Galen W. Crouse, 88, award-winning dairy farmer, Len Lyn Farms breeder, played ice hockey

Galen W. Crouse, 88, passed away at Moravian Manor, Lititz, on Thursday, Nov. 8, after an extended illness.

He was born on July 16, 1930 in Schoeneck on the Schlosser/Crouse farmstead. Galen was the fifth child born to the late Iram and Mary Schlosser Crouse. He and his wife, Carolyn Forney, shared 64 years of marriage.

Galen lived on the family farm for 80 years, and moved to Ephrata after retiring in 2010. He was so pleased that the fifth and sixth generations are now residing on the farm.

Galen was a dairy farmer, operating under the name of Len Lyn Farms. He was a pioneer in the use of embryo transfer breeding. His cattle were sold to Holstein Breeders in the United States and foreign countries. The family welcomed many tours to the farm; one of the most memorable being the Russian Minister of Agriculture. Galen won many achievement awards for hay and dairy cattle. He was a member of local, state, and national dairy organizations and was honored as a Master Farmer in 1980. He was a past director of the Lancaster Farm Credit Association, now MidAtlantic Farm Credit. Upon retiring from dairy farming in 1991, he went on to operate Len Lyn Farms Shavings and Mulch. His sons, Phil and Neal, joined him in the business in 1997.

Galen was an ice hockey enthusiast, having played in his early years with the Flying Dutchmen. He enjoyed watching his sons and grandsons play hockey, and was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Flyers. He attended Westminster Presbyterian Church, and is a member of the Ephrata Church of the Brethren.

In addition to his parents, Galen is preceded in death by three brothers: Webster, Mervin, and Arthur; grandson: Joel Crouse; and great-grandson: Maverick Messner.

In addition to his wife: Carolyn; he is survived by a sister: Ethel Horst of Ephrata; and brother: Alton Crouse of Ocala, Fla.; three children: Pamela L. Ulrich and her husband Dr. Vernon Ulrich, of Grove City; Philip G. Crouse and his wife Gail Bensing Crouse of Stevens; and Neal J. Crouse and his wife Nancy Nolt Crouse of Ephrata; six grandchildren: Matthew (Kate) Ulrich of Pittsburgh; Elizabeth (Harrison) Ealey of Columbus, Ohio; Lane (Katie) Crouse of Smyrna Ga.; Adriane Crouse of Sacramento, Calif.; Eric (Amber) Crouse of Stevens; and Kelsi (Jordan) Messner of Newmanstown; and eight great-grandchildren: Liam and Silas Ulrich; Millie Crouse; Ian, Aaron, and Owen Crouse; and Garrett and Halston Messner.

The family would like to thank the medical staff from Moravian Manor and Masonic Village Hospice for their skilled and compassionate care.

Services were held Nov. 13 at Indiantown Mennonite Church, Ephrata, with Dr. John Light officiating. Interment took place in the Steinmetz Cemetery.

Fern A. Frantz, 89, Swamp Lutheran member, enjoyed cooking, devoted to family and friends

Fern A. Frantz, 89, of Richland, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018, at WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon.

She was born in Fritztown to the late Vernon and Bertha (Fisher) Kauffman. She was married 55 years to Evan R. Frantz, who passed away in 2005.

Fern is survived by three children: Evan L., husband of Sharon R. Frantz of Newmanstown; Dianne M. Frantz of Richland; and David L., husband of Andrea L. Frantz of Lebanon; three grandchildren: Jennifer, wife of Earl Thomas Jr.; Derek, husband of Jessica Frantz; and Melanie, wife of Bruce Warnick Jr.; six great-grandchildren: Alexis, Cole, Dawson, Mason, Keegan, and Ariana; a brother: Richard, husband of Betty Kauffman of Denver.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister: June Kramer.

Fern was a life-long member of Swamp Evangelical Lutheran Church, Reinholds. She attended Pleasant Retreat one-room school house. She was a devoted housewife and a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking for her family, Sunday night visits, and the family get-togethers. She loved watching her grandkids play sports. She also enjoyed birds, puzzles, and meeting her friends at the mall.

Services were held Nov. 12 at Swamp Evangelical Lutheran Church, Reinholds, with Pastor Dennis L. Trout officiating. Interment was in the Swamp Cemetery.

