Beatrice L. Parrish, 91, of Lancaster, passed away Friday, June 27, 2014 at Ephrata Manor.

She was the loving wife of the late Samuel R. Parrish who passed away in 1999. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Elvin C. and Indiana May (Wilson) Latschar.

After graduating from J.P. McCaskey High School in 1941 she began her career with Hamilton Watch where she worked during WWII. She then worked for Bell Telephone where she spent 20 years as an operator. Her most recent position was with Good & Plenty where she worked in the gift shop. In her spare time Bea enjoyed crafts, reading, and loved dancing. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her son: Craig Parrish (husband of Debra Hagmann) of Brownstown; and a daughter: Pamela Yohn (wife of the late Robert Yohn) of Lancaster; grandchildren: Elizabeth Snyder and Melissa Boagey; and great-grandchildren: Austin and Makena Snyder.

She was predeceased by a brother: Harry Latschar; sisters: Doris Myers and Pauline Coral; and a grandson: Joey Kemler.

Services were held July 2 at Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, Lancaster, with Rev. Timothy Mentzer officiating. Interment was in Riverview Burial Park.

Kenneth R. Sweigart, 85, formerly of Denver, retired from Kalas, Army Corporal,served in Korea

Kenneth R. Sweigart, 85, of Dushore, formerly of Denver, passed away Monday, June 23, 2014 at the Memorial Hospital in Towanda.

Kenneth was born, Sept. 8, 1928 in Denver the son of the late Harry B. and Kathryn Grimes Sweigart. He attended local schools and began working as an electrician’s helper. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1952 during the Korean War and was discharged as a Corporal in 1954 and continued on to eight years of service in the Army Reserve.

After returning from Korea, he began working for the PA Turnpike Commission for 16 years, and later began working for Kalas Mfg. Co, of Denver, a wire mfg. company from which he retired after 25 years of service.

He was a member of several Legion and VFW Posts in Denver. He very much enjoyed playing basketball, baseball and golf. In his later years, he enjoyed reading and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his son: Richard (Amy) Sweigart, Dushore; daughter: Kathy (John) Weinhold, Ephrata; sister: Mary Alice Hassler, Reamstown; four grandchildren: Chad Weinhold, Heather Weinhold Tryon, Melissa Sweigart and Richard Sweigart; and five great-grandchildren: Calen Sweigart, Seth Sweigart, Soren Tryon, Svea Tryon and Ava Weinhold.

Ken was predeceased by a brother: Rudolph Sweigart of N.Y.

Kenneth’s wishes were that there would be a private family service and that Memorial Contributions be sent to the Highlands Care Center, PO Box 10, Laporte, PA 18626

Elizabeth B. “Lizzie” Enck, 95, of Lititz, formerly of Swamp Bridge Road, Denver, passed away Monday, June 23, 2014, at United Zion Home.

She was born June 3, 1919 in West Cocalico Township to the late Menno and Stella (Gerhart) Burkholder and was the wife of the late Martin S. Enck who died in 2007.

She was a member of the Faith United Evangelical Lutheran Church, Denver, and enjoyed needlework and cooking. Elizabeth worked as a sewing machine operator for the former Walter W. Moyer Co. for 25 years.

Elizabeth is survived by a son-in-law: Melvin R. Ravegum of Lititz; three grandchildren: Elizabeth A. Smith, wife of Thomas; Rebecca S. Rabb, wife of Robert; and Andrew M. Ravegum, husband of Stephanie; and seven great-grandchildren: Kelly, Betsy, Ethan, Lauren, Aaron, Owen and Drew.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter: Lois B. Ravegum; brothers: Alvin and Rufus Burkholder; and two sisters: Alma Haldeman, and Helen Lutz.

Services were held June 28 at the United Zion Retirement Community Chapel, Lititz, with Reverend Ethan Levangood officiating. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery Annex, Denver, with Reverend Joseph Veres officiating.

Amanda G. Martin Wanner, 86, of Ephrata, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Hershey Medical Center.

She was born in Bowmansville to Jacob and Anna Mary (Gehman) Musser.

