Robert “Jim” Sweigart, 69, of Ephrata, passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at Lebanon VA Medical Center Hospice Unit.
He was born in Ephrata to the late Robert and Mildred (Carles) Sweigart, and was the husband of L. Darlene (Miller) Sweigart, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage.
Jim was a crew leader for Ephrata Borough before retiring in 2010. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving two tours in Vietnam. He was a member of the Cocalico Sportsman’s Association; Ephrata AmVets Post #136; and Conestoga Post #662, American Legion. He was also a lifetime member of Cocalico Post #3376 V.F.W. and VVA Chapter #1008, Lancaster; and a volunteer for Pioneer Fire Company Fire Police.
In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by two sons: Bobby, husband of Grace (Copenhaver) Sweigart of Ephrata; Chad T., husband of Melissa (Young) Sweigart of Reinholds; two grandsons: Robby and Richard; two sisters: Sandy Stoner, companion of George Bollinger of Ephrata; and Gail, wife of Alton Lorah of Denver.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Paul Robert Sweigart; and a sister: Joanne Sheetz.
Services were held June 4 at Stradling Funeral Home, Ephrata, with Rev. Jeffrey Goodman officiating. Interment will take place in the Brownstown Cemetery with military honors accorded but the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard.