Mary Ann Schlott, 86, secretary, homemaker, Akron COB member, mother of three

Mary Ann Schlott, 86, of Lititz, formerly of East Earl, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018, at Lancaster General Hospital.

She was born in Ephrata to the late Harry and Anna (Ruhl) Dohner, and was the wife of the late William Schlott who passed away in 2010.

She was a member of Akron Church of the Brethren. Mary Ann was a secretary for various local businesses and a homemaker.

Mary Ann is survived three children: Kim M., wife of Gary Cooper; Cozette L., wife of Rick Stover; Greg Schlott; six grandchildren: Michelle Stark, Sarah Auker, Amanda Cooper, Keri Nass, Kyle Stover, Melissa Cooper; nine great-grandchildren: Kory, Mason, Kole, Greyson, Lucas, Grant, Nolan, Kayla and Tristan; and her mother-in-law: Irma Schlott.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter: Cathy Cooper; and a foster brother: Bob Nissley.

The family would like to thank the IICU staff at Lancaster General Hospital, especially Danielle and Laura; the 6 Lime ICU 4 staff, especially Jackie and Kate; and the surgical staff.

Services were held Nov. 12 at Akron Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Dennis Garrison officiating. Interment was private at the convenience of the family.

Betty H. Gehman, 90, Denver H.S. grad, Cub Scout den mother, avid community volunteer

Betty H. Gehman, 90, of Adamstown, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018 at Ephrata Manor.

Born in Denver, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Lillie (Weidman) Hertzog, and widow of Floyd H. Gehman who passed in 1992.

Betty graduated from Denver High School, Class of 1946. She was committed to her family and her community. She was a den mother for Cub Scouts and an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she taught summer Bible school and evening bible studies. Betty volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was dedicated to supporting local charities; she would walk door-to-door collecting donations. She loved her two feline companions, Amos and Church.

She is survived by two sons: Dean A. Gehman, husband of Dreama (Taylor) of Goode, Va.; and Daryl L. Gehman of South Hadley, Mass.; a grandson: David A. Gehman, husband of Jessica (Kauffman); and a sister: Phyllis Dellinger.

Services were held Nov. 17 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Adamstown, officiated by Rev. Sandra Gideon. Interment followed in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Adamstown.

Ella May Shaffer, 81, Grace Family Church member, loved caring for great-granddaughter

Ella May Shaffer, 81, of New Holland, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018, at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital.

She was born in Keezletown, Va., to the late Herman M. and Mary E. (Dorman) Emerson, and was the wife of the late Richard A. Shaffer who passed away in 2010.

She was a member of Grace Family Church, New Holland. Ella was a homemaker. She loved life, especially taking care of her great-granddaughter. She also enjoyed watching the Carolina Panthers.

Ella is survived her daughter: Shelby A., wife of Barry Sensenig of New Holland; her son: Thomas, husband of Brenda Shaffer of Timberville, Va.; her adopted daughter, Kerry Neider of Arizona; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Edith Derrer and Judy Smith.

A memorial will be held at a later date. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

James C. Guthrie Jr., 40, Ross Technology worker, football coach, avid Pittsburgh sports fan

James C. Guthrie Jr., 40, of Akron, passed away on Monday, Nov. 12, 2018, at home.

He was born in Uniontown to James C. and Mary Kay (Smith) Guthrie.

James was a machine operator for Ross Technology. Always reliable and trustworthy, he was a wonderful brother and uncle. He enjoyed coaching his nephew’s football team and was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, especially the Steelers, Pens and Pirates. He loved working on cars with his dad and friends.

In addition to his parents, James is survived by his sister: Lori A. Ritz, and her children, Damien A. Ricks, Isabella Diaz, and Mercedes “Chloe” Ritz; his paternal grandmother: Charlotte Guthrie; and his beloved dog: Oreo.

Services were held Nov. 16 at Stradling Funeral Home, Akron, with Rev. Fr. John J. McLoughlin C.SS.R. as celebrant. Final farewell and commendation will be private at the convenience of the family.

Ray D. Freeman, 88, of Ephrata, passed away on Monday, Nov. 12, 2018, at The Gardens at Stevens.

He was born in Oley to the late Harvey and Amy (Potts) Freeman.

Ray was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Bowmansville, the Howell Lodge, Rajah Shrine, and Cushion Peak Rod and Gun Club in Reinholds. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed swimming at the Ephrata Rec Center, playing pinochle with friends, and enjoying a good cup of hot coffee.