Amanda was a member of the Bible Fellowship Church of Ephrata. She was a 1945 graduate of East Cocalico High School.

Amanda is survived by five sons: Nathan, husband of Janet Martin of Lebanon; Harlan, husband of Linda Martin of Mohnton; Jay, husband of Karen Martin of Harrisburg; Marvin, husband of Valerie Martin of Hopeland; and Kenneth, husband of Stephanie Martin of Brickerville; a stepdaughter: Nancy Christ of Ephrata; three brothers: Titus, Phares, and Chester Musser; a sister: Verna Martin; 11 grandsons; nine granddaughters; one stepgrandson and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband: Nathan Martin who passed away in June 2003; second husband: Lee Wanner who passed away in May 2013; two brothers: John and Luke Musser; and two sisters: Mildred Rudy and Lydia Stauffer.

Services were held June 28 at Bible Fellowship Church, Ephrata, with Pastor Jason Hoy officiating. Interment was in the Memory Gardens Memorial Cemetery in East Cocalico Township.

Ruth Ann (Frankford) Beck, 67, of Ephrata, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Lancaster General Hospital.

She was the daughter of the late Ralph and Cora Fern (Sensenig) Frankford Ludwig and was the wife of Jeffrey D. Beck with whom she shared 46 years of marriage.

Ruth was a member of the Dove Westgate Church. She had worked at Walter W. Moyer, Hemmerichs in Denver, Aly-Wear in Ephrata as a quality control inspector and also at Bennett Truck Transport in Leola as an assistant dispatcher. Ruth enjoyed reading and loved spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed.

In addition to her husband; she is survived by two daughters: Tami L., wife of Don Burkholder Jr. of Ephrata; Jaclyn, wife of Keith Breneman of Clay; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers: Ralph, husband of Delores Frankford of Alabama, Eugene, husband of Linda Frankford of Bloomsburg; and a stepsister: Sandra Harding of Sinking Spring.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather: Lloyd L. Ludwig; three brothers: William, Robert and James Frankford; and two sisters: Fern Busser and Linda Yost.

Services were held June 20 at Evangel Assembly of God, Ephrata, with Pastor Scott Greiner officiating. Interment was in the Mellinger’s Union Cemetery.

Richard Eckenroad, 92, chief engineer for Reinholds Fire Co.

Richard Eckenroad, 92, of Reinholds, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2014, at Lebanon VA Hospital.

He was born in Rothsville to the late Richard W. Sammet and Katherine H. Nagle, and was raised by his adoptive parents, the late Kansas K. and Clara H. (Nagle) Ecenroad.

He was a member of Swamp Lutheran Church. Lifetime member of the Ephrata VFW, Chief Engineer for the Reinholds Fire Company for 37 years, member of Long Horn Hunting Camp in Tioga County, member of NRA, NLCFG, and the Gaines Feeder Club. He loved the outdoors with a passion for hunting and fishing. He spent many years on the Delaware Bay and mountains of Tioga County, hunting and fishing until age 90, and enjoyed traveling especially to Nova Scotia.

He served in the U.S. Army in WWII from August of 1942 to December of 1945 as a Sergeant in the 303rd Air Drone Squadron, 5th Air Force, Pacific Theater, Campaign New Guinea, Southern Philippines Luzon. He was a crew chief on B-17, hanger chief, and airplane mechanic, having worked on the engines, electrical, and fuselage structure. Fought on Milne Bay, Finchhafen, Gusilpa, White Beach Hollondia, and Tommy, all in New Guinea; Wake Island, Dulog Latoy, San Hosea Mindora, Subic Bay Luzon, Clark Field Luzon, and occupation troops in Seoul, Korea. He was awarded medals for Good Conduct, American Campaign, and WWII Victory bronze arrowhead; received a Philippines Liberation ribbon with one bronze star, Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal with two bronze stars, Mechanic badge, and Marksmen, 30 caliber carbine.

