Harry B. Ward Jr., 84, of Norwood, Mass., passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.

On his last day he said: “I’ve lived a full and wonderful life, and I know where I’m going. I’m at peace.”

Harry was born March 20, 1933, to Connie Ward Speitel and Harry B. Ward Sr. He was married to Catherine (Wood) Ward on Aug. 17, 1955 in Chattanooga, Tenn., at Our Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.

Harry graduated from Mercersburg Academy (1949) and then went on to graduate from the University of Pennsylvania (1957). For decades, in the era of overhead projectors, Harry was a marketing and sales rep for 3M, covering all of New England and upstate New York.

Family was the foundation of Harry’s life. He will be remembered as a dedicated and cherished husband, father, and grandfather. Harry excelled in telling stories and loved to hear family members and friends share their latest adventures.

He was the devoted father of: Deborah Ward Lyons; David Ward; John Ward; Harry E. Ward; and Judy Ward Chrisman, and her spouse Paul Chrisman; grandfather of: Amanda and Jason Chrisman, children of Judy and Paul Chrisman; and Winona (Lyons) Meringolo, and husband Joe Meringolo; Yogan Lyons; Elias Lyons; and Takara Lyons, children of Deb and Smokey Lyons.

As family and friends mourn his loss, we are grateful for his lifelong examples of caring and selflessness, and all will fondly remember his typewritten letters mailed in envelopes covered with stickers. He will be greatly missed.

His funeral will be held at the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home, 1248 Washington St., Norwood, Mass., on Friday, May 19, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass in celebration of Harry’s life at 10:30 a.m. in St. Timothy’s Parish, 650 Nichols St., Norwood, Mass. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, May 18, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Internment will take place at a later date in Ephrata, near the fields Harry roamed with his Red Ryder BB gun, and rode through on horseback as a boy.

For those wishing to honor his memory, please make donations to Southeastern Residential Services, Friends of SRS, in memory of Harry B. Ward, 23 Bassett St., Taunton, MA 02780; or to Dana-Farber Cancer Institution, 450 Brookline Ave., Boston, MA 02115.

Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home, Norwood, Mass., handled the arrangements. Online condolences may be offered at kraw-kornackfuneralhome.com.
