Dr. Dale H. Reinecker, 84, Denver, superintendent at Red Lion, member of Reinholds Rotary

Dr. Dale H. Reinecker, 84, of Denver, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014, at 10:53 p.m. at Denver Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Stevens.

Born in York Springs, he was the son of the late Charles D. and Faith (Peters) Reinecker. He was the husband of Joan B. (Knisley) Reinecker whom he married on Christmas day, 1952.

He began his education in an Adams County one-room school and graduated in 1947 from York Springs High School. He continued his education at Gettysburg College majoring in mathematics and graduating in 1951 with a bachelor of arts degree. He received his master of science degree from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, in 1956 and a Doctor of Education in 1972 from Temple University. He held a letter of eligibility for Pennsylvania superintendents, assistant superintendents, secondary principal and a permanent teacher’s certification.

Dr. Reinecker enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1951, was commissioned in 1952 as a 1st Lt. and continued his military career in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard, retiring in January 1981 with the rank of Lt. Colonel.

After discharge from active duty in 1960, he taught mathematics at Boiling Springs High School, January 1960 to June 1961 when he accepted the position of director of general educational development at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle. In Sept. 1962, he accepted a position at Carlisle High School teaching geometry, algebra and vocational development. In 1964 he was named assistant principal at Carlisle. Dr. Reinecker was named superintendent of the Scotland School for Veteran’s Children in Scotland, Pa., in Oct. 1966 where he served until June of 1973. At this time, he accepted the superintendency at Exeter Township School District, Reading. In February of 1983 he assumed the position of school superintendent of Red Lion School District, from which he retired in 1990. During this 10-year period he was also superintendent of record on a part-time basis for the York County Vocational-technical School. After his retirement he served as director of the York County Teacher Recruiting Consortium until July 2000. Until his illness he was serving as a student teacher/monitor for Alvernia University in Reading.

During his tenure at Scotland School he received recognition from the PA House of Representatives for excellent work and for acknowledging innovative leadership in the school program and was recognized by the PA Jewish War Veterans for his dedication to educational programs and humanitarian deeds.

Dr. Reinecker maintained membership in the American Association of School Superintendents and was an official delegate from 1980-1985, was a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators serving on the Legislative Committee, the Executive Board, the Convention Program Committee, was vice-president in 1982 and president in 1983. He retained membership in Phi Delta Kappa, served on the Berks County Unit 14 Vo-Tech Advisory Committee and the PA Department of Education Finance Committee.

Dr. Reinecker was also very active in the communities where he lived, and was presently a member of Swamp Lutheran Church in Reinholds, the Rotary International Clubs: Exeter Township, Red Lion, and Denver/Ephrata; past president of Easter Seals of Berks County, Lancaster County Library System as a board member, Thrivent for Lutherans as a board member and vice-president, and he directed The United Way Campaign in 1984 for Red Lion area.

An avid reader, he enjoyed golfing, gardening, hunting, and traveling to places such as China, Viet Nam, Finland, England, Iceland, Hawaii, Guam, etc.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Dr. Randal C., husband of Kaarin Reinecker of Exeter Township; and Dr. Rick A., husband of Regina Reinecker of Adamstown; two daughters: Robyn R., wife of Dr. John Reihner of Washington, Pa.; Roslyn A., wife of Mark A. Bansner of Adamstown; seven grandchildren: Dr. Christian Reinecker and wife Colleen, James Reinecker, Stephen Reihner and wife Rachelle, Thomas Reihner and wife Elyse, Michelle Reihner and fiancé Cody Conner, Emily Bansner Linn and husband Dr. Colin Linn, Garrett M. Bansner and fiancé Victoria Summers; and two great-grandsons: Carson Garrett Bansner and Kolt David Reihner.

Services were held Sept. 8 at Swamp Lutheran Church, Reinholds, with Pastor Dennis L. Trout officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Full military honors will be accorded.

Catherine E. Good, 93, Ephrata, was head cook at Bergstrasse, enjoyed traveling

Catherine E. “Betty” Good, 93, of Ephrata, passed away Monday, Sept. 1, 2014, at the Ephrata Community Hospital.

She was born in Ephrata to the late John W. and Elsie W. (Christ) Mink and was the wife of the late W. Raymond Good who passed away in 2006. The couple had shared 66 years of marriage.

Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Ephrata, where she worked in the nursery. During her working years, she had been the head cook at the former Bergstrasse Elementary school. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and quilting. She especially loved family gatherings and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons: Gary L., husband of Judy (Anderson) Good of Cornwall; and John R., husband of Joan (Kosmela) Good of Ephrata; a daughter: Susan Ann Varian of Lancaster; seven grandchildren: Lynn, wife of Dean Auker; Michael Steininger; G. Todd, husband of Heidi Good; Ted Good; Tim, husband of Lisa Good; John R. Good Jr.; James, husband of Becky Good; and seven great-grandchildren: Amanda E. Auker, Evan P. Auker, Alison L. Auker, James Daniel Good Jr., Andrew J. Good, Grace L. Good and Pearl S. Good.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers: J. Randolph and William R. Mink.

Services were held Sept. 5 at First United Methodist Church, Ephrata, with Rev. Walter S. Carter officiating. Interment followed in the Bergstrasse Lutheran Cemetery

Carmen T. Flores Toro, 89, of Ephrata, passed away Monday, Sept. 1, 2014 at Lancashire Hall Nursing Home, Lancaster.

Carmen was born in Lajas, Puerto Rico, daughter of the late Ramon Flores and Fedela Toro.

Surviving are two sons: Manuel Morales of Puerto Rico and Luis Morales, husband of Kimberly, of Ephrata; a granddaughter: Xiomara Sebastian of New York, N.Y.; a great-grandson: Jaden Morales of Ohio; one brother: Ramon Flores; and three sisters: Alice, Divina, and Irma Flores, all of Puerto Rico.

In addition to her parents, Carmen was preceded in death by her grandson: Luis Morales.

Jacob H. Messner, 86, Durlach native, co-owned Green Lawn Garage, Phillies fan

Jacob H. Messner, 86, of Sinking Spring, passed away Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014, at Reading Hospital.

He was born in Durlach to the late David and Mazie (Wealand) Messner.

Jacob was the co-owner of Green Lawn Garage where he worked for many years. He enjoyed ballroom dancing and was an avid Phillies fan.

Jacob is survived by his wife: Mary Jane (Coldren) Messner; a son: Garson Messner, husband of Supanida Khomvilai; and a daughter: Karen Messner, wife of Daniel Kugler; two granddaughters: Grace and Siamantha Messner; and a brother: Charles, husband of Ruth Messner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Lester Messner.

Funeral services and interment are private at the convenience of the family.

Clifford Leroy Leaman, 57, Ephrata, Reading Equipment welder/machinist, avid motorcyclist

Clifford Leroy Leaman, 57, of Ephrata, passed away Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014, at his residence.

He was born in Goodville to Roy and Mildred (Martin) Leaman and was the husband of Stacie (Hersh) Leaman with whom he shared 24 years of marriage. The couple renewed their vows in 2012.

Clifford was a welder/machinist and most recently employed at Reading Equipment in Bowmansville. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. Clifford enjoyed riding motorcycles, cars and especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by three sons: Chad, husband of Alanna (Stoltzfus) Leaman of Lititz: Brandon Leaman, companion of Alison Schickel of Ephrata; Justin Hersh at home; a granddaughter: Mckayla Leaman; three brothers: Curt Leaman, New Holland: Chet Leaman, Blue Ball; Cory, husband of Mary Leaman, East Earl; two sisters: Cynthia, wife of Doug Lorah of Leola; and Christine, wife of Rick Reifsnyder of New Holland.

He was preceded in death by a brother: Carl Leaman.

Robert Harry Beck, 84, Lancaster, was office manager at Harrisburg Electrical Supply

Robert Harry Beck, 84, of Lancaster, formerly of York, passed away Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, at his residence.

He was born in Smoketown to the late Harry and C. Mae (Clark) Beck and was the husband of Dorothy Jane (Stutzman) Beck.

Robert was a member of the Bird In Hand United Methodist Church. He served his country in the Marines during the Korean War. During his working years he was the office manager for Harrisburg Electrical Supply. He was active with little league, serving as a coach in York County. He had volunteered at the York Fair for many years. Robert enjoyed golfing and was an avid baseball player in his youth.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Robert H., husband of Edwina (Campbell) Beck Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio: Phillip Eric Beck at home; a daughter: Sylvia Beck, wife of David Williams of Norfolk, Va.; four granddaughters: Charlotte Sykes, Emily Williams, Hanna and Morgan Beck.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Roy C. Beck; and a sister: Ruth Beck Denlinger Buckwalter.

