Betty Louise Andrews (Howe), born in Downingtown, passed away May 23, 2016, from heart failure at the age of 92. Betty’s last residence was Warrenton, Va., where she resided with her daughter, Pat and son-in-law Don.
She was the daughter of Minnie Luella Howe (Hollinger) of Lititz/Churchtown, and William Norman Howe of Christiana. She was married to Bruce Thomas Andrews Jr. for more than 50 years.
Betty graduated from the school of nursing in Wilmington, Del., as a registered nurse after attending a year at Westchester State College. She worked as a private duty nurse then Muhlenberg Hospital in South Plainfield, N.J.; the VA Hospital in Basking Ridge; and then was owner of Conestoga Valley Antiques Shop in East Earl. She and her husband moved to New Holland, and upon his death, she built a home in Lebanon Township, N.J., with her daughter.
Betty enjoyed cooking, entertaining friends and family, reading, sewing, gardening, upholstery and caning chairs. She loved adventure, and went on a hot air balloon, glider, two-man helicopter, and on her 90th birthday, went hang-gliding. She was an avid traveler going all over Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Tasmania and the U.S.
She is survived by a son: Bruce T. Andrews III of Australia; and daughter: Patricia L. Loock (Andrews); four grandchildren: two in Australia: Bruce T. Andrews IV and Melanie (Andrews) Wratten; Monica (Loock) Wright of Maryland; and Donald D. Loock Jr. of Virginia; eight great-grandchildren:, Samantha Wright, Jessica Wright, David and Andrew Loock, Lachlain and Oliver Andrews and Matilda and Benjamin Wratten.
Betty was a fantastic mother, a devoted spouse and a wonderful grandparent. She embraced life with a positive attitude and an infectious laugh. Everyone’s lives that she touched will miss her but will be left with wonderful memories.
A celebration of life party will be scheduled for the end of the summer.
