Cynthia D. Arteaga, 55, Ephrata, animal lover, enjoyed home decorating, flower gardening

Cynthia D. Arteaga, 55, of Ephrata, and formerly of Lititz, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2019, at the WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital.

Born in Richmond, Ind., she was the daughter of Ricky, husband of Phyllis Rowe of Virginia; and her mother, the late Diana Cross Stauffer; and the stepdaughter of William N. Stauffer of Lititz.

A homemaker, Cynthia was the loving wife of Esteban Arteaga, and they would have observed their 20th wedding anniversary in December of this year.

Cynthia enjoyed home decorating and flower gardening. She had a deep passion for all animals including her two dogs and cat that she cared for.

Surviving in addition to her husband, father, stepfather, and stepmother, is a beloved daughter: Alejandra T. Arteaga at home; a son: Joey; seven sisters: Ricka, Nicole, Tracy, Kelli, Kari, Carla, Angela; a brother: Michael; and many nieces and nephews.

Services for Cynthia will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Ada S. Reiff, 93, Ephrata, homemaker, member of New Holland Mennonite Church

Ada S. Reiff, 93, of Ephrata, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019, at the home of her daughter in Fleetwood.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harvey S. Fox, in 1978, and her second husband, Elam M. Reiff, in 1999.

Born in West Earl Township, she was the daughter of the late Eli and Lizzie (Sauder) Shirk.

A homemaker, she was a member of New Holland Mennonite Church, Groffdale Conference.

Surviving are three children: Leon S. Fox, Denver; Marlin S. married to Esther (Zimmerman) Fox, Owen, Wisc.; Edna S. married to Ivan Martin, Jr., Fleetwood; a daughter-in-law: Mary Z. (Leid) Fox, Ephrata; a son-in-law: Daniel, married to Erla (Reiff) Zimmerman, Shippensburg; seven step-children: Alta, widow of Paul Rissler, Martindale; Mary, married to Allen Zimmerman, East Earl; Vera, married to Walter Brubaker, Fleetwood; Esther, married to Ben Oberholtzer; Lizzie, married to Aaron Horning, all of Shiloh, Ohio; Paul, married to Verna Reiff; and Edwin, married to Emma Reiff, all of Leola; 30 grandchildren; 73 step-grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son: Alvin S. Fox; a daughter: Esther S. Zimmerman; and three step-children: Martha married to John Zimmerman; Chester, married to Anna Reiff; and Edna, married to Melvin Martin.

Services were held Oct. 14 at Groffdale Mennonite (Frame) Church, with Bishop Titus Martin officiating. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery. Kindly omit flowers.

Raymond H. Good, 81, self-employed bricklayer, Dove Westgate member, great storyteller

Raymond H. Good, 81, of Ephrata, passed away Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital.

He was born in Goodville to the late Eli and Blanche (Storey) Good, and was the husband of Elmeda Riehl Hollinger Good.

Raymond was a member of Dove Westgate Church where he was a member of the church small group and Senior Daytimers Bible Study. He was also a member of the Landisville Camp Meeting Association, where he was on the grounds committee and did volunteer work. During his working years, he was a self-employed bricklayer. He was a NASCAR fan, enjoyed woodworking, camping, hunting and fishing. Raymond was a great storyteller and was well known for his sense of humor and helping others.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters: Marjorie, wife of Bill Orth of Shillington; Beverly Evans of Wyomissing; granddaughters: Erin, wife of Matt Shutt; Emily Evans; great-grandsons: Tyler and Carson Shutt; stepchildren: Dale R., husband of Ann Hollinger; Anita Hollinger Bingaman, wife of Eric Parker; Michael Hollinger; Kenneth, husband of Janet Hollinger; eight step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and siblings: Kathryn Crills, Mildred Dissinger, Earl and John Good.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-granddaughter; and siblings: Wayne, Pete and Lloyd Good, Alice Ziemer, Martha Trupe, Mary Fraime, and Mabel Guldin.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Oct. 17 at 11 a.m., at Dove Westgate Church, 1755 W. Main St., Ephrata, with Pastor Leon Weaver officiating. A time to receive friends and offer condolences with follow the service at the church. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Jay P. Ruppert, 86, electrician, enjoyed Cape May, NASCAR, showing his ‘77 Grand Prix

Jay P. Ruppert, 86, of Ephrata, passed away Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019.

Jay was a son of the late Lewis and Hettie (Martin) Ruppert and the loving husband of 60 years to Fay D. (Lied) Ruppert, until her passing in January 2018.

