Deaths of Local Interest – Dec. 25, 2019

Rose Marie Hershey, 63, of Manheim, passed away peacefully Dec. 15 at Lancaster General Hospital. Rose owned and operated Shades of Rose in Manheim. She was a member of St. Richard’s Catholic Church, Manheim. Her interests included crocheting, reading, flower gardening, and scrapbooking. Her passion in life was her family, and she loved to organize family reunions. Her daughter, Kathleen, wife of Shaun Kaley, resides in Reinholds.

Joseph W. Leisner, 80, of Brecknock Township, passed away Dec. 15 at the Reading Hospital. He was a proud U.S. Marine veteran. Joseph was a police officer, serving the Philadelphia area for 25 years. He was a member of St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church, Mohnton. Joseph was a warm, caring, selfless person who loved his family, especially his grandsons, and will be sincerely missed by all. A daughter, Deborah A., wife of Keith R. Bortz, resides in Denver.

Alan D. Rothacker, of Lititz, was welcomed into the hands of the Lord on Dec. 17. He was a proud Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marines and much of his life was shaped by the Corps. He used his machine skills in industry, developing prototypes for high-resolution aeronautical reconnaissance photography and then miniaturization of invasive medical monitoring devices. Al was a trombone player who enjoyed the music and the camaraderie of the Moonlighters Big Band and the Lititz Community Band. He was active giving and getting care from his church community at Washington Avenue Bible Church in Ephrata.
