Marilyn J. (Gerber) Hershberger, 84, of Akron, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy.
She was born in Winesburg, Ohio, to the late Clyde and Fannie (Sommers) Gerber and was the wife of the late Paul A. Hershberger who passed away in 2002.
Marilyn was a member of the Forest Hills Mennonite Church where she was involved in a Sunday school class, past president of the Mennonite Women’s Sewing Group, and provided child care for the MOMS group. During her working years, she did housekeeping part-time at the Badorf Shoe Company, Lititz, managed Spector’s Store in Sugarcreek, Ohio, and was the bookkeeper at Charm Cheese Factory, Charm, Ohio, which was owned by her late husband. She enjoyed reading, gardening and spending time with family and friends. She especially enjoyed sports and attending her grandson’s soccer games.
She is survived by a son: Steven Hershberger of Akron; a daughter: Donna, wife of Calvin Roggie of Akron; four grandchildren: Leah Gusler of Lancaster; Laura Haines of Elkhart, Ind.; Emily Roggie of Philadelphia; Christopher Hershberger of Ephrata; and one great-granddaughter.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter: Dora Sue Hershberger; a grandson: Jed; and a brother: Loyal Gerber.
Services were held Jan. 31 at Forest Hills Mennonite Church, Leola, with Pastor Jon Carlson officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in the Akron Mennonite Cemetery.