He was a graduate of the Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology and worked as an electrician for over 30 years with IBEW Union. As a car enthusiast, he kept his ‘77 Grand Prix in its best original condition, taking it to many car shows. He was a member of the Pontiac Oakland car club and an avid NASCAR fan. Occasionally Jay would put on his flip flops and take Fay to the beach; Cape May was their favorite. He was a faithful member of the Grace Point Church of the Nazarene.

Jay is survived by his two children: Rodney R. (Judith L.) Ruppert of Lancaster; and Gail A. (Michael G.) Goodman of Ephrata; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Jay was predeceased by his sister: Betty; and brother: Kenny.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, at 11 a.m. at Good Sipler Funeral & Cremation Centre, 34-38 N. Reamstown Road, Reamstown. Visitation will be prior to service from 10:30 to 11 a.m.

Clarence Loose Jr., 86, Korea vet, Budd Trailer worker, New Holland VFW member, antiquer

Clarence Loose Jr., 86, of Broken Arrow, Okla., formerly of Ephrata, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019, at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital.

He was born in Lititz to the late Clarence and Eva (Nagle) Loose, and was the husband of the late Arlene Mae (Hersh) Loose, who died in 2004.

Clarence served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. During his working years, he was employed in the shipping and receiving department of Budd Trailer. Clarence was a member of New Holland VFW and he enjoyed buying and selling antiques.

Clarence is survived by two daughters: Cynthia Lee (Webster) Heine of Broken Arrow, Okla.; and Wendy Sue (Robert) Byus of Myerstown; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister: Gloria (John) Varner of Stevens; and a brother: Richard Loose of Bernville.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut St., Denver. A graveside service will take place at 2:30 p.m. at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

Melvin M. Redcay, 75, Denver, retired truck driver, LCBC member, enjoyed transporting Amish

Melvin M. Redcay, 75, of Denver, was called home by his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019.

He was married 39 years to Donna Elaine Trego Redcay. Born in Lititz, he was the son of the late Henry and Lizzie Martin Redcay.

Melvin was a retired truck driver. He enjoyed doing puzzles and driving for the Amish and Mennonites. He attended LCBC in Ephrata.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons: Gary, husband of Jennifer Redcay of Lititz; and Scott, husband of Jennifer Peachey of Lancaster; three daughters: Kelley Lenhardt of Myerstown; Lisa, wife of Barry Eberly of Bowmansville; and Mellania, wife of Adam Byers of Akron; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and 10 siblings: Lena Mae Weaver, Lizzie Leid, Luella Garman, Alta Stauffer, Thelma Horst, Mabel Martin, Elsie Beiler, Ivan Redcay, Lester Redcay, and Glenn Redcay.

He was preceded in death by brothers: Clarence, Henry, and Elmer Redcay.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 23, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Eckenroth Funeral Home, 209 E. Main St., Terre Hill. Services and interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Martha M. Martin, 83, Ephrata, homemaker, mother of five, member of Pequea Mennonite

Martha M. Martin, 83, of Ephrata, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2019, at Hershey Medical Center.

Her husband, Samuel M. Martin, survives. Born in Earl Township, she was the daughter of the late Eli O. and Mattie (Martin) Nolt.

She was a homemaker and a member of Pequea Mennonite Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by five children: Charlotte, married to Elvin Wenger, Ephrata; Debra, married to Paul Zimmerman, Ephrata; Daryl, married to Marian Martin, Gap; Gladys, married to Glen Hurst, Narvon; S. Myron, married to Diane Martin, Olar, S.C.; 23 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; four siblings: Ivan M., married to Mary (Oberholtzer) Nolt, Ephrata; David Nolt, Ephrata; Elizabeth Mae, married to Moses N. Good, Mount Joy; and Allen M., married to Florence (Horst) Nolt, New Holland.

She was preceded in death by six siblings: Titus M. Nolt, Ella M. Nolt, Eli M. Nolt, Martin M. Nolt, John M. Nolt, and Irvin M. Nolt.

Services were held Oct. 18 at at Pequea Mennonite Church, with Bishop Curvin Zimmerman, Loren Nolt, Paul Newswanger and Marlin Zimmerman officiating. Interment was in the adjoining church cemetery. Kindly omit flowers.

Richard G. Weaver, 76, carpenter, Cocalico S.D. retiree, devoted grandfather, active at church

Richard G. Weaver, 76, of New Holland, died on Monday, Oct. 14, 2019, at Lancaster General Hospital.

