Ivan W. Weitzel, 91, WWII vet, Kurtz Precast carpenter, great pitcher and avid baseball fan

Ivan W. Weitzel, 91, formerly of Denver, died July 12, 2017, in Conestoga View, Lancaster.

Born in Brecknock Township, a son of the late Howard K. Weitzel and Florence (Fritz) Weitzel Lesher, he was married for 69 years to the late Helen (King) Weitzel, who died Sept. 30, 2013.

A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a carpenter with Kurtz Precast (later High Concrete), Denver. Ivan was a member of Swamp Christian Fellowship Church, Reinholds; life member of Reinholds VFW and the fire company. A great pitcher in his day, he was an avid baseball fan and played in the Ephrata Legion and Reinholds softball leagues. He also enjoyed hunting.

Surviving is his son: Robert L., married to Sharon J. (Steffy) Weitzel, Robesonia; and brothers: Frederick S. Lesher; and Kenneth J., married to Nancy (Zell) Lesher, all of Denver.

He was also predeceased by his stepfather: Roy R. Lesher; grandson: Jesse L. Weitzel; and brother: Donald Lesher.

Inurnment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Adamstown.

Raymond T. Good, 83, farmer, construction worker, gospel quartet singer, softball player, coach

Raymond T. Good, 83, of Ephrata, went home to be with Jesus on July 12, 2017 at Zerbe Retirement Community in Narvon.

Born in Hinkletown, he was a son of the late Harvey and Alice (Taylor) Good. He would have been married 60 years on Aug. 10 to Nancy (Stoltzfus) Good.

Raymond was a member of the Hinkletown Mennonite Church and the Stoney Brook Hunting Camp. He worked as a farmer for 20 years and later worked in construction at Weber Brothers, Mervin Miller, Stoltzfus Enterprise, Horst Construction, and The Mennonite Home. He took two years off from work to build the addition for Hinkletown Mennonite Church.

Raymond enjoyed singing in different male choruses and quartets. He began singing tenor in The Word of Truth Quartet as a teenager and continued for over 20 years, singing for church programs and weddings. He also played fast pitch softball for many years and later was a coach.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three children: Lois, married to J. Martin Hoover, of Mohnton; Elaine, married to Cory Sensenig, of Denver; and Donald, married to Lyndell (Martin) Good, of Ephrata; nine grandchildren; Jenny, married to Scott Martin; Renee, married to Kenny Grube; Holly, married to Brian Oberholtzer; Josh, married to Gwen (Weaver) Hoover; Kayloni, married to Bret Kurtz; Kelsi Good; Carson, married to Jen (Martin) Good; Natalie Sensenig; and Laura Sensenig; eight great-grandchildren: Trenton, Travis, and Angela Martin; Leah, Jake, Dalton, and Gracie Grube; and Josephine Oberholtzer; a brother: Lester T., married to Katherine (Eckenrode) Good, of Ephrata; and a sister-in-law: Vera (Fox) Good of Manheim.

Preceding him in death is a sister: Edna Good; and a brother: Paul T. Good.

Services were held July 18 at Hinkletown Mennonite Church, Ephrata, with the Revs. Glenn Sauder, Jerold Martin, and Gerald Fox officiating. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery.

Dorothy M. Craven, 83, worked for Gibson Greeting Cards, volunteer crocheter, traveler

Dorothy M. Craven, 83, of Ephrata, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 16, 2017.

She was the wife of Gary L. Craven, with whom she celebrated 58 years of marriage on Jan. 1, 2017.

Dorothy was the daughter of Edward and Marie Blackwell of Neptune, N.J. She was born in Hugo, Okla., and moved to Bradley Beach, N.J., in 1941 where she attended Asbury Park High School.

She was a member of Mohler Church of the Brethren. Dorothy worked for Gibson Greeting Cards before retiring in 1996. She enjoyed traveling, photography, and crocheting prayer shawls for Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital and blankets for the Lancaster Humane Society.

In addition to her husband, Dorothy is survived by her daughter: Nancy of Ephrata; her son: Wayne, husband of Terri, of Thornhurst; a granddaughter: Marie; and two great-grandchildren: Naomi and Nathan, all of Lakewood, N.J.; a step-grandson: Thomas Kosich of Toms River, N.J.; a sister: JoAnn, wife of Richard Bridge, of Delaware; and many nieces and nephews,

A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 20, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Mohler Church of the Brethren, 21 E. Mohler Church Road, Ephrata, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m., with Pastor Carl L Brubaker officiating. Interment will take place in the Mohler Church of the Brethren Cemetery.

