Richard Ronald Reich, 82, D & E retiree, former Akron Fire chief, enjoyed outdoors, horse racing

Richard Ronald Reich, 82, of Akron, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2019, at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital.

He was born in Lancaster to the late Walter and Margie (Charles) Reich, and was the husband of the late Delores “Dee” J. Reich, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage with before her passing in 2017.

He was a member of Mount Zion UM Church, Akron. Richard worked for D & E Telephone until he retired and previously for Miller-Hess Shoe Co. for 31 years. He was a lifetime member of the Akron Volunteer Fire Co. and served as chief from 1964 until 1975. He enjoyed hunting at Camp Green Leaf, Potter County, fishing, and playing bingo. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and horse racing.

Richard is survived by a daughter: Wanda Jean Reich, wife of Ronald R. Smith Jr. of Akron; a granddaughter: Holly, wife of Brian Binimow of Akron; a great-granddaughter: Faith Binimow; and a grand-dog: Ginger.

Services were held March 23 at Stradling Funeral Home, Akron, with Pastor Roger Hornberger officiating. Interment took place in the Mt. Zion Evangelical Cemetery.

The family would like to thank both the staff at Gardens of Stevens nursing home as well as WellSpan Ephrata Hospital emergency room staff.