Born in Terre Hill, he was the son of the late Rufus and Ella Mae (Good) Weaver.

Surviving are two sons: R. Michael, married to Sheri Weaver, Gap; and Stephen D., married to Lisa Weaver, Lititz; three grandchildren, his former spouse: Joyce (Stauffer) Weaver; and six siblings: Mildred G. Weaver, David G. Weaver, Martha G. Nolt, James G. Weaver, Daniel G. Weaver, and Miriam G. Weaver.

He was preceded in death by a stillborn son: Dwayne Scott Weaver; and a sister: Ruth Ann Groff.

Most of his working life was spent as a carpenter with Weber Builders and he retired from Cocalico School District, working in buildings and grounds maintenance.

As a carpenter, Richard paid attention to detail and specialized in the trim finishing aspects of home construction. He took on some big construction projects in addition to his job. In 1977, he worked with Joyce and other family members as well as colleagues from various trades to build a home for his family in Denver. In 1990, Richard coordinated volunteers to build an addition to the Blue Ball Church of the Brethren. He also served as a trustee at the church for many years.

Richard enjoyed tractor pulls and NASCAR racing. Spending time with his grandchildren brought a smile to his face.

A memorial service was held Oct. 19 at the Blue Ball Church of the Brethren. Interment was in the adjoining church cemetery.

Gail M. Dillon, 64, bookkeeper, Grace Point Church member, enjoyed grandkids, camping

Gail M. Dillon, 64, of Stevens, passed away on Monday, Oct. 21, 2019 with her family by her side, at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy.

Gail was born in Bradford County on Oct. 12, 1955, a daughter of the late Bruce and Margaret (LaMont) McClelland. She the wife of Dale Douglas Dillon. Gail and Doug celebrated 45 years of marriage this past June 22.

She worked as a bookkeeper after receiving her education at the former Elmira Business Institute and was a member of Grace Point Church of the Nazarene in Ephrata.

Gail grew up on a dairy farm and loved the outdoors. She enjoyed watching Penn State football games and camping with her family, but especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She will be lovingly missed by her husband: Doug; three children: Amanda, wife of Steve Kintzler; Adam Dillon, husband of Julie; and Bradley Dillon, husband of Jennifer, all of Ephrata; eight grandchildren: Manessah, Angela, Alexander, Rachel, Benjamin, Elizabeth, James, and Ryan; one sister: June, wife of Tom Gordon of Littlestown; two brothers: Fay McClelland, husband of Barb, of Troy; and Dale McClelland, husband of Linda, of Troy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received on Thursday, Oct. 24 from 2 to 3 p.m. at Paul L. Gravenor Home for Funerals, 100 W. Main St., Ephrata. Memorial services officiated by the Rev. Mary Jane Kirby will follow at 3 p.m.

John N. Schutter, 95, N. American Rockwell foreman, A-town Lions member, Dutch bowler

John N. Schutter, 95, a resident of Ephrata Manor, formerly of Adamstown, passed away Friday, Oct. 18, 2019.

Born in Mohnton, he was a son of the late John L. and Rhea (Epler) Schutter, and husband of the late Mary Jane (Leed) Schutter, who passed in 2011.

John was a graduate of the Mohnton High School. He was a foreman and worked for North American Rockwell in West Reading for over 45 years. He was a former Adamstown Lions Club member and served as vice president of the former Hilltoppers senior group in Gouglersville. He loved to eat out and he was an avid bowler at Dutch Lanes. He also enjoyed golf and was a Phillies baseball fan.

John is survived by his son: John C. Schutter, husband of Sandra (Snader) of Stevens; two grandsons: J. Jason and Jared Schutter; sister: Loretta Sterling; special friend: Virginia Frankford, of Adamstown, and her daughter, Natalie.

He was predeceased by four siblings: Richard Schutter, Miriam Schutter, Grace Bachman, and Betty Archer.

Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 24, from 10 to 11 a.m., with a memorial services at 11 a.m. at Good Sipler Funeral & Cremation Centre, 34-38 N. Reamstown Road, Reamstown. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Adamstown.

Emma W. Hoover, 93, Ephrata, native of Clay Township, member of Springville Mennonite

Emma W. Hoover, 93, of Ephrata, formerly of Clay Township, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019, at Lincoln Christian Home.

She was born in Clay Township to the late Edwin Z. and Ella O. (Weaver) Hoover.

