Charles W. Boehringer, 90, WWII vet, long-time salesman, Adamstown VFW charter member

Charles W. Boehringer, 90, formerly of Adamstown, died Jan. 18, 2017, in Phoebe Berks Health Care Center, Wernersville, where he resided five years.

Born in Adamstown, he was a son of the late John E. and Mary J. (Redcay) Boehringer Sr. His wife, Arlene M. (Demming) Boehringer, died Sept. 29, 2007.

A 1944 Shillington High School graduate, Charles served in the Army during World War II, and was a charter member of Adamstown VFW Post No. 8795. A long-time salesman, he was a director of sales for several central Pennsylvania companies. As a community volunteer, he served as president of the Gov. Mifflin School Board; member of Gov. Mifflin School Authority; St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Council; Cedar Grove Cemetery Board; Friends of Adamstown Area Library Board; and secretary of Brecknock Township, Berks County.

Charlie was an active Lion, having served as president for both Adamstown and Shillington Lions Clubs, past deputy district governor of District 14-D, and received the prestigious Melvin Jones Award for service. Cars were a passion of Charlie’s. In the 1990s, he showed his restored 1964 Corvair in local auto shows as a member of Pottstown Area Corvair Enthusiasts.

Surviving are his daughters: Donna M. (Michael S.) Zaun, Adamstown; Kathy A. (John E.) Marshall, Savannah, Ga.; a son: C. Shawn Boehringer, Baltimore, Md.; six grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

A brother, John Boehringer Jr., predeceased him.

Graveside services were held Jan. 21 at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Adamstown, with a memorial service at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with Rev. Sandy Gideon officiating.
