Kenneth J. Meehan, 82, of Ephrata, formerly of Bradenton, Fla., passed away Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Ephrata Community Hospital.
Ken’s wife, the late Judith L. Meehan, passed away Oct. 19, 2015.
Ken was a former member of Park Congregational Church of Worcester, Mass.; and a current member of Bethany United Church of Christ, Ephrata. Ken was a proud veteran of the Korean War and enjoyed photographing the many places he traveled during his time in the Navy.
Ken was a mechanical engineer who worked for many years at Sheppard Envelope in Worcester, Mass. He later worked for the Berlin Corp. also of Worcester, working in the marketing, set up and support of large machinery.
After retiring in 1996, he moved with his family to Bradenton, Fla., and enjoyed the area for 10 years. During that time he was fond of working on boats and remodeling vacation homes, as well as being a reliable handyman for anyone and everyone.
He moved to Ephrata in 2006 along with Judith to continue his busy retirement, and to raise his grandson, Tyler. Ken worked tirelessly with his grandchildren, teaching them his vast skills. A caring, selfless man who would always put others before himself, Ken will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his beloved grandson: Tyler Joshua Meehan, 11, of Ephrata; daughter: Jennifer (Meehan) Dufresne, of Ephrata; daughter: Michelle Meehan, of Wilmington, Del.; son: Dennis Meehan, of Charlton, Mass.; daughter: Dale (Meehan) McNeil, of Sturbridge, Mass.; son: David Holmes, husband of Bonnie, of North Brookfield, Mass.; daughter: Cynthia (Holmes) Hopkins, wife of Robert, of Corpus Christi, Texas; daughter: Erin McGlynn, wife of Kristie, of Cherry Valley, Mass.; many grandchildren, nieces, and a nephew; and loving sister-in-law: Linda Smith.
In addition to his wife, Judith; Ken was preceded in death by his parents: Dennis J. Meehan and Edith (Norcliff) Meehan; and brother: Harry Meehan.
Friends will be received from 2 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, at Paul L. Gravenor Home for Funerals, 100 W. Main St. Ephrata. Memorial services with the Rev. William LaSalle officiating will follow at 3 p.m. Place of interment will be Old Bethany Cemetery, Ephrata Township.