A memorial service was held Sept. 12 at Bird In Hand United Methodist Church, Bird In Hand, with the Rev. Dr. Benjamin T. Goldberg-Taylor officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family with military honors accorded.

Donald C. Ray, 85, of Ephrata, passed away Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014, at the Ephrata Community Hospital.

He was born in Wheeling, W.Va. to the late Charles Ray and Mildred (Reynolds) Atkinson and was the husband of Margaret P. (Tennyson) Ray with whom he shared 64 years of marriage.

Donald had worked as an electrician for Raytheon. He was an avid Rams fan and loved NASCAR racing. He enjoyed family picnics and cooking on an open fire.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his six children: Donald, husband of Connie Ray; Donna, wife of Thomas Polen; Pamela, wife of Erich Shellenberger; Cynthia Pugh; Karen, wife of Tommie David; and Rebecca Ray; 19 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Timothy Andrew Wilk, 54, Renovo, retired fireman, avid outdoorsman, Steelers fan

Timothy Andrew Wilk, 54, formerly of Lancaster, died Monday Sept. 8, 2014, at his Renovo home.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Stanley A. Wilk of Ephrata and Sandra Putt De Rosa of York. Tim was the husband of Nancy Peck Wilk.

He graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School, Class of 1978, where he played on the soccer team. Tim served in the Army as Military Policeman Specialist 4th Class. He then worked as a fireman for Lancaster City until his retirement, at which time he moved to Renovo and married Nancy.

An avid hunter, fisherman, hiker, camper and kayaker, Tim belonged to the Lone Pine Rod & Gun Club in Potter County. He loved professional sports, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers. Tim’s memberships included American Legion Post 442, Sons of Italy and Fraternal Order of Eagles #516, all of Renovo; Cross Fork Sportsman’s Association and Lancaster AmVets Post 19.

Tim’s family includes his wife: Nancy; father: Stanley; and wife: Shirley; his mother: Sandra; brother: Brian Wilk, husband of Donna Ray of York; stepchildren: Stephanie Anton of Iowa, Pamala Friese of Lock Haven, Carrie Werts of Lock Haven and Randy Bibey Jr. of Valdosta, Ga.; and seven step-grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 13 at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, Lititz, with Pastor John Smucker officiating. Interment will be private.

Barbara I. Moore, 55, Lancaster, worked at Denver Health and Rehab Center, pet lover

Barbara I. Moore, 55, of Lancaster, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014 at Hershey Medical Center with family and friends at her bedside.

Born in Buffalo, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Jack B. and Harriet A. Klees Moore.

Barbara was a graduate of Lancaster Career and Technology Center with a degree in practical nursing and she received her bachelor’s degree in individual and family ftudies from Penn State University. She was employed at Denver Health and Rehabilitation Center in Denver.

Barbara was funny, strong-willed and determined. She was a fighter who lived independently for 25 years with a severe health condition. She loved playing bingo, watching TV, working with the elderly, helping others, and being at home with her pets, to whom she was devoted.

Surviving are three brothers: Jeffrey C. Moore, husband of Suzanne, of Elma, N.Y.; Timothy D. Moore, and Jack E. Moore, husband of Christina, all of Wernersville; three sisters: Deborah F. Myatt, of Scituate, Mass.; Katherine G. Treier, wife of Thomas, of Leola; Susan J. Moore, wife of Neil Merkowitz, of Alfred Station, N.Y.; 10 nieces and nephews; and nine great nieces and nephews.

A brother: Gregory H. Moore, preceded Barbara in death.

Mary E. (Snyder) High, 88, of Ephrata, passed away Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at Fairmount Homes.

She was born in East Earl Township to the late Martin and Anna (Zimmerman) Snyder and was the wife of the late Edwin N. High who passed away in 1999.

Mary was a member of the Groffdale Mennonite Church (Brick), Leola. During her working years, she worked at Hagy’s meat stand at Green Dragon. She enjoyed bird watching, sewing, quilting, tennis and board games.

She is survived by two sons: E. Ray, husband of Karen (Sollenberger) High of East Earl; and Kenneth L., husband of Susan (Stauffer) High of Stevens; three daughters: Ann Weaver of Lancaster; L. Jane, wife of Nelson Sangrey of Tyrone; and Darla F., wife of Michael Berg of Orlando, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; a brother: Martin, husband of Norma Snyder of Ephrata; two sisters: Mabel, wife of the late Weaver Burkholder of Akron; and Ruth, wife of John Zimmerman of Ephrata.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son: Glenn Eugene High.