Ray retired from the Dana Corp in Reading.

He is survived by two nephews: Terry and Fred Lesher; a niece: Judy Lesher; five great-nieces and nephews: Tara Lesher, Amber Lesher, Wendy Austin, Scott Lesher, Jamie Lesher; and several great-great-nieces and nephews.

Ray is the last of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by a sister: Katherine Freeman; and three brothers: Earl, Paul, and Chester Freeman.

Services were held Nov. 17, at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, Denver, with Pastor Timothy L. Craven officiating. Interment took place in the Bowmansville Union Cemetery.

Laura M. Fox, Transport For Christ chaplain, Fox Notary co-owner, strong faith, selfless

Laura M. Fox passed away on Nov. 13, 2018 at her home near Bowmansville, from cancer.

She lived a lifetime of love and giving of her time and attention to her husband, children and grandchildren. She served with her husband for 18 years in chaplaincy at Transport For Christ. Many truck drivers enjoyed their time with Laura for comfort and encouragement. She also served as a co-owner of Fox Notary Service in Bowmansville since 1982. Her specialty in life was to give to others ahead of herself. She became a Christian believer as an adolescent and continued in her faith all her life. She currently attended New Joy Church, Ephrata, and attended Harvest Fellowship, Stevens, for over 50 years.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years: Leon Fox; her three daughters: Julie Fox, Kelly Noll (wife of Corey Noll), Lynelle Caber (wife of Bernard Caber); and three grandsons.

A celebration of life was held at New Joy Church, Ephrata, on Nov. 19. Burial was private.

The family would like to thank all their friends, New Joy Church, Hospice and Community Care, and the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute who gave the family so much support during her illness.

John L. Reider Jr., 72, foundry worker, avid small game hunter, enjoyed walking in Reamstown

John “Johnny” L. Reider Jr., 72 of Reamstown, passed away at home Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018.

Johnny was a son of the late John L. Sr. and Mary (Bickhart) Reider.

Johnny worked at the former Warwick Foundry and the Boose Aluminum Foundry until he retired in 2008. He was an avid small game hunter and enjoyed fishing. He was a member of the Reamstown Athletic Association. Johnny was often seen walking through town; he loved to walk and would greet you with a smile as he passed by. He was kindhearted and always willing to help.

Johnny is survived by a son: John L. Reider III; granddaughter: Muriah; two brothers: Harvey and Richard Reider; four sisters: Grace Shepler, Elva Horning, Bessie Pugh, and Evelyn Stover; many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law: Mary Reider; and dear friends: Rick Sweigart, Penny Lintner, Colleen Conant and Donald Dean.

He was predeceased by his brother: George Reider; sisters: Irene Benn, Sally Mae and Mary Joyce Reider; sister-in-law: Mary Pauline Reider; brothers-in-law: Elmer Shepler, Harry Horning, and Nelson Benn.

Services were held Nov. 17 at Carpenters Community Church, Talmage.

Verna Ruth Detwiler, 88, Science Press proofreader, played several instruments, enjoyed baking

Verna Ruth (McCahan) Detwiler, 88, a resident at Windy Hill Village, Philipsburg, formerly of Glasgow and Ephrata, was called home to Heaven Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, after a prolonged battle with Alzheimer’s.

She was born in Antis Township daughter of the late Walter Roy and Essie Mae (Jackson) Benn. In 1952 she married Grant L. McCahan, and he preceded her in death in May 2000. She then married Earl O. Detwiler in 2001.

Surviving are her husband: Earl; four children: Jean Cody, Dennis (Dana) McCahan, Darlene Gamber, and David (Tammie) McCahan; eight grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a brother: George Benn; and a sister: Pearl Campbell.

Verna was a 1948 graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School where she was class valedictorian. She retired as a proofreader and page checker at Science Press, Ephrata.

Verna was a member of Nazarene Church, Philipsburg. She loved to sing, and enjoyed playing the saxophone, piano and violin. She always had great sweets baked and ready for the grandchildren to enjoy.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, the Rev. Timothy Goss officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contribution in Verna’s memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, alz.org.

Lloyd H. Zimmerman, 80, of New Holland, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2018, at his home.

He was born in Ephrata to the late Edwin and Lydia (Hurst) Zimmerman, and was the husband of Vera M. (Nolt) Zimmerman.