Alexander Masluk, 87, Navy vet, Philadelphia policeman, OMPH member, liked cowboy movies

Alexander Masluk, 87, of Akron, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday, July 14, 2017.

Born in Coatesville, Chester County, he was the son of the late Elious and Pauline (Wokoransky) Masluk, and devoted husband of the late Helen (Onuskonich) Masluk, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.

Alexander was a Naval veteran who served with distinction for 25 years as a Philadelphia Police officer. He was a member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Parish, where he was a loyal supporter of the Benevolent Society and a Third Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 4191. Alexander enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards, and watching cowboy movies. He was happiest working on projects, especially birdhouses, in his woodshop.

He is survived by three sons: the Rev. Alexander Masluk of Philadelphia; John R., husband of Christine (Campbell) Masluk, of Philadelphia; Michael, husband of Patricia (Lohr) Masluk, of Philadelphia; two daughters: Hope, wife of Michael Schmids, of Reinholds; and Dawn, wife of Daniel McCormac, of Akron; nine grandchildren: John (Lauren) Masluk, Sarah (Jay) Herrmann, Patrick Masluk, Nathan Schmids, Olivia Schmids, Matthew (Brittany) McCormac, Erin McCormac, Allie McCormac and William McCormac. He was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Wesley, Alexi, Mila, Joshua and Elowen.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by a brother: Michael Masluk.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 19, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Stradling Funeral Home, 30 N. Ninth St., Akron. An additional visitation will be held on Thursday, July 20, from 9 to 10 a.m., at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Our Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 320 Church Ave., Ephrata, with the Rev. Alexander Masluk as Celebrant. Final Commendation and Farewell will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Emory L. Gress, 87, Korea vet, Kalas shipping clerk, enjoyed woodworking, gardening

Emory L. Gress, 87, of Reinholds, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2017, at Ephrata Manor.

He was born in West Cocalico Township to the late Earl F. and Elsie C. (Lied) Gress, and was the husband of Patricia F. (Wenrich) Gress, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage.

He was a member of Swamp Evangelical Lutheran Church, and Reinholds Fire Company, and a lifetime member of the Reinholds VFW. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking. Emory was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War.

Emory worked as a deliveryman for Cloister Dairies prior to retiring from his job as a shipping clerk for Kalas.

In addition to his wife, Emory is survived by two sons: Kory L. Gress of Reinholds; and Kyle L. Gress, husband of Kimberly, of Exton; five grandchildren: Madison, Josiah, Mariah, Alex, and Max; two great-grandchildren: Oliver and Anna; a brother: Edgar L. Gress, husband of Beatrice of Reinholds; and a sister: Edith L. Gress of Newmanstown.

He was preceded in death by a son: Kirk L. Gress.

A viewing will be held on Friday, July 21, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., at the Swamp Evangelical Lutheran Church, 275 Swamp Church Road, Reinholds. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m., with Pastor Bonnie Oplinger officiating. Interment will take place in the Swamp Cemetery.

William C. Monyer, 79, Quinlan Pretzels worker, long time Boy Scout volunteer, Lionel Train collector

William C. Monyer, 79, of Lititz, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2017, at United Zion Retirement Community.

He was born in Reading to the late William H. and Minerva (Reifsnyder) Monyer, and was the husband of Arlene F. (Brubaker) Monyer, with whom he would have shared 53 years of marriage on Aug. 1.

He was a member of Faith United Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denver, where he had been an usher and greeter. He represented his church on the Denver Community Park Committee. He was both an Assistant and Scout Master of Denver Boy Scout Troop No. 32, a paper chairman for Pack 132 Cub Scouts, and the Assistant Webelos Master. He was active with Troop 32 for more than 35 years. He enjoyed collecting Lionel Trains and antique coins.

William worked for Quinlan Pretzels of Denver for 42 years prior to his retirement.

