Rev. Melvin H. Stehr, 92, New Holland, died July 14, 2015, in Lancaster General Hospital.
Born in Pitman, Schuylkill County, a son of the late Henry R. and Kathryn Elizabeth (Morgan) Stehr, he was married 69 years to Sadie E. (Wolfgang) Stehr.
A 1941 Hegins High School graduate, he studied at Evangelical Congregational Church Seminary, Myerstown, from 1953 to 1956. He served the E.C. churches of Barry (Ashland); Pequea-Mt. Airy; Creswell-Conestoga; St. Paul’s (Reamstown); Immanuel (Adamstown); and Zeltenreich UCC (New Holland); and was pastor emeritus of Pequea E.C. Church. Stehr was the chaplain of New Holland Lions Club and various hospitals and nursing homes, an avid speaker and lecturer, member of the Columbia Watch and Clock Association, and a coin and pocket watch enthusiast.
Also surviving are his daughters: Carol A. (Rev. Lonnie) Sellers, Terre Hill; twins, Lois M. (Myron) Weber, Denver; Linda (Kirk) Copenhaver, Ephrata; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister: Ruby (William) Miller, Lititz.
A brother, Kenneth, predeceased him.
Funeral services were held July 17 at St. Paul’s E. C. Church, Reamstown, with Rev. Gordon Lewis officiating. He was interred July 18 in Zion E.C. Cemetery, Pitman.
