Melvin M. Hoover, 81, of Ephrata, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2016, at Fairmount Homes.
He was the loving husband of Edna M. (Martin) Hoover, with whom he shared more than 59 years of marriage, and who preceded him in death in 2015. Born in Farmersville, he was a son of the late Harvey S. and Elizabeth (Martin) Hoover.
Melvin was a laborer and salesman and a member of the Pequea Mennonite Church.
Melvin is survived by five children: Ruth Ann Hoover, wife of Clair, of New Holland; Curvin Hoover, husband of Jane, of Kinzers; Mary Jane Martin of Ephrata; Melvin Hoover Jr., husband of Anna, of Berrysbury; and Nelson Hoover, husband of Dawn, of Lebanon; two sisters: Vera and Anna Mae Hoover, both of Myerstown; 18 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, Melvin was preceded in death by a son-in-law: Vernon Martin; and three infant siblings: Wilmer, Raymond, and Mary.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 6, at 9:15 a.m., at the Wheat Ridge Chapel at Fairmount Homes, 333 Wheat Ridge Drive, Ephrata, with further services at 10 a.m. at Pequea Mennonite Church, 4121 Red Well Drive, Gordonville, with Bishop Curvin Zimmerman, Paul Newswanger, Marlin Zimmerman, and Matthew Eberly officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. Viewing will be held Thursday, May 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Wheat Ridge Chapel at Fairmount Homes, address above.