Services were held Sept. 16 at Groffdale Mennonite Church, Leola, with Pastor Thomas Eshleman officiating. Interment took place in the adjoining church cemetery.

Jean E. Youndt, 91, of Reinholds, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, at Ephrata Manor.

She was born in Reading to the late John and Elsie (Bentz) Barto and was the wife of the late Carl S. “John” Youndt, who died May 23, 2000.

She was a member of the Peace United Church of Christ in Swartzville. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was an avid Phillies fan.

Jean is survived by six children: Marjorie, wife of Daniel Hornberger of Ephrata; Janet Youndt of Reinholds; Donna, wife of John Schreck of Ephrata; F. John “Skip,” husband of Claudia Hause of Sinking Spring; Wilson C., husband of Connie Youndt of Reinholds; and Allan L.Youndt of Reinholds; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a sister: Anna Mae Blotney.

A viewing will be held on Monday, Sept. 22, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Roseboro Funeral Home, 533 Walnut St., Denver, where funeral services will follow at 10:30 a.m., with Reverend William E. Hoch officiating. Interment will take place in the Muddy Creek Cemetery.

Arlene M. Shenk, 89, Weavers Market worker, attended Swamp Christian

Arlene M. Shenk, 89, a lifelong Ephrata area resident, passed away Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014, at Lancashire Hall Nursing Home, Lancaster.

Her husband, the late Marvin H. Shenk, passed away in June of 1998. Arlene was a daughter of the late Harvey and Jennie (Gray) Dennis.

She was a member of Swamp Christian Fellowship in Reinholds, and worked for Wilbur Chocolate in Lititz, and most recently for Weavers Markets in Denver.

Arlene is survived by two children: her son: Terry Shenk; and daughter: Marilyn, wife of Donald Heil, of Denver; two grandsons: Michael Shenk, husband of Kathy, of Denver; and Mark Burd, husband of Jenna, of Ephrata; one granddaughter: Angela, wife of Casey Firestone, of Kalispell, Mont.; six great-grandchildren: Ben, Madison, Eric, Mark, Derrick, and Kristina; and one sister, Dorothy Dickinson of Lancaster.

In addition to her husband and parents, Arlene was preceded in death by one son: Robert Shenk.

Funeral services will be held at Paul L. Gravenor Home For Funerals, 100 W. Main St., Ephrata, on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 11 a.m. Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Place of interment will be Memory Gardens, East Cocalico Township.

Elizabeth “Betty” L. Eshleman, 89, of Lancaster, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014, at Lancaster General Hospital.

She was born in Lancaster to the late John and Helen R. (Reinhart) Landis, and was the wife of the late J. Warren Eshleman who passed away in June 1999.

Betty was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Lancaster. She was a 1943 graduate of West Lampeter High School. During her working years, Betty was a teacher’s aide for the IU 13, and most recently had been a sales associate at Bon Ton until she retired in 2011.

She is survived by a daughter: Yolanda, wife of Walter Hackman Jr. of Ephrata; three grandchildren: Richard A., husband of Maggie Hackman; Robert, husband of Carol Hackman; Amy, wife of Mark Hewes; four great-grandchildren: Emma, Grace, Katie Hackman and Joel Hewes; a brother: Richard Landis; a sister: Jean Landis Immel; and two sisters-in-law: Freda Eshleman and Freda Landis.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother: John Landis.

Services were held Sept. 12 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Lancaster, with Pastor David Kreider officiating. Interment took place in the Willow Street Mennonite Cemetery.

Betty J. Harting Buckwalter, 85, Denver, formerly of Adamstown, died Sept. 10, 2014, in Maple Farms Nursing Center, Akron.

Born in Brecknock Township, a daughter of Alvin K. and Mamie (Kissinger) Kring, her first husband, Walter “Snap” Harting, died in 1980.

A member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Congregational Church, she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school, and was a former member of Peace UCC and Cocalico Christian Women. A 1946 Shillington High School graduate, she worked for Bollman Hat Company, Adamstown. Betty loved to read and cherished time with her family.