He was employed as a machine mechanic for George Bollman Hat Co. from 1938-1942, he served in the Military-Army Air Corps from 1942-1945, worked for Lancaster Auto and Salvage, Tom Celeberti, Dittman Motors & Lindgren Chrysler-Plymouth (from 1959-1986), all in Reading, and Bills Garage in Reinholds from 1950-1986.

Richard is survived by wife: Gladys I. (Beard) Eckenroad, with whom he would have celebrated 64 years of marriage on Aug. 15; two sons: Rolf R. Eckenroad of Reinholds, and Kurt N., husband of Barbara A. (Gockley) Eckenroad; and a grandson: Richard J. Eckenroad.

He was preceded in death by four half brothers: Irvin, Albert, Robert and Floyd Hornberger; and a half sister: Erla Schaeffer.ER20140702_BobiECKENROADRichard2

Leon E. Gehman, Jr., 29, of Reinholds, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at his residence.

He was born in Ephrata to Leon “Butch” and Elaine A. (Ressler) Gehman and was the husband of Tina M. (Brugger) Gehman.

Leon attended Reamstown Church of God. He had been employed at Premier Custom Built Cabinets, Inc. for the past two years and prior to that he had worked at Ingham’s Powder Coating and MGS Trailers, Inc. He enjoyed playing guitar, building model cars, fishing, gospel music and NASCAR, with Dale Earnhardt, Jr., being his favorite driver.

In addition to his wife and parents; Leon is survived by a step son: Dylan Garner of Ephrata; a step daughter: Danielle Schulze of Ephrata; four sisters: Doris Elaine Hartranft of Manheim, Brenda Lee Gehman of Clay, Julie A., wife of Keith Kolp of Ephrata, Laura wife of Steve Hambleton of Lancaster.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Lloyd and Ricky Gehman.

Services were held July 7 at Reamstown Church of God, Stevens, with Pastor Arthur T. Karick officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Kerry Owen Doyle, 82, former Ephrata Boro policeman, retired Acme supervisor, Navy vet

Kerry Owen Doyle, 82, of Lititz, passed away Friday, July 4, 2014, at Lancaster General Hospital.

He was born in Markham, Wash. to the late Larry and Margit (Wetteland) Doyle and was the husband of Susan M. (Dundore) Doyle with whom he shared four short but wonderful years of marriage.

Kerry was a member of the Lititz Moravian Church. He retired in 1994 as a supervisor of distribution for Acme Markets. In his early years, he was a police officer for the Ephrata Borough, and after retirement, he was a driver for Keller Bros. Ford, Lititz. He served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. He enjoyed military history, especially of WWII and Korea, old movies, doing maintenance and light home repairs. He also enjoyed traveling and was especially fond of his trips to Chincoteague Island with Sue.

In addition to his wife; he is survived by a son: Anthony L., husband of Connie (Greene) Doyle of Grapevine, Texas; two daughters: Angelique E., wife of Jeffrey Fritz of Mt. Joy, Karen L., wife of Kirk Buckwalter of Quincy, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife: Violet E. (Donmoyer) Doyle. Kerry was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

His service was held July 10 at Lititz Moravian Church, with Pastors Mark Breland and Dean Jurgen officiating. Interment took place in the Zeltenreich’s Cemetery, New Holland, with military honors accorded by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard.

Danielle C. McGlashon, 29, CPA for Bank of Pittsburgh, on board of Gamma Phi Beta Corp.

Following a very brief illness, Danielle C. McGlashon, 29, of Gibsonia, passed away in her sleep early on June 28, 2014, with her loving boyfriend of six years, Adam Bergamasco, by her side.

Danielle was born in Waterloo, Iowa in 1985 and is the daughter of Ruth Brantsen, of Albuquerque, N.M., and Michael McGlashon, of Denver, Pa.

Danielle graduated from Warwick High School in 2003. She then attended Duquesne University, graduating with distinguished honors in 2007, receiving her degree in accounting. Danielle then went on to become a CPA, having worked at KPMG, Federated Investors, and currently at PNC Bank in Pittsburgh.

Danielle was the Treasurer on the board of the Gamma Phi Beta Corporation, a sorority she enjoyed throughout college. Danielle also loved reading, spending time with friends and family, and bonding with her loyal cat, Dexter.

