David M. Dickson
He was born in Toronto, Canada to the late Dr. John and Josephine (McConnell) Dickson and was the husband of Carol (Edwards) Dickson, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage.
David retired in 1993 from the Philadelphia Eastern PA Conference of the United Methodist Church as a minister. He served in Schuylkill, Northampton, Monroe, Montgomery, Lancaster and Chester Counties. He was a graduate of the University of Maryland and Wesley Seminary. He served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII on the Nantucket Light Ship. David was active in Habitat for Humanity of Lancaster, was a Meals on Wheels and Hospice volunteer. He was a counselor at Camp Innabah and participated in the Appalachian Service Project. He was the son of missionaries and spent time in China, leaving there in the spring of 1941. David was an avid gardener, practicing organic gardening long before it was popular.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Mary, wife of Barry Dissinger of Ephrata; Dianne Dickson, wife of Glenn Danner of Las Vegas, Nev.; David Jr., husband of Barbara Dickson of Myerstown and Dawn Dickson of Lebanon; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and a half-sister: Mary Ray, wife of Dr. Marshall Evans of Stewart, Fla.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepmother: Rachel Newton Dickson; a brother and three sisters.
A memorial service will take place April 26 at 2 p.m. at the Zerr Chapel, Cornwall Manor.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in David’s name to either Habitat for Humanity or a local food bank.