Surviving are her husband: David M. Buckwalter; son: Barry W. (Patricia Sanders) Harting, Stevens; daughters: Nancy Ann Hackman, Ephrata; Debra S. Zerbe, Stevens; grandchildren: Mindy Etter, Melissa Tommasi, Elizabeth Kramer, Emily Marie Harting, David C. Zerbe and Douglas L. Zerbe II; great-grandchildren: Christian and Kiley Etter; Tyler, Mya and Madison Tommasi; Josephine Kramer; Elijah Sacks; and Landon, Lorelei and Evan Zerbe; sisters: Shirley (Fred) Leathery, Ephrata; Beatrice Hassler; Barbara (Robert) Getz; and Mary (James) Stewart, all Denver; and a brother: Paul Kring, Denver.

Services were held Sept. 13 at St. Paul’s E. C. Church, Reamstown. Burial was in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Adamstown.

Charles A. Lindberg, 85, Ephrata, WWII USAF vet, enjoyed trips to cabin, gardening

Charles A. Lindberg, 85, of Ephrata, passed away Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014, at Denver Health & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born in Farmersville to the late Amos and Anna Lindberg and was the husband of Joyce (Kilhefner) Lindberg with whom he shared 62 years of marriage.

Charles was a member of the Ephrata Church of the Brethren. He served his country in the US Air Force during WWII. He was a member of the Burlington Hunting Camp, loved the mountains, going to the cabin and gardening.

In addition to his wife; he is survived by two sons: Jeff Lindberg of Sinking Spring, and Daryl Lindberg of Ephrata; four grandchildren: Justin, husband of Jamie Lindberg; Jared, husband of Jennifer Lindberg; Macey Lindberg and Mitchell Lindberg; three great-grandchildren: Camden, Joshua and Zoe; a brother: Melvin Lindberg of Ephrata; four sisters: Katherine Gensemer of Manheim, Helen McWilliams of Florida: Ethel Barlett of Lebanon; and Marion Dissinger of Akron.

In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by two brothers: John and Joel Lindberg.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 25 from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Ephrata Church of the Brethren, 201 Crescent Avenue, Ephrata. An additional visitation will be held on Friday, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church, followed by his funeral service at 10:30 a.m., with Pastor Rob Eshelman officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Keith A. Rutt, 43, Reinholds, team leader at Kalas, N. Lancaster Rod & Gun member

Keith A. Rutt, 43, of Reinholds, passed away of natural causes due to an unforeseeable heart condition, Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, at his home.

He was born in Ephrata, son to Larry and Donna Marie (Hirneisen) Rutt.

He was a social member of the Reinholds VFW and a life member of Northern Lancaster Rod & Gun. Keith worked as a team leader for Kalas.

In addition to his parents; Keith is survived by a daughter: Hannah K. Rutt: and a brother: Ross A., husband of Julie Rutt; his maternal grandfather: Donald Hirneisen of Oak Orchard, Del.; a nephew: Colton J. Rutt: and a niece: Larissa M. Rutt.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: Harold and Irene Rutt; and his maternal grandmother: Jean Hirneisen.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. and also from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut St., Denver, where funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., with Pastor Dennis Trout officiating. Interment will take place in the Swamp Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Keith’s memory may be made towards an education trust being set up for Hannah. Information for this trust will be available soon on the funeral home’s website.

Juliet C. Benson, 16, Ephrata native, enjoyed playing soccer, singing, working on her car

Juliet C. Benson, 16, of 210 Georgetown Road, Strasburg, joined her father in Heaven Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014.

Born in Ephrata, she was the daughter of Rachael A. Benson, fiancé of Mike Lugo, and the late Lucas Malmer, husband of Laura Malmer, of Ephrata.

A junior at Lampeter-Strasburg High School, she had attended Ephrata schools in her younger years. Juliet enjoyed spending time with her family, playing soccer, singing, and lighting up a room with her smile. She cared about other teens who were struggling. Proud to get her driver’s license, she also liked helping her step-dad work on her car.

She will also be lovingly missed by her siblings: Madalynn Becker, Nathaniel Malmer and Justice Lugo; maternal grandparents: Kathy, wife of Steve Ravegum, Ephrata; Jon, husband of Victoria Benson, Savannah, Tenn.; paternal grandparents: Kim and Mark Malmer, Ephrata; paternal great-grandfather: Dale, husband of Judy Rich, Robins, Iowa; maternal great-grandfather: John Adair, Lititz; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Her celebration of life service was held Sept. 20 at the Worship Center, Lancaster. Interment of ashes will be at the family’s convenience.

Donna Eby Shook, 55, of Weldon, Calif., died Sept. 12, 2014 after an auto accident.