In addition to her parents: Danielle is survived by her sister: Emily, recent wife of Ryan Sowers of Philadelphia; a brother: Jacob McGlashon of Iowa City, Iowa; her stepmother: Tammy McGlashon: stepsister: Lindsey Kern; and stepbrother: Dalton Kern, of Denver; paternal grandparents: Richard and Janice McGlashon of Winter Springs, Fla.; maternal grandparents: Bill and Wilma Brantsen of Sioux Center, Iowa; her boyfriend: Adam Bergamasco of Pittsburgh; her furry friend: Dexter; and numerous loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends from all stages of her life.

Services were held July 3 at Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, Denver, with her uncle, Rev. Sherwin Brantsen, officiating.

Vicky L. Gehman, 44, of Denver, passed away July 4, 2014 of natural causes at the Ephrata Hospital.

She was the wife of Benjamin Gehman. Born in Ephrata, on Aug. 8, 1969, she was the daughter of Joyce A. (Texter) Neischwender, of Denver and the late James H. Neischwender.

She was a 1988 graduate of Cocalico High School. Vicky last worked at Weaver’s Market in Adamstown. She loved to listen to country music and attend carnivals.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by three nieces and her doggy, Cocoa.

Services were held July 8 at Lamm & Witman Funeral Home, Wernersville, with Pastor Arthur T. Karick officiating. Interment followed at Swamp Church Cemetery.

Isaac W. Martin, 82, of Ephrata, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Ephrata Community Hospital.

He was born in New Holland to the late Isaac and Ada Weaver Martin Seible and was the husband of Nora Z. (Sensenig) Martin.

Isaac was a member of the Shiloh Mennonite Church. In his early years he worked as a farmer and later he was the owner/operator of various business ventures in generator manufacturing and ice manufacturing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his eight children: Glenda M., wife of Leon R. Weaver of Stevens, Eugene S., husband of Rhoda Martin of Ephrata, Janet S., wife of Stanley Fox of Haiti, James L., husband of Rose Ann Martin of Akron, Charlene S. Mellinger of Ephrata, Isaac S., husband of Karla Martin of Newmanstown, Jerry S., husband of Carleen Martin of Ephrata, Randy S., husband of Jody Martin of Denver; 35 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren; two brother: Elmer, husband of Irene Martin of New Holland, Harlan, husband of Esther Martin of Latham, Miss.; three sisters: Arlene, wife of Allen Weaver of Quarryville, Mary, wife of the late John Nolt of Richland and Ada Mae, wife of Raymond Zimmerman of Peach Bottom.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-grandson: Isaac Weaver; a brother: Paul Martin; and three infant brothers.

Services were held July 9 at Martindale Mennonite Fellowship Center, Martindale, with Pastors Matt Eberly and Mike Allgyer officiating. Interment will take place in the Martin Family Cemetery, East Earl Township.

Judith K. Buchter, 75, Ephrata, former secretary for Ephrata, Cocalico school districts

Judith K. Buchter, 75, of Ephrata, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Ephrata Manor.

She was born in West Chester to the late Ivan and Kathryn (Ulmer) Kilby and was the wife of the late Glenn L. Buchter who passed away in 2012.

Judith was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Ephrata, where she started the Parkinson Pals Support Group, and she was a former member of the Brunnerville United Methodist Church where she served on many committees. She enjoyed time with her grandchildren, crocheting, embroidering, collecting antiques, books and camping with the See Son Rise and Set Camping Club. Judith had worked as an administrative assistant at Educator’s Life Insurance Company, Ephrata and Cocalico School Districts and Rothsville Medical Center. She was a 1957 graduate of Warwick High School.

She is survived by three children: Pam Harding of Ephrata, Mike Himes of Lititz, Carolyn, wife of Douglas Keith of Ephrata; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; a sister: Barbara Ann, wife of Bill Zimmerman of Manheim; and a brother: Merle Kilby of Lititz. Judith was also a foster parent to many children over the years.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a brother: Richard Clair Kilby.