She was a member of Springville Mennonite Church.

Emma is survived by a sister: Esther Hoover; and a sister-in-law: Katie Hoover.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers: Menno, Eli, Phares, Aaron, Edwin and Norman Hoover; and two sisters: Anna Hoover and Mary Stauffer.

Services were held Oct. 21 at Springville Mennonite Church, Ephrata, with Bishop Melvin H. Martin officiating. Interment took place in the adjoining church cemetery. Kindly omit flowers.

Emily R. Lloyd, 19, EHS Class of ‘18, worked at Patterson Logistics, enjoyed archery

Emily R. Lloyd, 19, of Ephrata, passed away on Friday, Oct. 18, 2019.

She was born in Ephrata to Clayton E. and Amy E. (Doutt) Lloyd.

Emily took pride in working as an order packer for Patterson Logistics. She was a graduate of Ephrata High School, class of 2018. She enjoyed painting, drawing, being outdoors, archery, spending time with her cats, playing video games, D & D, and enjoying time with friends and family.

In addition to her parents, Emily is survived by her brother: Jason R. Lloyd; her maternal grandfather: Richard F. Jr., husband of Karen J. Doutt; her maternal grandmother: Sally A. Doutt; and her paternal grandmother: Cheryl A. Lloyd.

She was preceded in death by paternal grandfather: Stephen P. Lloyd.

Family, friends, and others whose lives Emily touched are invited to a visitation on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Stradling Funeral Home, 30 N. 9th St., Akron, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. with Pastor John Courchesne officiating. Interment will take place in the Mt. Zion Evangelical Cemetery.

She was loved and will be dearly missed.

Arlene G. Whitcraft, 93, Hess Family Practice nurse, worker at Schreiber, enjoyed family, friends

Arlene G. Whitcraft, 93, of Lititz, died peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019, at Lancaster General Hospital.

Born in Chapman, she was the daughter of the late Clark and Alice Flick Fogel. Arlene was the loving wife of the late Harold J. Whitcraft, who died in January of 1996.

In 1946, Arlene graduated from nursing school at Preston Retreat Hospital in Philadelphia. In her early years she was a licensed practical nurse working for Dr. Paul Hess Family Practice in Lititz. Arlene through the years worked at the former Coulson Heel Company, Akron; and at F.R. Schreiber Company in Lititz. She attended the former St. John’s Lutheran Church, Brickerville. Arlene’s interests included visiting the family cabin, playing cards and table games, going out to lunch with her friends, and rooting for her favorite NASCAR driver Jimmy Johnson, or the Phillies. She had a deep passion for her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are two sons: Preston H. Whitcraft of Lititz; Perry L., husband of Wendy Whitcraft of Neffsville; a daughter: Penny L., wife of Michael Gerfen of Lititz; three grandchildren: Josh, husband of Leann; Katie Jo; and Jonathan; two sisters: Doris Hummel of Bath; and Evelyn. wife of Paul Archibald of Wickliffe, Ohio.

Preceding her in death are three sisters and seven brothers.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Arlene’s funeral service at the Buch Funeral Home, 216 S. Broad St., Lititz on Friday, Oct. 25, at 11:30 a.m. There will be a viewing on Friday morning from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Brickerville.

Mathew L. Ruoss, 29, E.R.C. driver, Garden Spot Fire Rescue volunteer, enjoyed camping, darts

Mathew L. Ruoss, 29, of New Holland, formerly of Akron, died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019.

Mathew worked as a truck driver for E.R.C., (Environmental Recovery Corporation), Lancaster.

He served his community as a volunteer fire fighter with the Garden Spot Fire Rescue and enjoyed beer tasting, camping, campfires, fish tanking, playing darts, and spending time with his family, friends, and especially his son.

Surviving are his son: Brantley Ruoss, at home; his girlfriend: Sarah Ames of New Holland; a sister: Jess (Phil) Bleiler of Manheim, and her children, Bennett Ruoss and Garrett Bleiler; a brother: Dakota (Calli) Benedict of Ephrata, and his children, Penny Riggings and Isaiah Benedict; a stepfather: Heiland Benedict and his fiancée, Kim Longenecker; and an aunt: Jody (Joe) Shimp of Ephrata.

Preceding him in death are his grandparents: Marty and Sylvia (Good) Eitnier.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. at the Garden Spot Fire Rescue Department headquarters, 339 E. Main St., New Holland.

