Deaths of Local Interest – Feb. 7, 2018

Alberta Pauline Ingham, 85, of Mount Hope Nazarene Retirement Community, Manheim, passed away Jan. 29. Alberta was a devoted homemaker, an avid sewer, knitter, cook, baker, crossing guard, hostess, Sunday School teacher, prayer warrior, choir member and soloist with a beautiful soprano voice, and a singer in the Billy Graham Crusade Choir. Her daughter, Patricia Anne Adams, lives in Akron.

Robert E. “Bob” Long, 83, of Hellam, died Jan. 31 at M.S. Hershey Medical Center. Bob worked for the York Dispatch for 44 years, retiring as the composing room manager in 1995. Bob was also an active member at St. James Lutheran Church, Hellam, for 50 years, and the Hawks Gunning Club. He was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis (MG) in 1998 and helped to establish a support group. A daughter, Suzanne M. Williams and her husband David, live in Ephrata.

A. Jolene Moyer, 75, of Lancaster, passed away Jan. 31 at the Mount Joy Hospice Center. She was a member of Grace Point Church of Paradise. In the 1960s, she worked in the office of Klein Chocolate Company in Elizabethtown. Later she was active in the family business, Gro-Mor Plant Food Co., Inc., Leola. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, and traveling. Her grandsons, Brett and Tye Moyer, live in East Earl.

Annie L. Rice, 74, of Marietta passed away Jan. 31. She worked for Donegal Industries for 31 years before her retirement. She loved outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, camping, boating, and visiting Perry County. She also enjoyed car shows, motorcycle rides, and visiting casinos. She always took care of everyone else first. A son, Jerry Rice Jr., and two granddaughters, Kimberly Anne and Crystalyn Rice, live in Ephrata.

Esther H. Shirk, 78, of Narvon, died Feb. 3 at her home. She was married 57 years to Paul M. Shirk. Esther was a homemaker and a member of the Churchtown Mennonite Church, Groffdale Conference. A sister, Edna, married to Aaron Zimmerman, lives in Denver. A sister, Arlene, married to Aaron Sensenig, resides in East Earl. Sisters, Minnie, married to John Snyder, and Ella, married to Melvin Martin, live in Ephrata. Also living in Ephrata is a sister-in-law, Rebecca Nolt.
