Robert E. ‘Pop’ Hoffman, 85, Korea vet, house painter, independent, enjoyed Bible study

Robert E. “Pop” Hoffman, 85, of Ephrata, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Almeda (Meck) and Paul G. Hoffman.

Pop was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was stationed in Japan for 32 months during the Korean War and served in the National Guard for three years. He was a self-employed as a house painter for most of his life.

Pop enjoyed studying the Bible. He loved to take his granddaughters out to eat, and solve crossword puzzles. His family will miss his loving and independent personality.

In addition to his beloved wife of 62 years, Shirley (Getz); Pop is survived by his children: Stevin L. Hoffman (Beverly) of Ephrata; and Douglas E. Hoffman (Lorraine) of Vermont; his grandchildren: Angela, Joy, Katrina, Tessa, and Promise; five great-grandchildren: Alivia Faith, Evelynn, Eden, Elijah, and Asher.

He is also preceded in death by his brother: Paul Hoffman.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Sept. 29, at 6 p.m., at the Ephrata Community Church, 70 Clay School Road, Ephrata. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