Joseph J. Lewis Sr., WWII vet, Lewis Gulf Auto owner, athlete, coach, devoted to family

It is with great sadness that the family of Joseph J. Lewis Sr. of Ephrata announces the passing of Joseph on Oct. 21, 2019, at Ephrata Manor nursing home.

Joseph was born Aug. 23 1926 in Philadelphia, son of Agnes Lewis (née Gordon), and Harry Lewis (née Luigi Ghizzoni). He was predeceased by a brother: Vincent Lewis; and sister: Ann Lewis Miller.

Joseph is lovingly remembered and survived by his wife: Suzanne Knox Lewis, formerly of Nesquehoning; children: Joseph Lewis (Pam) of Cazenovia, N.Y.; Mary Agnes Lewis Kuhn (Paul) of Malvern; James Lewis (Dana) of Lancaster; David Lewis (Janine) of Downingtown; 12 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and his brother: Gerard Lewis of Wayne.

Joseph attended North Catholic High School and served in the U.S. Navy in World War II.

Joe worked as a mechanic of JD Morrisey, Budd Company and owned and operated Lewis Gulf Auto Repair in Mayfair section of northeast Philadelphia with his brother Vincent for over 40 years. During those years, Joe was someone who developed many friendships with his customers with his engaging and generous nature toward all who he met.

Joe was very active in playing sports growing up in Holmesburg section of Philadelphia where we played for and coached the Holmesburg Ramblers football club.

He was also very passionate and dedicated to family and enjoyed spending time his children and grandchildren. He was of the Catholic faith and a member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church and Knights of Columbus of Ephrata.

Ivan S. Zimmerman, 88, dairy farmer, Weaverland Menn. member, father of 10, enjoyed singing

Ivan S. Zimmerman, 88, of Ephrata, formerly of East Earl, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2019, after a brief illness, at Lincoln Christian Home.

Born in Earl Township, he was a son of the late Noah S. and Lizzie (Sauder) Zimmerman. He was married 66 years on Nov. 23 to Ruth Z. (Horst) Zimmerman.

He was a member of Weaverland Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference, was a dairy farmer, and enjoyed singing.

Surviving in addition to his wife are 10 children: Glen (Luella) Zimmerman of East Earl; Ivan (Mildred) Zimmerman of Ephrata; David (Ruth Ann) Zimmerman of East Earl; Lewis (Doris) Zimmerman of Denver; Elmer (Lois) Zimmerman of East Earl; Elsie (Earl) Martin of Gap; Grace (Clyde) Wenger of Ephrata; Lamar (Nancy) Zimmerman of Loysville; Jeremiah (Mary Ann) Zimmerman of Narvon; and Sharon (Mervin) Rutt of Newmanstown; 40 grandchildren; 117 great-grandchildren; a great-great- grandson; six brothers and sisters: Alta S. (John D.) Weaver of East Earl; Anna Mary S. Hoover of Morgantown; Titus S. (Mary E.) Zimmerman of Narvon; Leroy S. (Verna) Zimmerman of Mifflinburg; Noah S. (Ella) Stauffer of Martinsburg; and Esther S. (Alvin) Horst of Shelby, Ohio; a sister-in-law: Mary Ella Zimmerman of Richland; and a brother-in-law: Raymond Burkholder of Edina, Mo.

Preceding him in death is a stillborn grandson: Andrew Rutt; a stillborn great-grandson: Patrick Fox; a brother: David S. Zimmerman; and a sister: Mabel S. Burkholder.

Funeral services were held Oct. 28 at Weaverland Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference, with the Bishop Amos G. Martin officiating. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery. Kindly omit flowers.

Marvin M. Halligan, 71, E & G Concrete worker, lifelong fan of 18-wheelers, had heart to serve

Marvin M. Halligan, 71, of Denver, went home to be with the Lord on Oct. 23, 2019, after a battle with cancer at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy.

He was the son of the late Paul and Ethel (Martin) Halligan of Farmersville.

He was preceded in death by a brother: Warren Halligan; and grandson: Mattison Halligan.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years: Donna (Gehman) Halligan; a son: Matthew, husband of Tara (Graham) Halligan; two daughters: Noel, wife of Douglas Fagan; and Amy, wife of Curtis Good; two grandsons: Matthew Good and Sean Fagan; one granddaughter: Makenzi Halligan; a brother: Ray Halligan; and seven sisters: Elma Diem, Marie Hertzog, Lorraine Kofroth, Marilyn Mull, Rhoda Martin, Elaine Hibshman, and Rheta Sensenig.