Services were held July 7 at First United Methodist Church, Ephrata, with Pastor Walter Carter officiating. Interment took place in the Brunnerville United Methodist Cemetery.

Dr. David Frankhouser, 81, chemist, patent attorney, worked at Wyeth and Eli Lilly

Guina Garic Frankhouser announces with deep regret and profound sadness the death of her husband, Dr. David Edward Frankhouser, at the Lancaster General Hospital, Friday the 27th of June in his 81st year. He had resided in Ephrata since 1995.

David was born and raised in Shillington, where he graduated from the former Shillington High School. He then earned a BS in Chemistry and Mathematics at Albright College in Reading, and a PhD in Organic Chemistry/Biochemistry and Business Management from the University of Illinois at Champaign. Later in his professional career, David earned a law degree from Temple University and was admitted to practice law before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

Dr. Frankhouser’s career started as a chemist at Hercules Powder Company in Delaware. He later became the Project Coordinator for Research & Development for Wyeth Laboratories. Other career positions included intellectual property work at Eli Lilly and Chief Patent Attorney for an international research institute at Strasbourg, France, where he created the Law Department. David concluded his career back in the U.S. as Chief Patent Counsel and Director of Intellectual Property for Boehringer Ingelheim, a major pharmaceutical company based in Connecticut.

In 1994, David retired to pursue his many interests in science, law, history, music, and reading. He especially enjoyed his relationships with family and friends.

In addition to his wife, David is survived by three brothers: John, Sam, and Paul Frankhouser; brother-in-law: Michel Garic; their wives; and many nieces and nephews.

David will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Guina and the family express their sincere gratitude to the team of doctors and especially to all the nurses who brought to David their devoted care and endless support.

Nancy Bishop Risser, 79, worked at Sperry, car dealership, 50-year-plus member of Eastern Star

Nancy Bishop Risser, 79, Ephrata, died Tuesday, July 1, 2014, in Lancaster General Hospital.

Born in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Benjamin “Benny” Carl and Mary (Killian) Bishop, her husband of 54 years, James H. Risser, died Oct. 22, 2011.

An Ephrata High School graduate, Nancy received her Bachelor of Business Degree in 1956 from Elizabethtown College, from where her daughter also graduated. She worked in Human Resources for Sperry New Holland and in early years for her father’s car dealership, Benny Bishop Chrysler Plymouth, Ephrata. She was a 50-plus-year member of The Order of Eastern Star. A member of Bethany United Church of Christ, she was an avid reader and member of the Book Club Circle and volunteered at Ephrata Playhouse in the Park. She cherished her family and had a special relationship with her grandchildren.

Surviving is her daughter: Ann Elizabeth, wife of Brian Vaughan Beal, Collegeville; and grandchildren: Shawn Nolan, Erin Alexandra and Delaney Katherine Beal.

Erv S. Hoover, 71, Akron Nursery owner, area civic leader

Erv S. Hoover, 71, of Akron went home to be with the Lord Saturday, July 5, 2014 after a brief battle with cancer.

He was married 15 years on June 25, to Joyce A. Martin. Born on March 29, 1943 in Earl Township, he was the son of the late Franklin and Magdalena Z. (Sensenig) Hoover.

Erv was a member of the Ephrata Church of the Brethren for more than 40 years. He also attended Neffsville Mennonite Church for a number of years. Erv was the founder, owner and current president of the Akron Nursery. He was a member and past president of the Akron Lions Club, designing and assisting in the building of the gazebo at the Lloyd H. Roland Memorial Park during his presidency. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Ephrata Blue Lodge #665 F.&A.M. and Lancaster Lodge of Perfection. Erv was a member of and past exalted ruler of the Ephrata Lodge B.P.O. Elks #1933. He was the past commodore of the Rajah Yacht Club. Erv enjoyed traveling and spending time at the mountains and the shore. He enjoyed restoring antique Oliver tractors and was an avid Harley rider.

