J. Richard Wise, 97, of Ephrata, passed away Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015, at Ephrata Manor.
He was born in Ephrata to the late Jacob and Vera Jeanette (Killian) Wise, and was the husband of the late Lorraine E. (Wingenroth) Wise.
He graduated from Ephrata High School, was a member of Bethany UCC and a former member of Ephrata VFW Post. In his early years, Richard worked for Sears and was a former postman for the Ephrata area until his retirement in 1980. Richard served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a prisoner of war in the Battle of the Bulge.
J. Richard is survived by son: Kevin Wise of Ephrata; two nieces: Carol, wife of Milt Horst; and Pat Carbone, all of Maryland.
A viewing will be held Thursday, Dec. 17, from 1 to 2 p.m., at the Stradling Funeral Home, 201 Church Ave., Ephrata, followed by his funeral service at 2 p.m., with William J. LaSalle officiating. Interment will take place in the Bergstrasse Lutheran Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard.