Lloyd was a member of New Holland Mennonite Church, Groffdale Conference. He had worked as a horse trainer and farmer.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by seven children: Norma N., wife of Alvin O. Zimmerman of Greenwich, Ohio; Leon Z., husband of Anna (Martin) Zimmerman of Leola; Ivan Z., husband of Lucy (Martin) Zimmerman of Ephrata; Verna Z., wife of Eugene Zimmerman of Ephrata; J. Lloyd, husband of Ella (Martin) Zimmerman of Leola; Glen Z., husband of Emma (Martin) Zimmerman of New Holland; Lucy Z., wife of Joe Oberholtzer of New Holland; 54 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; a brother: Edwin, wife of Esther Zimmerman of New Holland; two sisters: Lena Mae, wife of Irwin Nolt of East Earl; Ruth Ann Zimmerman of Latham, Miss.; and a sister-in-law, Miriam Zimmerman of Versailles, Miss.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson; one great-grandson; a sister: Mary, wife of the late Mervin Brubacker; and a brother: Phares Zimmerman.

Services were held Nov. 26 at New Holland Old Order Mennonite Church, with Bishop Titus Martin officiating. Interment took place in the adjoining church cemetery. Kindly omit flowers.

Loretta N. Kruppenbach, 81, Lost & Found musician, talented seamstress, enjoyed baking, traveling

Loretta N. Kruppenbach, 81, of Denver, passed away Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018 at Hospice & Community Care in Mount Joy.

Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Warren F. and Margaret E. (Boyer) Steely, and the loving wife of 22 years of Lloyd A. Kruppenbach.

Loretta played keyboard and sang back-up in a small music group called Lost & Found with her husband. She enjoyed traveling; the Swiss Alps, Italy, and other European excursions meant a lot to her. She was a member of St. Paul’s E.C. Church in Reamstown.

Loretta’s sincere, quiet and gentle nature attracted others and she quickly made friends from strangers. She was a talented seamstress and for many years loved to sew clothes for her granddaughter. There was something special about her pumpkin pies and cookies, her love was the secret ingredient.

In addition to her husband, Loretta is survived by two daughters: Cheri A. Borelli, wife of Charles of Reading; and Brenda J. High, wife of Marvin of Laureldale; a granddaughter: Stephanie L. Borelli, fiancée of Jerrold A. Reber, Reading; and a brother: Lee W. Steely, husband of Patricia of Montana.

She was predeceased by brother: Carroll N. Steely.

Services were held Nov. 24 at Good Sipler Funeral & Cremation Centre, Reamstown. Pastor Matt Hill officiated.

Eleanor M. Lynam, 88, LGH nursing instructor, Cocalico school nurse, tap dancer, avid volunteer

Eleanor M. Lynam, 88, of Denver, beloved mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, friend, and a registered nurse, entered eternal rest and peace on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018, at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy.

Her late husband Earl V. Lynam preceded her in death in 1997.

Eleanor, affectionately known as “Fuzzy,” and born in Johnstown,was the cherished daughter of Lloyd A. and Lillian V. Mansfield.

A survivor of the Johnstown flood of 1936, she graduated from Ferndale Area High School. After graduating from Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, U.S. Steel employed her as an industrial nurse.

She is survived by four children: Mark, husband of Mary Sheetz Lynam, Mount Joy; Lauren, wife of Dr. Thomas Winkler, Bethesda, Md.; Susan Lynam, of Denver; and Paul, husband of Amanda (Mandy) Moore Lynam of Lancaster. Was was the loving grandmother: of Andrew; Ian (husband of Grace Obando); and Mary Lynam; Elizabeth, Caroline, Luke, and Julia Winkler; Matthew (husband of Elise Bowder) Pini; and Nicholas and Benjamin Lynam. Her sister-in-law: Janet (Ullery) Lynam of Davidsville, also survives her.

Family and friends will remember Eleanor for her kindness, generosity, selflessness, and quick wit. She enjoyed family vacations and holiday gatherings. She was her grandchildren’s biggest fan attending their scholastic, theatrical, and sporting events.

Eleanor and Earl moved to Denver in 1968. In 1973, Eleanor earned a bachelor of science in education from Millersville State College. She became an instructor of nursing students at Lancaster General Hospital and later spent 22 years as a school nurse in the Cocalico School District.