In addition to his wife, William is survived by a daughter: Tammy L., wife of Don Barrett, of Reamstown; a son: Todd L., husband of Ginny Monyer, of Stevens; two grandchildren: Brent Allen Foltz and William Plante; and a brother: Raymond, husband of Gerry Monyer, of Oley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter: Justine Monyer; and two grandchildren: Patricia A. Foltz and Nathan Plante.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 27, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Faith United Evangelical Lutheran Church, 357 Walnut St., Denver. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Joseph A. Veres officiating. Interment will take place in the Fairview Cemetery Annex.

Richard K. Hershey, Army vet, worked at Datcon Instrument Co., enjoyed history, golfing

Richard K. Hershey, of Manheim, passed away July 21, 2017, free from struggles with recent health battles.

He was born June 25, 1930, in Maytown, to the late Christ and Myrtle Kuhn Hershey. He was married to Shirley Gamber Hershey for 62 years.

He was a member of Grace Point Church of the Nazarene, Ephrata. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army, stationed in the Philippine Islands, as an interceptor and high-speed radio operator. Richard was employed in industry by Hamilton Watch and Datcon Instrument Co. as a manufacturing and production supervisor, retiring after 40 years. He enjoyed history, was a creative thinker; and continued to seek knowledge, applying what he learned, in his later years. His hobbies included: hiking, golfing, bowling and working outdoors.

In addition to his wife, he will be lovingly missed by his daughter: Debra, wife of Stephen Schuch; and his son: Dean, husband of JoAnn Beck. Richard is survived by six grandchildren: Chris, Sara, Nicole, Leah, Rachel, and Zach; and great-grandchildren: Noah, Hunter, and Ainsley. A source of pride and joy, he loved spending time with each of them. He is also survived by one brother: John; and sisters: Vivian Walters; Doris Hershey; Dorothy Longenecker, wife of Edward Longenecker; Beverly Geib; and Donna Wagaman.

He was preceded in death by one brother: Lloyd Hershey.

Services were held at Grace Point Church of the Nazarene, Ephrata on July 26. Interment was in Mount Zion Evangelical Cemetery, Akron.

Deaths of Local Interest – July 26, 2017

David S. “Humpy” Esh, 69, of Narvon passed away July 22 at M.S. Hershey Medical Center. He attended Oasis Christian Fellowship. He was the owner and operator of the former D&E Construction and Beanie’s of Lancaster. His daughter, Bethany (Edwin) Strubhar, lives in Ephrata.

Marcia C. Hauck, 65, of Mount Joy, died July 22 at Hershey Medical Center after a battle with cancer. Marcia worked in the customer service department for Weis Markets in Lancaster before retiring earlier this year. Marcia was an avid Penn State football fan, and also enjoyed camping, bingo, painting, and collecting koala bears. Her sister, Patricia, wife of Michael Warner, lives in Reinholds.

Robert “Bob” Hess, 74, of Paradise, passed away at his son’s home July 17. Bob was a truck driver at Hess Mills for 30 years. He enjoyed hunting, exploring the Pocono Mountains, bird watching, painting, and woodworking. His sister, Virginia Crills, is a resident of Ephrata.

Leon W. Spangler, 87, Leola, died July 20. In his early years, Leon worked for the Middletown Air Depot. He then worked for RCA/Burle Industries for 39 years before his retirement in 1992. Leon graduated from Lancaster Bible College Evening Institute in 1974. He enjoyed going on bus trips and flying model airplanes as a member of Cocalico Prop Busters. Leon and his wife were long-time members of Calvary Church in Lancaster, and he served in various capacities at the church including Sunday school teacher, deacon, and audio technician.

William W. Stauffer, 87, Big Dutchman retiree, Stauffer Mennonite Church member

William W. Stauffer, 87, of Ephrata, passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital.

He was born in West Earl Township to the late Jacob S. and Magdalena (Wenger) Stauffer. He was the husband of Mary (Stauffer) Stauffer, the late Elva (Martin) Stauffer, and the late Minnie (Sensenig) Stauffer.

He was a member of Stauffer Mennonite Church. William retired from Big Dutchman, formally Favorite Manufacturing.

In addition to his wife, William is survived by four children: Robert (Grace) Stauffer of New Holland, Marlene (Titus) Brubacker of Ephrata, Clyde (Pricilla) Stauffer of Port Trevorton, Delores (Ray) Brubacker of Ephrata; 26 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; a sister: Magdalena (Donald) Wenrich of Mohnton; two sisters-in-law: Arlene Stauffer of Bainbridge, Ohio; and Mary Stauffer of Ephrata.

