Belle H. Peters, 88, of Ephrata, passed away on Monday, May 21, 2018 at Ephrata Manor.
She was born in Bigler, daughter of the late Lawrence and Alice Hynd. She graduated from Clearfield High School in Clearfield in 1947 and in 1953 became the loving wife of the late Calvin Peters, who passed away in 2000.
Belle retired from the Landis Valley Museum in 2003 and was previously employed at the former Hunt Motors of Ephrata, PA. Over the years, she also held secretarial and clerical positions in the insurance and banking industries.
A member of Hope United Methodist Church in Ephrata, she had many interests and loved to travel. Among her best memories was traveling to England to visit with dear family friends, the Powell, Daly, and Taylor families of England. Belle was very proud of her Scottish heritage.
She is survived by two children: Larry Peters and Carol Peters, both of Ephrata; seven siblings: Margaret (John) Morris of Stuart, Fla.; Alice Jean (Elwood) Stone of Salem, Ohio; Jesse Good of White Deer; Christine Hamer of Millbury, Mass.; Katherine (Glenn) Wilkes of Webster, N.Y.; William Hynd of Punxsutawney; and Thomas (Jackie) Hynd of Summerville, S.C.; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Belle was preceded in death by her sister: Rachel Mary.
The family would like to thank all of those who cared for Belle at Ephrata Manor for their devotion, compassion, and quality of care they provided to her around the clock. They also want to thank Dr. James Elia and the staff at WellSpan Family Medicine – Granite Run, Dr. Scott Silverstein, and Dr. Timothy Martin for their years of providing their mother with exceptional medical care.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, at Gravenor Home for Funerals, 100 W. Main St., Ephrata, with the Rev. James C. Bongard officiating. The family will receive friends before the service, from 9 to 11 a.m.