In addition to his wife, Joyce; he is survived by his children: Tammy, wife of Kevin Campbell of Lancaster, Todd Everett, partner of Jack Yohn of Lancaster, Kelsey Martin of Lititz, and Amanda Martin of Akron. He is also survived by five grandchildren: and one great-granddaughter. Also surviving are his mother-in-law: Arlene K. Martin of New Holland; and his beloved puppy: Isabelle. Erv is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Arlene Martin of Terre Hill, Franklin N, married to Esther (Garman) Hoover of New Holland, Mary Eberly of Blair County, and John Aaron, married to Anna (Zimmerman) Hoover of Denver.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: David and LeRoy.

Services were held July 9 at Ephrata Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Rob Eshelman and Rev. Dr. Linford King officiating. Interment was private at the convenience of the family in Witness Park.

James S. Ferry, 51, Denver, former CHS football player, Army vet

James Stuart Ferry, 51, of Denver, died unexpectedly Sunday evening, July 6.

Born in Lansdale, Jim was a 1982 graduate of Cocalico High School. He played football all four years and would fondly reminisce about his multiple touchdowns during the 1981 Ephrata-Cocalico game.

Jim proudly served in US Army from 1982-1988. He had been employed by Case New Holland for 26 years as master welder. He often shared photos with close friends displaying the latest farm equipment project on which he’d been working and stating with a with a big grin; “I’m feeding the world.” Friends knew he loved what he was doing. He also served on Denver Borough Recreation Committee from 2007 through 2012.

He had a special charm to him. In any new face, he saw a chance to make a new friend. Not only that, but to capture the moment. He was selfless to strangers in need by quickly paying for a hot meal or warm place to spend the night.

He was a proud father who enjoyed every moment spent with his children &tstr; whether coaching soccer, teaching them to swim, fish or ride a bike. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and Eagles fan. His smile and kind heart will be missed.

He is survived by his wife: Lisa (Hoppman) Ferry; and children, Nicholas and Anja, both at home; his parents: Ann Stuart of West Lawn, and Ronald and Marlene Ferry of Clay; sister: Elice (wife of Albert Darrenkamp) of Lancaster; two brothers: Ronald Ferry (husband of Karen) of Phoenixville and David Ferry (husband of Pascha) of Williamsport; seven nieces; and four nephews.

The funeral service is set for Saturday, July 12, at 11 a.m., at Swamp Lutheran Church, 275 Swamp Bridge Road, Reinholds. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Internment will take place in a private ceremony at a later date.

Philip M. Horning, 65, died July 12 after a brief illness. For 20 years, Philip was a real estate appraiser, specializing in farmland preservation for various Pennsylvania counties. Philip earned a bachelor’s degree from University of Minnesota and pursued graduate degrees in journalism and psychology. His sister, Eileen (Horning) Byler, lives in Akron.

Jereline E. Rhen, 92, formerly of Rheems, passed away June 30 in Casper, Wyo. She was a school lunch and playground aide at the Rheems Elementary School. She enjoyed her dogs, growing flowers, dancing and traveling with her husband. Her son, Gerald Rhen, husband of Susan Killian Rhen, resides in Ephrata.

Mary Jane Myers, 92, active in many local organizations

Mary Jane Kready Myers, 92, a resident of Landis Homes Retirement Community and formerly of Ephrata, peacefully entered her eternal home July 5, 2014.

She was born in Ephrata, daughter of the late Elam and Elizabeth Stamm Kready. Her husband Levi “Jack” S. Myers preceded her in death in December 2000.

A member of the class of 1940 from Ephrata High School, she attended Lancaster Business School and worked as a legal secretary in law offices in Lancaster in the 1940s. She also served on the rationing board in Ephrata during WWII. She was a long time member of Bethany UCC in Ephrata and was married in the church in 1946. Mary Jane was very active in various civic organizations in the Ephrata area for many years. She also served as a Welcome Wagon hostess in the 1970s and later enjoyed her part time job at the Ephrata Cloister Gift Shop.

Mary Jane was very active in the Ephrata Women’s Club and their charity balls and beautification projects in Ephrata. Mary Jane enjoyed hosting dinner parties and entertaining at her home. She loved people and was a very dedicated daughter, wife and mother. If someone was in need of a meal or a ride to a doctor, Mary Jane could be counted on to be on hand at a moment’s notice.