In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by two infant children: Charles and Minerva; a granddaughter: Darla Brubacker; four brothers: Paul, Ivan, Jacob, and Mahlon; and seven sisters: MaryAnn, Pricilla, Sarah, Susanna, Martha, Miriam, and Rachel.

Services were held July 26 at Stauffer Mennonite Church, Ephrata. Interment took place in the adjoining church Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers.

H. Dianne Tothero, 78, Cocalico High School cafeteria worker, Peace UCC member, loved collies

H. Dianne Tothero, 78, of Stevens, passed away Monday, July 24, 2017, at Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital.

She was born in Lancaster to the late H. Ellsworth Heistand and Joyce C. (Hurst) Hurst, and was the wife of the late Jacob Leon Tothero, who died in 1985.

She had been a member of Peace United Church of Christ. Dianne worked for W. W. Moyer, and most recently in the cafeteria for the Cocalico High School. She loved caring for her family; horses; cats; and dogs, especially collies.

Dianne is survived by two sons: Brian S. Tothero of Stevens; Terrence L., husband of Tammy (Bucher) Tothero, of Ephrata; a brother: Emil Thomas, husband of Nancy (Jones) Berlet, of East Petersburg; and two grandchildren: Chad and Kaitlyn Tothero.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two stepfathers: Harold A. Hurst and Emil L. Berlet.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 27, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Stradling Funeral Home, 30 N. Ninth St., Akron, followed by funeral services at 7 p.m. Interment will take place in the Muddy Creek Cemetery.

Janice C. Murphy, 57, nurse, worked at the Mennonite Home, Siamese cat breeder, enjoyed fishing

Janice “Jannie” C. Murphy, 57, of Peach Bottom, formerly of Ephrata, passed away Monday, July 17, 2017, after a courageous 15-month battle with cancer.

Born June 9, 1960 in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late George W. Murphy Sr. and the late Paige A. (Dameron) Murphy. She was the companion of Hoover “Ray” Roland Jr. They just celebrated their 12th anniversary on July 8.

A career in nursing, Jannie had last worked at the Mennonite Home, Lancaster.

She was a 1978 graduate of J. P. McCaskey High School. Jannie was of the United Methodist faith. She loved fishing, with the “Luck of the Irish,” playing “the ponies” at Delaware Park. A cat lover, she was a Siamese cat breeder.

Also surviving are her two sons: Ryan Stock, married to Jessica, of Ephrata; and Dane A. Stock of Ephrata; three grandchildren; and three brothers: George W. (Maryann) Murphy Jr., Gerald W. (Linda) Murphy; and Timothy (Hillary) Murphy; and her canine companion: Teddy.

In keeping with Jannie’s wishes, a private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Kindly omit flowers.

Luke H. Mertz, 62, D&E retiree, taught Sunday school at Akron COB, avid hunter

Luke H. Mertz, 62, of Ephrata, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital.

He was the loving husband of Barbara D. (Hess) Mertz for 32 years, and son of the late John and Mabel (Heiser) Mertz.

Luke was born in Ephrata and graduated from Conestoga Valley High School. He was a longtime D&E Telephone Co. employee, retiring from there in October 2009. He was most recently employed by Worley & Obetz for seven years before officially retiring in April 2016.

He was a Sunday school teacher and deacon at the Akron Church of the Brethren. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. He enjoyed hunting on his friend’s family farm in Pine Grove.

Most importantly, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be deeply missed.

In addition to his wife, Barbara, he is survived by four children: Jason S. Mertz (Melissa) of Elizabethtown; Angela D. Susten (Scott) of Atlanta, Ga.; Caitlyn M. Ackley (Joshua) of Ephrata; and Adam J. Mertz of Ephrata; four grandchildren: Ryder, Hailey, Aidan, and Isabelle; two sisters: Ruth Leed and Mary Pernell; and seven brothers: Jacob, John, James, Paul, Mark, Sam, and Dave Mertz.

In addition to his parents, Luke was preceded in death by a sister: Anna Mertz.

Services were held July 22 at Akron Church of the Brethren, officiated by Pastor Tom Weber. He was interred in Memory Gardens, East Cocalico Township.