She was the daughter of Lester and Anna Mae Eby, Ephrata, and the loving wife of Bill Shook. As a child, she attended Lincoln Elementary School, prior to moving to Califorinia.

Donna was owner and CEO of Simplicity Medical of Ridge Crest, Calif. She enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter and family. She loved the outdoors, especially going to the mountains and horseback riding. Sorely missed will be her Saturday morning phone calls. She was of the Christian faith.

Also surviving is a son: Cody, husband of Katrina Shook; a granddaughter: Jasmine; two brothers: Vernon Eby, Chicago; Dale (Liz) Eby, East Earl; a sister: LeAnn Ocasio (David), Ephrata; three nephews; one niece; and six great nephews.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. at Weaverland Mennonite Church, 210 Weaverland Valley Road, East Earl.

Robert Witmer, 60, Denver, worked for Terre Hill Concrete, repaired lawnmowers

Robert Witmer, 60, of Denver, passed away Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014 at his home after battling lung cancer.

He was the husband of Ruth Witmer and son of the late Wayne and Elizabeth Louise Witmer.

Robert worked for Terre Hill Concrete for the last 15 years and was very fond of all his coworkers. His favorite hobby was repairing lawnmowers with his best friend, Paul Rutter. He was also an avid Steelers fan.

In addition to his wife: Ruth; Robert is survived by two daughters: Erin Witmer of Denver; and Lori Vollmer, wife of Ben Vollmer, of Reinholds; and one granddaughter: Alexis Vollmer; a brother: Doug Witmer, husband of Darlene, of Higbee, Miss.; three sisters: Linda, wife of Bill Plecker of Deltona, Fla.; Marilyn, wife of Dave Bollinger of Annville; and Teresa, wife of Randy Wolfe of Palmyra; and a foster brother: Paul Uplinger, husband of Lavina, of Annville.

In addition to his parents; Robert was preceded in death by his sister: Beverly, wife of Henry Fink.

Services were held Sept. 22 at Paul L. Gravenor Home for Funerals, Ephrata, with Pastor David Brumbaugh officiating. Place of interment was Memory Gardens, E. Cocalico Township.

Michael W. Cuskey Jr., 95, Rehoboth, Del., formerly of Lancaster, passed away peacefully at Beebe Hospital surrounded by his family on Sept. 19. He formerly owned and operated the Landisville Tavern in Landisville. Michael graduated from Villanova University and was a long standing basketball season ticket holder. His son, Michael W. Cuskey III, hails from Ephrata.

Janet Carol Dutter passed away peacefully at home Sept. 20, after a long illness. Janet was retired from the microelectronics industry. She enjoyed doing crafts, gardening, traveling and spending time with family. Her daughter, Debra J. Heckman, lives in Terre Hill.

Verna R. Eby, 100, formerly of Paradise, died Sept. 19 at Landis Homes. Verna, her mother Fannie, and Verna’s grandmother Rebecca Diffenbach, all lived to 100 years of age. Verna was married to the late Bishop Clair Eby, who passed away in 1999. Clair and Verna operated a dairy farm outside of Paradise and served as bishop couple of the Paradise-Hershey Mennonite church district. A son, Kenneth, husband of Jeanette Eby, lives in Akron. A son, Lloyd, husband of Linda Eby, resides in Ephrata.

Barbara S. Fenstermacher, 67, a longtime resident of Rohrerstown, died Aug. 24. Barbara retired from the Kreutz Creek Elementary School in the Eastern York School District where she had been employed as a teacher for 35 years. One of Barbara’s favorite hobbies was cooking. Even in death, Barbara was a teacher by donating her body to science. Her daughter, Shelby, wife of Tim Sweigert, resides in Ephrata.

Darlene M. Goretzke, 76, of Lancaster, passed away Sept. 16 at Moravian Manor, Lititz. She was corporate secretary of the family business, Cash & Carry Parts, Inc. She was a member of Trinity U.C.C. of East Petersburg. Darlene enjoyed crocheting, crafts, music and serving others with her life. A son, Jay R. Goretzke III, lives in Stevens.

Arlene Redcay (Dissinger) Schlicher, 78, of Lititz, went to be with the Lord Sept. 18 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. Arlene was a member of the Ephrata Church of the Nazarene. She was also a member of the Friends of the Lititz Library and made crochet afghans for Project Linus. She enjoyed crafts, crocheting, making cards, and reading.