Mary Jane and her husband enjoyed traveling to the 8th Air Force reunions each year. They made many friends and one of Mary Jane’s highlights was hosting the 8th Air Force 388th Group in Lancaster County in 1977. No matter where their travels took them in the world they would make lifelong friends who loved to visit Ephrata and Lancaster County.ER20140716_CobiMyersMaryJane1

Mary Jane loved the land and the historic home she was born in on North Academy Drive. In 2007 she moved to Landis Homes where she enjoyed playing bridge and other card games while in independent living. Mary Jane loved riding her scooter and visiting friends at Landis Homes. Her smile and encouragement brightened many days for people at Landis Homes.

Mary Jane is survived by a daughter: Delphine Dawn Heimer of East Hempfield Twp. Lancaster, wife of Dr. Paul G. Heimer, Jr.

Delphine wants to thank the loving and caring staff at Landis Homes; especially the three years she was a resident in the Birch House. Also, Hospice was wonderful these past few months. In the past year of her life she enjoyed visits by Onyx the beautiful black cat who was born at Landis Homes and adopted by a staff member. Onyx would visit each week and mother became an advocate of pet therapy.

A celebration of Mary Jane’s life will be held at Bethany West Chapel at Landis Homes, 1001 E. Oregon Rd., Lititz on Wednesday, July 23 at 11 a.m. with Chaplain Jim Leaman officiating. Family visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Elam W. Nolt, 93, chicken farmer, worked at Galen’s and Weaver Poultry

Elam W. Nolt, 93, of Ephrata, formerly of East Earl and Stevens, died Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Lincoln Home, Ephrata, after a brief illness.

Born in New Holland, he was the son of the late Mahlon and Ella (Wenger) Nolt. His wife, Esther G. (Musser) Nolt, died Nov. 24, 2010.

Elam was a chicken farmer most of his life, but he also worked at Gehman Feed Mill in Denver, Royer’s Bakery in Denver, Galen’s Hardware in Ephrata, and Victor F. Weaver Poultry in New Holland, retiring in 1984. Elam was a member of the Centerville Mennonite Church and he enjoyed woodworking.

Surviving are eight children: Arlene, married to Donald Groff of Stevens, Marvin, married to Rhoda (Kolb) Nolt of Stevens, Dorothy, married to Dale Weaver of East Earl, Lois, married Ivan Ray Sensenig of Ephrata, Arthur, married to Erla (Sensenig) Nolt of Clare, Mich., Carl, married to Joyce (Nolt) Nolt of Peach Bottom, Warren, married to Lois (Graybill) Nolt of Dodge Center, Minn., and James, married to Rosene (Nolt) Nolt of Peach Bottom; 39 grandchildren; and 107 great- grandchildren.

Preceding him in death was a daughter: Marian Groff; two grandchildren: Daryl Nolt and Rosalie Nolt; a sister: Elizabeth Weber; and three brothers: Milton, Elmer, and Edwin Nolt.

Services were held July 14 at Centerville Mennonite Church, Ephrata. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery. Kindly omit flowers.

Larry G. Lehman, 75, Denver, served in Marines, Army, turnpike Sunoco Oil worker

Larry G. Lehman, 75, of Denver, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at his home.

He was born in Brickerville to Oliver and Erma (Burkhart) Lehman.

He was a U.S. Veteran of both the Army and the Marines. Larry worked for Sunoco Oil on the Pennsylvania Turnpike for many years.

Larry is survived by his companion: Ella Hainley; a son: Justin G. Hainley; a daughter: Angela S. King; a brother: Paul; and four sisters: Betty, Nancy, Shirley and Erma.

He was preceded in death by four brothers: Galen, Reed, Norman, and Oliver Jr.; and two sisters: Arlene and Bonnie.

Graveside services were held July 12 at the Memory Gardens Memorial Cemetery, Ephrata, with Reverend Jeff Dunlevy officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Larry’s name may be made to the Lebanon VA Medical Center, 1700 South Lincoln Avenue, Lebanon, PA 17042.