Gladys A. Denlinger, 97, El-Mor Chevrolet supporter, Good News Club host, enjoyed traveling

Gladys A. Denlinger, 97, of New Holland, formerly of Morgantown, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, July 21, at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy.

Her husband of 66 years, Harold E. Denlinger, preceded her in death in 2007. Born in Paradise Township, she was the daughter of the late Harry C. and Maude (Bowermaster) Smeltz.

She was a 1938 graduate of the former Paradise High School and was a homemaker throughout her life. However, her dedicated support of her husband helped to make his business, El-Mor Chevrolet in Morgantown, successful.

She grew up at St. Michaels Lutheran Church in Strasburg, and then was an active member of Evangelical United Methodist Church, New Holland, serving many years in the nursery. Her strong interest in children’s evangelism led her to hold Good News Clubs in the backyard of her Morgantown home. She also enjoyed being a member of the Elverson Garden Club, traveling, and sewing.

Surviving are three sons: H. Merle, married to Virginia (Hertzler) Denlinger, Morgantown; Brian E., married to Marilyn (Jones) Denlinger, Morgantown; Gordon R., married to Carolyn (Hastie) Denlinger, Narvon; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son: Bruce A. Denlinger; and a brother: Paul R. Smeltz.

Frances S. ‘Dit’ Jacobs, 82, Ephrata Hospital paramedic, first female mayor of Honey Brook

Frances S. “Dit” Jacobs, 82, of Honey Brook, died June 6, 2017.

She was a lifetime resident of Honey Brook. Dit was well known for her ability to bake and cook absolutely delicious dishes. She was one of the first female firefighters with Honey Brook Volunteer Fire Department and is a Life Member.

Dit served as a paramedic with the medic unit out of Ephrata Hospital. She was the first female mayor of Honey Brook. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family, and loved to share her knowledge of the area with anyone who showed interest.

There will be a remembrance service July 28, at 10 a.m., at the Tel Hai Retirement Center’s Chapel.

Travis S. Hibshman, 46, of Ephrata, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2017.

He was the son of the late Galen R. Hibshman and Joy I. (Miller) Hibshman. Travis is survived by one sister, four brothers, and many adoring nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Travis had a great love for playing ice hockey, and was a very active member of numerous men’s ice hockey leagues in the area. He was a fan of the Montreal Canadiens and the Dallas Cowboys. Travis was also a self-taught guitar virtuoso and could learn new songs by ear. He loved his family and will be greatly missed.

Memorial services were held July 25 at Gravenor Home for Funerals, Ephrata. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Miles S. Martin, 75, of Martindale, died at his home on Monday, July 31, 2017.

He was the husband of Edna W. (Shirk) Martin, whom he shared 53 years of marriage on Oct. 31. Born in East Cocalico Township, he was a son of the late Israel S. and Esther (Shafer) Martin.

He retired in 1997 after working 32 years at New Holland Pipe Plant.

He was a member of Martindale Mennonite Church, Groffdale Conference.

Surviving in addition to his wife are four sons and one daughter: Louis S., married to Mabel (Shirk) Martin, of Canandaigua, N.Y.; Mervin S. Martin and Minerva S. Martin, both of Martindale; Albert S., married to Lois Ann (Brubaker) Martin, of Canandaigua, N.Y.; and Ralph Martin of Martindale; 14 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a sister: Loretta, married to Daniel B. Shirk, of Denver; and six brothers: Larry, married to Kathryn (Gehman) Martin, of Ephrata; Vernon, married to Vera (Fox) Martin, of Ephrata; Murray, married to Mary (Zeiset) Martin, of Lititz; Galen, married to Shirley (Landis) Martin, of Ephrata; Delbert, married to Judy (Felpel) Martin, of Ephrata; and Merion S. Martin of East Earl.

Preceding him in death is a grandson: Jonathan Martin

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Aug. 4, at 9 a.m., at the home of Mark Leid, 1126 Martindale Road, Ephrata, with further services at 9:30 a.m. at the Martindale Mennonite Church, with the Bishop Titus Martin officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Viewing will be held at the Mark Leid home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Kathryn L. Wolfe, 84, EHS grad, Knights of Columbus bookkeeper, enjoyed knitting

Kathryn L. Wolfe, 84, of New Danville Pike, Lancaster, formerly of Ephrata and Manheim, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2017, at Lancashire Hall.

