Nancy G. Harper, 83, of Strasburg, died at home May 9 of complications from multiple myeloma. In the mid-1970s, as a mother of three school-age children, she returned to college to finish her education. A woman doing so was sufficiently unusual then, and the local newspaper wrote an article about it. She was employed as a social worker in health care in Philadelphia and suburbs from 1978 to 1989 and in Lancaster County from 1989, retiring in 1998 as director of Social Services at Ephrata Community Hospital.
Jane R. Pinkerton, 78, formerly of Lititz, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Christiana Hospital, Newark, Del., on May 12. She was a graduate of Lititz High School in 1955, and was elected by her classmates to be that year’s Queen of the Candles for the Fourth of July celebration there. Also in that year, she was a contestant in the Miss Pennsylvania contest as Miss Ephrata. She and her husband were avid gardeners and antiques collectors and participated in various antiques shows over the years.
