Deaths of Local Interest – Nov. 11, 2015

Winfred James Campbell, 10, of Arcadia, Fla., went to be with Jesus Nov. 3. He attended the Peace River Mennonite Church. His paternal stepgreat-grandmother, Reba Sensenig; and maternal great-grandfather, David Hostetter, live in Ephrata.

Vion V. Glanze, Brownstown, 87, transitioned into eternal rest Oct. 26. A career executive legal assistant and office manager, she enjoyed tennis both as an avid player and spectator, and pursued carpentry and automobile mechanics as hobbies. She is survived by three children: Maurice Eric (Ricky) Starks, Peggy Ann Starks, Dennis Jeffery Starks; a devoted sister: Veleta D’Santiago; nieces; and a host of grandchildren.

Luretta A. Goodling, 67, of Duncannon, passed away Oct. 31 in her home. She worked as a licensed beautician in her mother’s salon and occasionally for Ronald C.L. Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon. Luretta opened her home and heart to all, and was always ready to lend a helping hand. She will be sorely missed by those that love her, and those she loved. Her daughter, Tina (Bryan) Snader, lives in Denver.

Bruce L. Kofroth, 83, of Lancaster, died after a nine-month battle with cancer Nov. 6. Bruce worked more than 20 years in the machine shop at High Steel. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was an avid Penn State fan, and attended many bowl games. His daughter, Cynthia, married to William Portner Jr., lives in Ephrata.

Carissa Dawn Weaver, 8, of Harrisonville, passed away Nov. 3 at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She was born with one-half of a heart but lived life to the fullest. She was the beloved daughter of Curvin S. and Sharon S. Weaver. Carissa loved and was loved by her church family at Grace Haven Mennonite Church in Lemasters. Her paternal great-grandfather, Raymond Weaver, lives in Ephrata.

John Wolf Wissler, 87, of Millway, Warwick Township, died Nov. 5 at Ephrata Community Hospital. He served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant with the 1167 Wire OPN Company 304th Signal Battalion during the Korea War. Next, John worked as an accountant for Irl Daffin Inc., Lancaster, and finally as controller of Jerome H. Rhoads Inc., Lancaster. John was a godly man and a longtime member of Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rothsville. His brother, Levi W. Wissler, husband of Ruth, lives in Ephrata.

John Benjamin (Ben) Witter, 51, of Myerstown, died Nov. 5. A PGA Pro and trick shot/power golf entertainer, Ben was the long-time golf pro at Fox Chase Golf Club, Stevens. He was sustained and empowered by the army of friends, family, colleagues, and well-wishers whose prayers and support enabled him to remain resolute and gracious despite living for 30 years with multiple cancers. Ironically it was this very circumstance that brought him into the powerful presence of all the people who watched his shows, heard him speak, and shared his passion.