Born in Ephrata, she was the daughter of the late Frank W. Stohler and Elsie (Hood) Stohler. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Wolfe, in 1991.

She was a long-time member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Manheim. She graduated from Ephrata High School. Kathryn enjoyed knitting, cross stitching, playing cards and collecting Longaberger baskets. Kathryn was the bookkeeper for the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 867 on New Danville Pike. There, she helped with the bingo games, resided, and also volunteered.

Kathryn is survived by her four nephews: Robert C. Martin, husband of Shirley, of Cornwall; Richard C. Martin, husband of Susan, of Wilmington Del.; Ronald C. Martin, husband of Staci, of Lothian, Md.; Elmer S. Knier of Manheim; a half-brother: Frank Stohler, husband of Jacqueline, of Shrewsbury; a half-sister: Peggy; and a host of great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son: Ross A. Wolfe, in 1983; and her sister: Ellen Martin, formerly of Lititz.

A graveside service will be held at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, 235 Maple St., Lebanon, on Friday, Aug. 4, at 10 a.m. Those joining the graveside service are asked to meet at the entrance of the cemetery. A memorial service will follow at the Knights of Columbus Council No. 867, 1575 New Danville Pike, Lancaster, at noon. Family will receive guests from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service, and again following the service.

Nancy E. Burkhart, 75, personal caregiver, enjoyed cabin, beach, and motorcycle trips

Nancy E. Burkhart, 75, of Narvon, passed away Monday, July 10, 2017 at Brandywine Hospital.

She was the loving wife of William D. Burkhart, with whom she shared more than 48 years of marriage. Born in Ephrata, she was a daughter of the late David and Ella (Styer) Mast.

Nancy worked as a personal attendant and caregiver. In her spare time she enjoyed going to the cabin in Lycoming County, visiting Cape May, N.J. beaches, and spending time with her grand- and great-grandchildren. She also had the opportunity to travel more than 250,000 miles back and forth across America by motorcycle with her husband. With all the places she had been, she enjoyed returning to her family and the serenity of her own front porch.

In addition to her husband, Nancy is survived by her son: David Means, husband of Margaret, of Narvon; her sister: Louise Hunsberger, wife of Robert, of Mohnton; two granddaughters: Christine Rojahn, wife of Chris, of Narvon; and Melissa Metzler, wife of Josh, of Terre Hill; four great-grandchildren: Connor, David, Adilynn, and Charlotte; and three nieces: Rachel, Becky, and Ellie.

Family and friends visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Eckenroth Home for Funerals, 209 E. Main St., Terre Hill.

Charles H. Frey Jr., 62, former resident, Manheim grad, served in U.S. Army in Germany

Charles H. Frey Jr., 62, of Kittanning, formerly of Ephrata, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, July 16, 2017 at ACMH Hospital.

He was the son of the late Charles H. Frey Sr., and Bernice E. (Miley) Frey.

Charles was a 1973 graduate of Manheim Township High School and served in the U.S. Army in Germany.

He is survived by four sisters: Audrey Fitzgerald and husband, Randy; Bonnie Fisher and husband, Larry; Bernice Stewart; and Cindy Frey.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Richard S. Zimmerman, 42, of Lititz, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2017, at his residence, after a 14-month battle with cancer.

He was born in Ephrata to Marvin and Mabel (Shirk) Zimmerman of Ephrata, and was the loving husband of Christine H. (High) Zimmerman.

Richard was a member of Meadow Valley Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference. He worked as a fabricator for 26 years at Paul B. Zimmerman, Ephrata.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by eight children: Yolanda J., Josiah D., Devon R., Andrew C., Christopher J., Jordan B., Rylan P. and Claudia G. Zimmerman, all at home; two brothers: Gary L., husband of Carol Zimmerman, of Ephrata; Glenn S., husband of Anita Zimmerman, of Stevens; two sisters: Marlene S., wife of Marvin Martin, of Cato, N.Y.; and Rosalie S., wife of Gary Nolt, of Lebanon.

Services were held Aug. 2 at Meadow Valley Mennonite Church, Ephrata, with Bishop Melvin H. Martin officiating. Interment will take place in the adjoining church cemetery. Kindly omit flowers.
