Norman H. Weaver, 87, Old Order Mennonite Groffdale Conference deacon, sales barn retiree

Norman H. Weaver, 87, of Leola, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at his residence.

He was born in Earl Township on Dec. 26, 1928. He was married to Katie S. Snyder on Nov. 22, 1949. He was the son of the late John O. and Leah M. (Horst) Weaver.

Norman a member of Old Order Mennonite Groffdale Conference. He was ordained deacon for Groffdale District on June 24, 1980. He was a retired farmer and also retired from New Holland Sales barn.

He was the father to six children: Clarence S. and Mary Ellen Weaver of Martinsburg; Edna S. and George Martin of Lewisburg; Ruth S. and Isaac Reiff of Mifflinburg; Ellen S. and Aaron Zimmerman of Leola; Irene S. and Harvey Oberholtzer of Leola; and a son-in-law: Elvin and Nora Oberholtzer of Shippensburg; 29 grandchildren; and 51 great-grandchildren; siblings: Ada and Aaron Burkholder of Fleetwood; John and Edna Weaver of Kutztown; Elmer and Elizabeth Weaver of Fleetwood; Eli and Mable Weaver of Leola; and Mary and Harold Zimmerman of Martinsburg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter: Vera S. Oberholtzer in 1997; three granddaughters; and a great-granddaughter; three brothers: Henry, Paul, and Alvin Weaver; three sisters: Nora Martin, Anna Weaver, and Mabel Weaver.

Services were held May 28 at the home of Irene and Harvey Oberholtzer, further services at the Groffdale Frame Mennonite Church, with Bishop Ammon Weaver officiating. Interment was in the adjoining church cemetery. Kindly omit flowers.
