Beverley A. Merkey, 67, homemaker, scrapbooker, knitted hats for cancer patients

Beverley A. Merkey, 67, of Stevens, passed away and walked into Heaven on Monday, March 13, 2017, at Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital.

She was the wife of John Merkey. They were married on May 5, 1973 in Wellsboro. Born in Wellsboro, Beverley was a daughter of Betty (Tubbs) Rice Springman and the late Albert Rice.

Beverley attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Kleinfeltersville. She enjoyed her grandchildren, walking, cooking, and scrapbooking. She also knitted hats for the Cancer Center in Ephrata.

In addition to her husband, Beverley is survived by two sons: Craig A. Merkey, husband of Samantha (Smith); and Brad L. Merkey, significant other of Jo Ann Martin; grandchildren: Aubrey M. Merkey, Abigail J. Merkey, Victoria R. Merkey, Owen B. Merkey, John R. Merkey, Leon J. Merkey, Brad L. Merkey Jr., and Vidalia R. Merkey.

Her siblings are: Albert Rice (deceased) husband of Trudy; Cathy, wife of Joe Patt (deceased); Diane, wife of Charlie Plankenhorn; and Edward Rice.

Services were held March 17 at Gravenor Home for Funerals, Ephrata, with Pastor Robert Nissly officiating. Burial was in the Mount Airy Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ephrata Community Health Foundation, 772 W. Main St., Ephrata, PA 17522. Memo line on checks should read: Ephrata Cancer Center in memory of Beverley Merkey.
