry.
Services were held Oct. 14 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lititz. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Witness Park, Lititz.