From a young age, Marvin had a passion for 18-wheelers. He worked as a long distance truck driver, truck mechanic, and most recently was employed by E & G Concrete of Stevens where he operated a concrete boom pump truck for 20 years. Our deepest thanks to everyone at E & G Concrete for honoring and supporting Marvin through his illness.

Marvin was a man of many talents and enjoyed many hobbies through the years including gardening, canning, baking, hunting, fishing, hiking, and even restoring a 1949 Ford pick-up, completing all the work himself. He was a member of LCBC in Ephrata where he has served on the communion team and as a greeter.

Until we see Marvin again in the presence of Jesus Christ, he will be remembered most for his heart to serve. He put others before himself, always willing to drop what he was doing to lend a hand. He was a faithful, loving, and devoted husband, father and grandfather, and will be deeply missed.

Our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Peter Degreen III, and everyone at the Lancaster Cancer Center and Hospice and Community Care.

Services were held Oct. 26 at the LCBC-Ephrata Campus, with Pastor Bill Melone officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Donald Eugene Sweigart, 67, formerly of Ephrata

Donald Eugene Sweigart, son of Vernon and Ruth Keiper Sweigart, passed away Oct. 13, 2019, at the age of 67 years. He was a former resident of Ephrata.

Donald is survived by his wife: Sandra (Johnson) Sweigart; son: Dale Sweigart; daughter: Dawn Wagner, wife of Charles; two stepsons: Daniel C. Scott and Tad Scott; three brothers: Kenneth Sweigart and his wife Dona, Anthony Ambra and his wife Elaine, and Michael; three sisters: Karen Sweigart Keppley and her husband James, Angie Koenig, and Gina Sweigart; other relatives and many friends.

There is no service planned at this time. His body is to be cremated under direction of Shadel’s Colonial Chapel in Lebanon, Miss.

Jim D. Brooks, 84, Stevens, native of Texas, Gerz Stein Company division president

Jim D. Brooks, 84, of Stevens, passed away at Maple Farm Nursing Center in Akron on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019.

He was the loving husband of Joan E. (Fricker) Brooks, and son of the late Gaines C. Brooks and Flora M. (Jackson) Davis.

Jim was born in Seminole, Texas, and graduated from Texas A&M University. He was employed as the president of the North American division of the Gerz Stein Company.

In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by two sons: Mike Brooks, husband of Leslie; and Mark Brooks, husband of Regina; three grandchildren: Matthew, Marissa, and Kaitlyn; two sisters: Annette and Jeannette; one brother: John; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim is also survived by two stepchildren: Bill Simmon and Donna Greiner; and three step-grandchildren: Billy, Sabrina, and Jolinda.

Jim was preceded in death by a brother: Harvey.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Janet M. Carroll, 85, owned Wee Folk Doll Shop, Mt. Zion UMC member, avid gardener

Janet M. Carroll, 85, of Ephrata, formerly Warminster, passed away at home on Friday, Oct. 18, 2019.

Born in Doylestown, she was the daughter of the late Warren and Elizabeth (Johnson) Elville. She was preceded in death by her brother: Richard. Janet; was the beautiful, loving wife of Millard T. Carroll.

Janet was a member of the Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Narvon. She greatly enjoyed her church and her church family. An avid gardener, Janet also enjoyed sewing, baking, collecting antiques, and her two cats. The owner of the Wee Folk Doll Shop in Doylestown, Janet not only sold new dolls but repaired and restored the old and treasured.

Janet was the amazing mother of Gene B., married to Nina A (McKenzie), Fountainville; James D., Ephrata; Julie A. Alexander, Ephrata; Jennifer L., married to Jack Bellantoni, Hatboro; Jill L. Floyd, Catasaqua; and Jacki-Lynn, married to Eric Kirchner, Woodbridge, Va. Janet was also the much-loved grandmother of: Jason A. and Christina B. Carroll; Jessi Clay, Se-ara Dawn, married to Tommy Marinelli; and Mesa-Rey Alexander; Michael G., Rahmie G. and Zahey G. Munther; Eric Garnick, Erin Collins; Taylor Floyd; Morgan Elizabeth and Zoya Noelle Kirchner; and great-grandmother of: Savannah Alexander, Benjamin Garnick and Owen Carroll.

Friends and Relatives are respectfully invited to attend a celebration of Janet’s life on Nov. 29 at 11 a.m., at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 753 Mt. Zion Road, Narvon.