Eleanor loved tap dancing and watching classic movies. As a young girl, she took tap dance lessons from Gene Kelly. Retirement did not slow Eleanor down. Having a love of travel, she visited many fascinating places including Alaska, Peru (Machu Picchu), Australia, Fiji, and New Zealand. She enjoyed playing cards with her neighbors, reading mystery novels, and watching Jeopardy. In her spare time, Eleanor volunteered for the Ephrata Public Library, Meals on Wheels, Peter’s Porch, the Ephrata Cancer Center, and as a volunteer chaplain at Ephrata Community Hospital. Eleanor was a member of Faith United Evangelical Lutheran Church, Denver.

Eleanor’s memorial service will be held on Sunday, Dec. 2, at Faith United Evangelical Lutheran Church, 357 Walnut St., Denver, at 1 p.m. There will be no viewing. Eleanor’s family will greet guests following the service. Interment will be private.

The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Luther Acres and Hospice and Community Care for the special care they gave her in her time of need.

Emily G. McKinney, 102, formerly of Reading, Stony Creek Mills, and Adamstown, passed away on Friday, Nov. 23, 2018, in her home in Raleigh, N.C.

She was the wife of Charles R. McKinney for 37 years, who passed away in 1985. Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Gertrude E. (Bortle) Knouse.

She graduated from Mt. Penn High School in 1934 and attended the Reading Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1937. Emily further studied and interned at universities and hospitals in New York City, Philadelphia, and Boston and then worked as a clinical nursing instructor at the Reading Hospital from 1942-1948.

She and her husband, Charles, also owned and operated the Adamstown Beer Distributing Company from 1949 until 1975. Emily enjoyed playing the organ, performing with the church hand bell choir, charitable work, knitting, crocheting, letter correspondence, and traveling abroad. She was a member of Calvary Reformed U.C.C. and a life member of the Reading Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association.

Emily is survived by one son: Scott A. McKinney, husband of Sandra A. of Raleigh, N.C.; four grandchildren: Shawn D. McKinney, husband of Gwen of Ephrata; Stephanie L. McKinney of Denver; Brian L. McKinney, husband of Erin M. of Wilmington, N.C.; and Shannon L. Puschaver, wife of Samuel of Wilmington, N.C.; and five great-grandchildren: Chase L. Brumbach currently serving in the U.S. Marine Corp; Brecken S., Scarlet A. and Camille R. Puschaver; and Abigail S. McKinney.

She is predeceased by two sons: Steven D., Larry M.; and siblings: Alice E. and Edward R. Knouse.

Visitation with family and friends will be held on Friday, Nov. 30, from 1 to 1:30 p.m. with services beginning at 1:30 p.m., at Lutz Funeral Home, 2100 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading. Interment will be at Spies-Zion Cemetery, Alsace Township.

Emma R. (Good) Martin, 100, of Ephrata, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, at Lincoln Christian Home.

She was born in Hinkletown to the late John Jacob and Mabel (Rutt) Good, and was the wife of the late Jacob B. Martin who passed away in 1978.

Emma was a member of Texter Mountain Mennonite Church, an Eastern Pennsylvania Mennonite congregation.

She is survived by four sons: Edwin (Arlene) Martin of Leola, Clarence (Arlene) Martin of Ephrata, Mahlon (Lois) Martin of Denver, Irvin (Eleanor) Martin of Guatemala; six daughters: Minerva Martin of Reamstown, Miriam (Donald) Burkholder of Womelsdorf, Esther Martin of Ephrata, Mabel (Lewis) Martin of Lebanon, Evelyn Sensenig of Denver, Viola (James) Herr of Robesonia; 30 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 97 great-grandchildren; 27 step-great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren; a brother: Clarence (Lois) Good of Casterland, N.Y.; two sisters: Anna Mae (Alvin) Wise of East Earl, and Kathryn Summers of Goodville; and a brother-in-law: Lloyd Martin of Denver.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son; a daughter; four brothers; and three sisters.

Services were held Nov. 27 at Valley View Mennonite Church, Stevens. Interment took place in the Springville Mennonite Church Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers.

Clair S. Stoner, 82, farmer in Gouglersville, Sears technician, enjoyed hunting, electronics

Clair S. Stoner, 82, of Reading passed away Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018.

Born and raised in Brecknock Township, Berks County, he was a son of the late Jennie (Sweigart) Stoner, and the widower of Gloria J. (Eckenroth) Stoner.

Clair was a graduate of Governor Mifflin High School, Class of 1954. All his life he farmed the family farm in Gouglersville. He was an avid hunter, liked to go fishing and enjoyed tinkering with electronics. He worked as a service technician for over 30 years at Sears. Clair was the family caregiver, willing to care for other’s need before his own.

He is survived by daughter: Susan L Fresh, wife of Barry of Columbia, Tenn.; three granddaughters: Suzanne Greene, wife of Michael; Brandi Woller, wife of Toby; and Tami Tocci, wife of Nick; six great-grandchildren; and a sister: Marian Weinhold, wife of C.J. Jr.

Services were held Nov. 27 at Good Sipler Funeral & Cremation Centre, Reamstown, officiated by Reverend Debora Gifford. Interment followed at Wyomissing Cemetery, Gouglersville.

Amos G. Kulp, 81, of Manheim, passed away peacefully, at his daughter’s home, on Nov. 25, surrounded by loving family. Amos retired from Alumax after 30 years and was a long time house painter. His daughter, Tracee (Stephen) Montpetit, lives in Akron.

John Edwin Zerphy, 87, of Middletown, passed away Nov. 22 at Frey Village. John owned the former YZ Printing and was a foreman for the former Elizabethtown Chronicle. An avid outdoorsman, John enjoyed camping, kayaking, and working with horses, but he especially loved hiking with his llamas, earning him the nickname “Llama John.” A daughter, Diane Collins, lives in Denver.

William C. Knight Sr., 64, self-employed builder, enjoyed woodcarving, outdoorsman

William “Bill” C. Knight Sr., 64, of Ephrata, and formerly of Curwinsville, passed away at home, with his family by his side, on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2018.

Bill was born in Altoona, son of the late Dorothy Helen Turner. He was the loving husband of Hope E. (Grumblatt) Knight. They were to celebrate 43 years of marriage on Jan. 17, 2019.

Bill worked as a self-employed builder. He loved arts, crafts, woodcarving, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Most of all, Bill loved his family and spending time with them. Family always came first.

In addition to his wife, Hope; Bill is survived by three children: Amanda F. Knight of Ephrata; William “Billy” C. Knight Jr., husband of Shelby (Kleinfelter) Knight, of West Sunbury; and Stephanie H. Knight-Flory of West Sunbury; and three grandchildren: Kiersyn, Liana, and Carter Knight.

Private graveside funeral services will be held at Memory Gardens in East Cocalico Township.

Thomas M. Donnelly, 67, of Ephrata, and formerly of Levittown, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018 at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital.

Tom is survived by his wife: Marie T. Donnelly; four children: Brian Donnelly (Kathryn), Megan Blasi (Stephen), Julia Donnelly, and Kevin Donnelly (Gwen); three grandchildren: Emerson, Cassian, and Maggie; five siblings: Francis Donnelly (Debbie), Kathleen McGady (Dennis), Eileen Touvelle (Gary), John Donnelly (Amanda), and Rosemary Guirate (Thomas); and several nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents: Francis and Rose (McKee) Donnelly.

Tom worked for Avco Supply of Levittown, PA before retiring in 2017. He had been active in Scouting and served as Cubmaster of Cub Scout Pack 123 at Immaculate Conception Church of Levittown. Tom was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan and loved listening to music, reading, gardening, and spending time with family.

Friends will be received at Paul L. Gravenor Home For Funerals, 100 W. Main St., Ephrata, on Saturday, Dec. 8, from 10 to 11 a.m. Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m. At Tom’s request, wear a Christmas sweater or Phillies/Eagles gear. No black, please.

Erdine L. Hehnly, 82, of Ephrata, passed away to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, at home.

She was born in Ephrata to the late William and Lottie (Bender) Adams.

She was a member of Hope United Methodist Church, where she sang with the choir for many years. Erdine worked for Woolworth. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. She loved people and will be dearly missed by friends and family.

Erdine is survived by two sons: Michael L. Foltz of Ephrata; Dennis S., wife of Marie A. Foltz of Lancaster; a grandson: Ryan T. Foltz; a brother: William, husband of Somai Adams of Norfolk, Va.; and a sister: Donna, wife of Richard Imhoff of Lititz.

Services were held Nov. 23 at Hope United Methodist Church, Ephrata, with Rev. Kevin Readman officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
